suspicions whenever mentioned. Even the biggest pop names do half of their
gigs and have half of their income just performing well-known songs and
impersonating well-known international artists. But when the vocals of Bon
Ivers >Re: Stacks< recorded by up and coming British singer songwriter
James Barbarossa Mathe were sent their way they didnt have a slightest doubt.
Not an obvious track selection and a really unique vocal treatment inspired
them for a cover version of a different kind. As yet another proof of
superior quality the release comes with a remix from Âme. Vinyl only and
limited to 300 copies this one is a little bit special |

Atlanta-based
producer Sejva joins TAU for his debut release, Black Lipstick. With releases
on Diynamic and Nervous, among others, he’s al- ready established himself as
a remarkable talent who fuses retro elements with a future-facing sound to
cultivate a style that is all his own. On Black Lipstick we get four slices
of Sejva funk, each of which presents a different side to the artist,
demonstrating his dexterity and diversity... The EP opens up with ‘The
Midnight Bells’, a track that is buzzing with vibrancy from the first few
notes. Sejva immerses us in entrancing synth lines and a grizzly bassline,
with punchy beats and an all round ecstatic atmosphere. By the time we reach
the breakdown it’s time to really get loose. Title track ‘Black Lipstick’ feels
as though it’s been transported to the future from the 1980s. A new
wave-esque vocal and jaunty production encapsulates a feeling of years gone
by, while maintaining the polish of contemporary production levels.
Guaranteed to send the dance floor into a state of euphoria and positivity,
this is a peak time cut that showcases Sejva’s unique talent. ‘Two
Heartbeats’ features more vintage drum machine and synth work, with a shift
in mood, taking things a little bit more downbeat. More mesmerising vocals
give this track its distinct character, and we’re treated to a wonderfully
energetic and captivating piece of music. Finally, ‘Don’t Tell Me’ ends
things on a high, with big room vibes and a melancholy, romantic vocal. Sejva
closes his EP with a track that offers a transcendent experience to the
listener, an electronic synthony of machine-created melody and rhythm that
merges the past with the future to great effect |

On
23 February 2024 wildly creative free-form L.A. singer-songwriter and multi
instrumentalist Laena Myers is set to release her highly anticipated debut
solo album, ‘LUV (Songs Of Yesterday)’. Released on Taxi Gauche Records, the
11-track collection is the first to feature the genre-spanning composer,
in-demand session player/singer and classically trained violinist putting her
own name to her recordings. Formerly known as Laena Geronimo and L.M.I. /
Laena Myers-Ionita, Laena is perhaps best known as lead singer, songwriter
and guitarist of critically-acclaimed and internationally touring rockers
FEELS, but that is only the tip of the iceberg. She’s also known for her time
as bassist for goth-punk band Numb.er as well as the Motown-inspired pop
outfit The Like, and as the go-to-violinist for a myriad of artists from the
L.A. music scene and beyond - contributing to released recordings by John
Frusciante, Jhene´ Aiko, Ty Segall, Shannon Lay and The Allah Las to name a
few. Describing herself as “An awkward, shy kid who played in the Jr.
Philharmonic Orchestra of California and wore headphones blasting NIN, The
Velvet Underground and Sonic Youth all the time”, Laena cut her teeth in a
busking band, performing purely improvised material on street corners in
Hollywood and spent the entirety of her young adulthood as a supporting
player in countless L.A. bands - at times as many as five simultaneously,
while working full time and sleeping in her car during lunch breaks. Inspired
as much by the soft weight of Hope Sandoval and Patsy Cline’s dramatic
powers, Patti Smith’s poetic punk and Nico’s avant-garde musings as she is by
contemporaries like Angel Olsen, Aldous Harding and Cate LeBon, her musical
roots run deep. She is the daughter of American drummer Alan Myers (DEVO,
Skyline Electric, Jean Paul Yamamoto) and Romanian singer/songwriter and
visual artist Greta Ionita (Babooshka). As a solo artist, Laena's punk
background of guitar-based songwriting and swagger merges with her innovative
classical/experimental roots and love for singing ballads, and this is shown
throughout ‘LUV (Songs Of Yesterday’), leading to a depth of emotion that
cuts to the heart of even the most hardened, revealing a more tender side to
her vocal and lyrical prowess over lush string arrangements. The album’s
opening track ‘LUV’, with it’s only lyrics “When I say I’m in love you best
believe I mean love L.U.V.” is a nod to The Shangri-Las and New York Dolls,
and was used to evocatively soundtrack fashion brand CELINE’s Spring 2020
campaign. “Half the songs on the album are about relationships in which I
thought I was in love - true love - but it turned out to be something else”,
Laena explains, “so ‘LUV (Songs of Yesterday)’ seemed a fitting title:
sounded like love, looked like love, but it wasn’t real love.” “The
overarching theme of the album is strength in vulnerability” |

Deep and hypnotic. That pretty
much sums up the new Nacreous-EP by Shoal on the Dutch imprint NOWHERE. The
title refers to a certain glow or color that mother-of-pearl radiates. Shoal
is the alter ego of Utrecht-resident Kenny Dean Kneefel. When you have a name
that sounds like a famous stuntman, you are probably prepared to take more
risks. And indeed that's exactly what this producer from the lowlands does on
Nacreous. Shoal's four track EP combines hallucinant grooves with delicate
sound design. Like on Bygone Drums, where ominous distant sounds from a
nearby factory creep between the shadows. The same can be said of the title
track, a tribalistic tune with a delicate dark undertone. Never Endings is
more uplifting, with its dubbed out basslines and crispy hi-hats. Dubtechno
that reminds us of both Monolake and Fluxion. Closing track Morning Float is
indeed that, a trip in a blue tank filled with warm water, where you are
comforted by beautiful strings and sounds of nature.? |

and Speedy J cement their Multiples collaborative project with a long-form
album of tweaked experiments past the outer reaches of the techno realm.
Recorded over the course of two days at Speedy J's STOOR lab in Rotterdam, Two
Hours Or Something is what happens when decades-deep experts in the field
plug their hardware in and jam without time constraints or crowd
expectations. In these raw, one-take, no-edit sessions there are propulsive
moments of techno and electro balanced out by extended beatless passages and
a constant experimental instinct which drives the music forward into parts
unknown. Following a string of knockout club and festival appearances, this
is a fitting document of just how far out Multiples can go when you combine
two such experienced and inquisitive minds (and their respective gear). The

Miaux presents her new album, 'Never Coming Back’ on VIERNULVIER Records. The
record is rooted in the recent film score she composed for the surreal and
haunted cult movie 'Carnival of Souls' (1962). Directed by American filmmaker
Herk Harvey, this enigmatic ghost film influenced contemporary directors like
David Lynch, George A. Romero, and Lucrecia Martel. Miaux meticulously
crafted the score in her home studio, relying solely on her two hands and a
single synthesizer during the spring and summer of 2022. The inaugural
performance of this renewed score with film, unfolded at Videodroom / Film
Fest Gent 2022 in Ghent, Belgium. The compositions were subsequently
unraveled, rewritten into full-fledged songs, and assembled into a new record
entitled 'Never Coming Back’, bearing Miaux’s unmistakable signature. The
album is scheduled for release on May 3 and will be available on vinyl LP and
all digital platforms. Miaux will perform the album live at Roadburn Festival
(NL), offering a pure interpretation of the new songs. Additionally, there
are shows planned a STUK (Leuven) and Palmarium (Ghent), where she will

The Black Hole "Black Hole". A black hole is a celestial object
whose gravity is so strong that no information leaks out, so it was
impossible to observe it, and it was only a theoretical existence, but its
location was identified for the first time in 2011. The latest research shows
that it rotates on its own axis. Black holes are physically contradictory
entities that are difficult to imagine, but what Jeff Mills is trying to deal
with in ``The Trip'' also overlaps with singularity, which is the beginning
or possible end of time and space. Displayed in 5 theoretical scenarios of
what could happen after entering through the Black Hole and exiting on the
other side. Special guest: Jun Togawa. The provocative vocalist artist Jun
Togawa was invited to participate by Jeff Mills as one of the highlights for
this project. Among many talents such as acting and modeling, she is a
trailblazing artist representing Japanese new wave, and her emotional songs
have an unparalleled impact and continue to break down generational barriers.
She is one of the greatest influences on Japanese avant-garde music and
media, and her career spans over 35 years. Jeff Mills, fascinated by Jun's
unique way of singingas well as a commanding stage presence, approached her
through the right channels and by the evening of the same day, Jun Togawa
agreed and the lyrics had been written. The recording sessions of the collaborated
songs which were conducted remotely between their locations in Japan and the
US, went smoothly. Two songs are: "Contradiction" and
"Hole." For both songs, Jun added the vocals to the rhythm
originally composed by Jeff Mills, and the final synth pad added by Shinichi
Yamaguchi was edited by Jeff Mills. On "Contradiction" (Long Radio
Mix), he wanted to include a guitar similar to the style of rock and roll
legend Bo Diddley, which is masterfully played by Kazuhide Yamaji of the
current Yapoos |

original Lennon/McCartney compositions which not many people have heard
before. All the performaces here were recorded during the January 1969
sessions and were concidered not good enough for the 'Let It Be' and the
'Abbey Road' albums. 1st generation tapes. The first track which spreads all
over side 1 is a fine example of how the Beatles could work together,
exploring new ideas as this Lennon original devolpes into a jam session
around the line of 'I told you before, get out of my door'. In the middle of
this track you can hear John discussing accord changes with George while Paul
sings this line as a rugh guide. Ringo is in his best form here, you've never
heard him using sticks before like that! It's imortant to indicate that this
song is NOT 'I found Out' from Lennon's Plastic Ono Band" album of 1970.
The opener of side 2, is a also a Lennon track, the longest version ever to
appear, a track that could do well along 'Mean Mr. Mustared' and such.
Closing the album are two long McCartney Tracks. Fast rockers in the 'Helter
Skelter'/I'm Down' tradition. The last one could not appear on any Beatles

with The Sound Of The Sun EP. Draped in timeless sounds throughout, the EP
opens with the unmistakable birdsong of the early hours atop a deep, chugging
rhythm. The hypnotic minimalism of "Dawn Of A New Day" is sustained
with floating key chords, before an unexpected turn at the halfway point
blooms into thrumming synths, handclaps and murmurs. "The Sound Of The
Sun" captures and keeps rich golden beams, guiding them to refract and
resonate against glassy percussion and an urgent tech-infused beat. Distorted
acoustic notes are stretched and warped, adding noirish desert tones in
contrast to rising fever-pitch cymbals. "Time Of Light" then
charges into view, raising the heat with peaktime energy as insect sounds are
looped and transformed into a pulsing accompaniment. Bringing things to a
steamy conclusion, "Baba Himalaya" borrows from tribal traditions
to pay tribute to cross-cultural sounds, pulled forward by sweeping vocal
solos and harmonic choruses |

who cut her chops as a DJ in San Francisco™s vibrant scene the past decade.
In 2016 she made the move to Berlin and became a resident of Room 4
Resistance. Since 2013, she's been the co-owner of Jacktone Records, which
specializes in techno, ambient, and experimental electronics. In 2016/2017
she released her first 12's on the Hot Mass-affiliated Detour Records and
Bottom Forty. She also co-wrote a track with Bezier and Nicole Ginelli,
titled šStranger,› that we released on the ˜Primes™ EP in 2017. Her latest
release, ˜Your Ruling Planet™, was released on Jacktone in March 2019. We
first heard šCreme Fraiche› on Doc™s soundcloud page and begged to release
it. The track has the feel-good vibes you get on early morning dancefloors as
things are winding down or up. Paired on the A-side is the pulsating dark jam
šNever Eating Again› that previously appeared on ˜Run The Length Of Your
Wildness V.2™ and, like that compilation, proceeds from this track will be
donated to Ghost Ship Fire victim Cherushii's family. On the B-side are two
remixes from close friends of Doc. First up is a fresh breakbeat remix from
Violet: DJ, producer, boss of Naive records, co-founder of Rádio Quântica,
and mina resident shaking up Lisbon's nightlife. Second is Berlin-based
producer and fellow R4R resident, rRoxymore, who presents an innovative remix
of future-facing techno and bass variations adding her own vocals on top. For
this release we™ve teamed up with Jacktone to release a cassette version, our
first in this format, featuring two peak-time bonus tracks. All songs have

internet supergroup Drugface is going public, unmasking themselves as Multi
Culti audiovisionary Thomas Von Party and Montreal cult legend John Shape,
who absorbed the life rights to the Beaver Sheppard Story in an online game
of Russian Roulette. If you’re reading this, the Von Party element probably
makes so much sense that you’ll never forgive yourself for not realizing it
sooner. The vibes, the production; it was there the whole time. Eagleeared
listeners may have ID’d Shape from his Ricardo Villalobos-produced remix pack
on Sei Es Drum, or as the singer in German instrumental band Brandt Brauer
Frick. Those who guessed both members are now on some kind of list. “In the Clouds” is the latest single
from the secretly prolific duo, a synaesthetic window into a realm where
everything tastes like data and everything sounds like mushrooms. Bside “On
the Prowl” is a collaboration with Multi Culti vitamin-shaman Dreems, with
the results entrusted to Finnish synth-lord Jori Hulkkonen to ensure
everything holds up 9,000 years from now. For the remixes, Simple Symmetry
pull you through a wormhole to the sunny beaches of Moscow, The Beat Escape
add massive doses of class and elegance. We tested these descriptions on 50
tastemaker chimps, and all 50 were still at least “somewhat jazzed” about
hearing the tracks anyway. And of course it goes without saying that Multi

by the Cogo protagonist Tonske, Anatman is a work of depth, intensity and a
great attention to detail. Defined as well-formed, knowledgeable character
with a strong artistic and technical background, Tonske produced a powerful,
future oriented techno with atmospheric inserts. The release is also rounded
with two remixes by well known techno pillars. Most known for his work in the
famous Cassegrain project, Magna Pia is a composer, producer and a DJ whos
combative dance floor trips are ripping through underground scene for some
time now. He left his mark on variety of labels such as Infrastructure NY,
Prologue, Killekill, Ostgut Ton, Counterchange and Semantica. His interest in
combining contemporary techno music with archaic symbolism and unorthodox
sonic nmoods with subtle 90s techno references is making him a true gem of
the scene today. Co-founder of the infamous Traum nights in Croatia and
Secession label boss, Volster is also a well established protagonist in
techno circles. Somewhat mysterious, this broad but no nonsense techno artist
is most known for his hypnotic, spiral and somewhat detroit sound which
earned him an impressive list of feedback till this day. After two decades of
continuous work and dedication, he is pawing his mark further with
collaborations with names like Cassegrain, Aubrey and Anthony Linell and gigs

The
Flying Dagger is Cressida's first release on Shaw Cuts, which deals with
themes of greed, revenge, honor, chivalry and the internal struggle between
good and evil that exists within all of us. Yu Ying happens upon the scene of
an atrocity and double murder. She outrageously kills the perpetrator, who is
the son of the infamous Green Dragon Clan boss Jiao Lei. The broken rhythm
and heavy hitting drums of "Cat's Claw" shine a light on the
shocking act of violence. Upon learning the surprising news, Jiao Lei
proclaims war on her and attacks Yu Yingo's father Yu Yuan who manages to
escape with his children although he gets severely injured. The pounding
drums of "Radiate" and its thrilling ambiance boosts up the
families energy and keeps everybody safe. The pursuit is on and Jian Lei is
hell-bent on killing them all, preferentially with his throwing knifes.
However, he is thwarted in his plans by the emergence of the mysterious
stranger Yang Qing whose ability to throw projectiles rivals that of Jiao
Lei. "Medusa" and its percussive lunacy paired with unexpected
groove twists guide our hero through times of many tough challenges and evil
encounters. Chief Jiao tries to tempt Yang Qing with money to join his Green
Dragon Clan, but our hero cannot be bought. With the help of the furious
"Do I Stay" and its steamroll drum pattern, pushing bassline and
raw atmosphere, he comes to the rescue of several victims of the Green Dragon
Clan instead. Yang Qing uses his martial proficiency to fight on the side of
society, but is he strong enough for the rousing finale? The bass-heavy vibe
of "Let the Devil In" and its swirling vocal cuts blended with
funky breaks and warm pads, send out one more energy before everything is

resident of Berlin's long-running Gegen, a multifaceted queer techno and
performance art event, Samantha Togni has seen her profile rising with
appearances on Mixmag's Lab series in London and a heavy release schedule on
established and upcoming labels: Stay Up Forever, Noise Manifesto, her own
Boudica, and others, quickly accumulating a significant discography since her
2019 debut. Her latest is the Lunaversal EP on Rant & Rave, representing
another edgy release from upcoming female techno talent. It leads off with
the title track, not exactly as cosmic as implied with buried, indecipherable
vocals and buzzsaw synth riffs seesawing between intermittent breakdowns
which only serve to increase tension 'Minor Goddess' takes an old school rave
approach with abrasive, rising stabs and dissected vocals against a hammering
framework of kicks and crushing bass pressure. With its lilting ambient
chopped vocal samples slightly counterbalancing the surging forward motion of
the rhythm, 'Pit of Truth' hits deeper, but the pit in the title obviously
leans more towards dungeon or grave. 'Jesters Have a Heart Too' rubs unstable
synth sweeps against blasts of industrial noise and jackhammer percussion,
reaching peak intensity in its brutally chopped final run |

Albino Sound concocts textual
delights in shades of metal on his forthcoming EP for Turnend Tapes. The
‘Metallurgy’ EP forthcoming on Turnend Tapes sees Japanese artist Hirotaka
Umetani transmit four club orientated tracks through a UK bass lens, delineating
from past musical excursions and so marking a turning point of his works.
Indicative of this shift is the vast and varied sources of inspiration
Hirotaka has tapped into in creating ‘Metallurgy’. Translating visual into
sound through Hirotaka’s own experience, bare witness to granular detail made
macro through swathes of sound design kinetically akin to the flurry of
mineral-rich hot water springs, seething in chemical harmony. Entwining
impressions of the past with forecasts of the future Hirotaka deftly connects
the dots between the sounds stemming from the alchemy of metal and it’s
interplay with the natural environment as we proceed ever closer to
organic-synthetic assimilation |

Dostrotime is Squarepusher-style
fun. Heavy, intense, tear out experimental electronic music for the sheer
exhilaration of it. Unapologetically, one for the Squarepunter Massive! In
early 2020, Squarepusher had just released Be Up A Hello to huge acclaim, and
was gearing up for a worldwide tour featuring some of his biggest shows to
date. Then the pandemic hit, and it was all off... Devoid of distractions,
naturally the artist headed to the studio to begin recording. He says that “
[...] Without customary interruptions, time elapsed differently”. It’s an
episode he’s dubbed “Dostrotime”. As such, Dostrotime is an attempt to
capture the peculiarity of music catalysed by lockdown being part of the
celebration of lockdown’s demise |

The late foundation deejay U-Roy
recorded The Seven Gold at Michael Carroll's Creative Sounds Studio in
Kingston (with assistance from engineer, and singer & producer in his own
right, Paul Davidson) for Prince Jazzbo's Ujama imprint - with the LP then
seeing the light of day on the label in 1987, and now a reissue on Death Is
Not The End sub-label 333. It features the late, great Ewart Beckford
appearing on a range of killer Jazzbo-produced late-80s digitap rhythms -
from the inspired Replay version on 'Holo Gow', to the updated digital take
on the Heavenless rhythm on 'Jah Jah Call You' and his take on Horace
Ferguson's Sensi Addict in 'Musikal Addick'. The bulk of these rhythm tracks
were performed by revered multi-instrumentalist Tyrone Downie (a long-time
member of Bob Marley & The Wailers since the mid 70s) alongside Tony
"Asher" Brissett - another massively undersung session musician
perhaps most notable for laying down the initial Sleng Teng rhythm track for
Jammys in 1984 |

Mambo International a 12-piece UK ensemble play classic salsa, mambo and cha
cha cha inspired by Latin music legends like Tito Puente, Machito, Eddie
Palmieri, Ray Barretto, Tito Rodriguez and the Fania All-Stars. Featuring
musicians from Venezuela, Colombia, Cuba, Spain and the UK who are based in
the north of England and have played with salsa, jazz, funk and soul artists
such as Joe Bataan, Tito Allen, The New Mastersounds, Oscar D'Leon, Matthew
Halsall, Snowboy & The Latin Section, Bobby Matos, Larry Harlow, Dave
Valentin, Grupo X, Salsa Celtica and The Haggis Horns. Formed in 2022,
Orchestra Mambo International have gigged regularly across the UK performing
music from the Fania Records catalogue as well as their much loved "Mambo
King: A Musical Tribute To Tito Puente" set. They have appeared live at
such prestigious venues as the Blues Kitchen (Manchester), The Forge Camden
(London), The Piece Hall (Halifax), Band On The Wall (Manchester), and Leeds
venues Howard Assembly Room and Brudenell Social Club. "Mambo Te
Llama" is an uptempo Latin dance track inspired by legendary New York
Puerto Rican band leader/percussionist Tito Puente. The mambo genre evolved
in 1930s Cuba and spread to Mexico and New York in the 1940s via expat Cuban
musicians such as Perez Prado and Mario Bauza. By the mid-1950s, the mambo
music and dance craze had swept the world. The epicentre was New York and
it's king was Tito Puente. Orchestra Mambo International keeps the flame
alive for mambo with this fiery new single, a combination of punchy brass and
Afro-Cuban rhythms and featuring great piano, trombone and conga solos.
"Del Callejón" is another mambo, this time a slower one and
featuring vibes alongside solos on timbales, trombone and trumpet. In the
1950s, Tito Puente and West Coast USA Latin jazz musician Cal Tjader
popularised the vibes in Latin music, where it often features in mambo music
but also cha cha cha, Latin bugalu, Latin jazz and salsa music. This
Orchestra Mambo International original tune pays homage to the classic mambo
vibes style and is another composition written by band leader/trombonist
Jonny Enright, with words by lead singer Carlos "Pachanga" Peña |

This tune has a long history. We
recorded some tracks with Prince Jamo back in 2010, of which this was one of
them. A couple of years back Andreas picked up this track again with the idea
of making a new riddim for it with live musicians and a more organic feel.
Linking it up with Earth Works studio & musicians at the studio aka
Signal One Band. The riddim was then sent to Aba Ariginal for horns overdubs.
Andreas did make this all happen, so this is a retrospect release, in the
loving memory of our brother, a true rootsman soldier, Andreas Weslien |
