recording studio sessions of Sept 2-4 1994. Originally the band recorded 23
songs but in October 1994 Ben fired the drummer and decided to re-mix
everything. Dec. 1994> Ben erases the drum track and re-drums it himself.
Ben decides to jettison most of the songs and suggests 10 cuts for the debut
so Crypt decided on a 10". And here they are at last> the 13 tracks
cut at Toe Rag that didn't make it onto the Pastoral 10", PLUS the
original version of 'Black Cloud Wandering'. In a sumptuous gatefold
containing ancient pre-interWeb communication forms (letters, faxes, etc). It
would have made a damned great debut album in 1994. It IS a damned great
album in 2019 (and forever!) |

Ever
since their auspicious beginnings, more than a decade ago, Laughing Bastards
have giddily delighted in impurity. Initially a reeds-guitar-bass trio
modeled after the classic Jimmy Giuffre 3, the band has remained truthful to
its original spirit. Saxophone player Michel Mast and guitarist
Jan-Sebastiaan Degeyter have remained its core, but the band went through
several permutations, first welcoming Eline Duerinck (cello) and Marcos Della
Rocha (for Unanimal in 2019) and solidifying its present-day line-up with
bassist Cyrille Obermüller. Bastards. It's kind of a rude word to throw
around carelessly, but there has always been that element of being irregular,
being too stubborn to comply with what is expected, that has set them apart.
This is nowhere more evident than in the material contributed by Degeyter,
who wrote more than half of the album's compositions. A talented illustrator
and designer (he created a few of their striking album covers) as well as a
versatile guitarist, Degeyter always manages to add a strong visual component
to his material. In combination with his knack for pulling exotic influences
into the band's overall sound, it leads to a playful, cinematic eccentricity.
"Tigraman" and "Black Spoon" are examples of this. Both
are infused with an Ethiopian-tinged sound, but while the first one develops
the catchy throbbing of a trance-like soul/rock tune, the second exudes the
lush cadence of Golden Age Ethio jazz, the kind that gets under your skin
with those sensual, irrepressible rhythms. They are a nice match with the
increasing drama of the Slavic-tinged "Red Lemon", the slow, dreamy
flow of the Jamaican dance hall-inspired "Sand", a strong feature
for Duerinck, and "Dosi", that shows Obermüller's knack for
propulsive melody. The synesthete in Degeyter gets free reign in
"Calliope", chamber jazz in which sweeping sax and cello are kept
grounded by guitar, bass and drums. Mast's odd meter-song "Fetish"
is another showcase for the band's effortless dancing and some gorgeous tenor
schmooze. Della Rocha's "Turquoise" starts off in brooding,
contemplative way and keeps simmering on a low, glowing fire. To top it off,
there are a few covers that remind you of the band's origins. A new take on
Giuffre's rootsy "The Train and the River" stresses their loose
flexibility with an Americana style somewhat reminiscent of Charlie Haden,
while Carla Bley's evergreen "Vashkar" gets a carefully constructed
makeover to close out the album with grace. On their latest album, Laughing
Bastards prove they are a quintessential Belgian band - soaking up sounds and
influences from all over the place while maintaining a tight unity - with an
international appeal. Combining jazz and chamber music with ideas from pop
music and multi-colored strains does not only give their music an iridescent
edge, but also keeps the interplay fresh and inspired, something to return to
while waiting to see them live on stage |

This
December, Slovenian label Cogo is presenting their second release. After
amazing success of the first release by Tonske with remixes from Magna Pia
and Volster, Cogo presents this four track various artist vinyl release with
modern and futuristic techno sound. EP contains tracks by Stanislav
Tolkachev, Inigo Kennedy, Samuli Kemppi and label owner Tonske. Cogo label
was established in 2008 and even they are fully active only last two years
they are constantly trying to present innovative techno sound. Stanislav
Tolkachev, Ukrainian techno master has been released on labels like Subsist,
Mord, M_REC LTD and Modularz... First track on this EP represents Stanislav's
famous futuristic sound. This song is introduction into the techno journey
that Cogo is taking us to! Inigo Kennedy is the owner of the label
Asymmetric, characterised by an innovative approach to electronic music. His
discography also stretches to labels like Missile, Semantica, Token and
Stroboscopic Artefacts. "Lucid" by UK producer Inigo Kennedy is
showing his ability to build the immense tension just by playing with layers.
Samuli Kemppi is co-founder of Blacklabel Distillery Records with Inigo
Kennedy. Also, Samuli Kemppi was published by Mote-Evolver, Ostgut Ton.
"Trees Below Surface" by Finnish Samuli Kemmpi continues in this
minimal and futuristic sound that stretches through the whole EP. "Trees
below surface" as the name could suggest is a rhythmic journey through
dark and deep spaces. Cogo label owner Tonske, has worked with labels such as
Tretmuehle and Definitive Recordings. "Obscure" is taking us to a
journey with dark and deep notes, lost in the sea of reverb, pulsating and
leading us to the closure of this amazing various artist release. Produced by

Lemna returns to Mantis with another five intricately sculpted cuts that toy
with tension, release and the mysterious atmosphere of the forest at dawn.
Lemna adopts a considered, patient approach to her music practice, creating
interlocking rhythms which take cues from Autonomic fragmentation as much as
techno hypnosis, but it's the spatial pressure and textural sound design
which makes her music truly fly. Taking predawn walks in woods at the foot of
the mountain she calls home, she drew inspiration from five different
organisms within the vibrant ecosystem around her to create a collection of
tracks she aptly refers to as 'Nocturnal Assembly' |

Panoram
makes soundtracks for daydreams gone sideways. Picture the scene: an
afternoon nap with the television on, quietly, in the corner; snatches of
conversation drift in through the open window. Wandering, half-formed
thoughts take unexpected detours; before you know it, there's a movie playing
out against closed lids, the colors bright, the characters unfamiliar.
Accidental rhythms, incidental melodies, imitations of life, messages in
code. Across 17 fragmentary, sketch-like tracks, Panoram carves a
labyrinthine path in which nothing is what it seems: a fantasy world of
breathy vox pads, faux guitar, detuned synths, bursts of flute and orchestral
percussion, and even the occasional cheeky cartoon sample. It's chillout
music with a chilly edge, ambient with a darkly ironic undertone. (The
briefest glance at your news outlet of choice should be enough to confirm
that the title--Great Times--ought to be taken with a healthy dose of
skepticism.) Panoram has been making music under his Panoram alias for more
than a decade now, releasing albums on labels like Firecracker, Running Back,
and his own Wandering Eye. (He has also performed and recorded with Amen
Dunes, and has co-production credits on Amen Dunes' forthcoming Sub Pop album
Death Jokes.) Panoram's output has ranged widely, taking in abstract pop,
classical composition, twisted takes on library music, and cyborg funk. One
record of "bio-acoustic transmissions" came with a cannabis leaf
pressed in clear wax; his 2021 album Pianosequenza Vol. 1 gathers his
experiments on the Yamaha Disklavier. But Great Times offers the truest
picture yet of a project that has never been easy to pin down. Loath to
overshare details about his personal life, Panoram instead lets the music do
the talking, using his cryptic tracks to express the slipperiest sorts of
ideas--the thoughts that take root where anxiety, distraction, and the most
fleeting traces of grace commingle. Panoram's approach flies in the face of
contemporary ambient orthodoxy, with its emphasis on immersion and uplift.
Great Times expresses something thornier, more difficult to translate, yet
also more tantalizing to contend with. Its 17 tracks offer a chance to get
lost--and an invitation to remain in the maze as long as you like |

goddess Angelyne’s neon-draped sophomore LP Driven to Fantasy steers its way
to Dark Entries as part of the ongoing celebration of their 15th anniversary!
"Who is Angelyne? Angelyne is a voluptuous, blonde, self-made star who
drives a hot pink Corvette; wears her clothes short and tight, and is
influenced by Barbie and Marilyn Monroe.” In 1984, a series of billboards
popped up in the LA area featuring the lone word “Angelyne” along with a
mysterious woman posing provocatively. The campaign created an instant stir,
making her one of the first icons who was "famous for being
famous", and it led to the recording of her second solo LP. Released in
1986, Driven to Fantasy features 8 tracks of bubblegum-hued new wave with a
distinctly LA flavor. On sassy titles like “Sex Goddess”, “Skin Tight”, and
“Flirt”, Angelyne fused the glam and grit of southern Californian punk with
flashy synth-pop style. This will be the first time that this cult record
will be in print since its original release, and comes on pink
Corvette-colored vinyl with a 2-sided poster featuring lyrics. Angelyne is
more than just a billboard or a rock star; she’s been an actress, a visual
artist, and even a political candidate. Celebrate a true Hollywood legend

Unklevon
announces debut ‘UN1C’ LP on Boysnoize Records. The album consists of 11 tracks and
features collaborations with Boys Noize, Alina Pash, Maral, Vel and DJ MELL
G. The title track of Unklevon’s ‘UN1C’ album starts with a steady
snare-heavy beat, foreboding atmospherics and a futuristic vocal. It
introduces the France-based producer’s Detroit-inspired electro LP and also
marks his debut full-length, landing on Boysnoize Records, a label Unklevon’s
been affiliated with since 2022. For the second track on Unklevon’s ‘UN1C’
LP, the International Chrome & Nechto artist is joined by Maral for ‘Bag
Secured’, adding her sensual vocals to a raw cut featuring rough synthlines
and racing rhythm. ‘Science Club’ then continues with infectious and hypnotic
energy driven by a deep, earworm vocal before ‘Speed Chains’ picks up pace
with speedy basslines and rhythms shot through with bleeps. Ukranian singer
Alina Pash infuses Unklevon’s ‘High Key’ with fantastic modern hip-hop flair,
with ‘All 4 Homies’ returning to the club with cut-up sampling and
tripped-out electro sonics. Boysnoize Records’ Boys Noize also teams up with
Unklevon for ‘Spa8cid’, a menacing dancefloor heavy-hitter which eases into
the acid madness of ‘Miami South Express’ which follows. Next up, Unklevon
and Vel drop the aptly named ‘Transed About U’, a true peak-time roller
boasting hypnotic trance-like gated vocals, with German electro superstar DJ
MELL G joining him for ‘Wizard Snakes’, taking a more classical approach with
rich synth lines and crisp drum work. Closing out this fantastic first album
from a promising name in the global electro spheres is ‘Call Me Von’, another

support by Mha Iri, Inigma, Nusha, Dj Choon, Frank Biazzi. This new opus
marks a major comeback for Samuel Sanders, who made a name for himself in the
2000s with his first productions alongside Max Walder on Ghoststyle, whose
track "Cyclone" was covered by big names such as Ken Iishi, Marco
Bailey, Frank Biazzi, Technasia, Marco Carola ... but also on the Invasion label with
"Dependance" (N.E.W.S label) and among others on the Kevlar "Illusion"
label, where this EP received great support from Dave Clarke, Carl Cox, Chris
Liebing ... He also produced alongside Manu Kenton on the Kentek, Frenchtek
and Fanatix labels. With N.O.B.A, he returned to production, choosing Vibes
Addikt for his comeback. The A-side "Do You Like ... 2024" is a
remake of a track he and N.O.B.A created in 2008 on Reaktion, in a much more
Hard Techno version with a spirit all its own. Side B is dedicated to Samuel
Sanders himself and presents his new productions: B1 "Desolation" a
hypnotic spirit with a touch of Acid on the cover for lovers of this spirit.
The B2 "Don't Be Afraid" is close to Hard Techno with a more clubby
style for fans of this style |

Federsen inaugurates his new
imprint Alt Dub this May with a split EP comprised of original cuts from
himself and Hidden Sequence and a remix of each by the opposing artist.
Opening with Hidden Sequence's 'Switch', we dive right into a classic deep
house dub vibe, masterfully nuanced and perfect for the strobe and smoke
filled dance floor. Federsen's 'Polarity' follows and dives into darker
realms via expansive dub chords, intricately intertwined percussive
reverberations, cascading bass flutters and crisp, minimalistic drums.
Federsen's remix of 'Switch' shifts the original's ethereal aesthetic into a
haze of billowing atmospherics, delayed percussion and vacillating low-end
pulsations, recorded live on the mixing desk. Hidden Sequence's remix of 'Polarity'

is a new vinyl and digital underground techno label from Austrian artists
Luca Tresque, Joe Haensn and Rotary Motion. 'Exceed Limits' follows their
special prequel EP and launches the label catalogue in style. Florian Meindl
is a Berlin-based artist who runs the FLASH record label and who has appeared
outside of his own imprint on labels like Stephan Bodzin's Herzblut to Oliver
Koletzki's Stil vor Talent. "Gridlock" is a true jackin' cut with a
multitude of mechanical elements and raw analogue energy. Linear System is a
Spanish artist who has released music on esteemed labels like Edit Select,
Ben Sims' Symbolism and Dynamic Reflection. "Taurinom" is a moody,
rolling groove with gripping suspense and haunting touches from gothic
effects and an eerie atmosphere. Leipzig is the home of JANEIN, a respected
artist known for releasing on Index Marcel Fengler, Slam's Soma, Fiedel's
Fiedeltwo, Exos' Planet X and Electric Rescue's Skryptom. "Neowise"
is punchy and percussive track with a metallic, siren-like hook and
infectious energy. Daniel Heinrich is also from Berlin, and shows himself to
be a top talent following his EP's on Elektrotribe to Inherit with remixes by
Arnaud Le Texier an Hadone. "Close Your Eyes" has a pacey style
with superb stabbing chords that create an old-school feel alongside vocal
chants for extra impact. Stuttgart-based Egotot runs the Schimmer label and
also lists BCCO, OECUS and Ketch's SYXT in his quality back catalogue.

repress- The name Sleepnet first emerged when UKF premiered a mysterious
release named "Angel Blade", following a series of cryptic posts on
social media. Now confirmed to be the debut solo project for Noisia's Nik
Roos. The EP, cites Sleepnet, is "inspired by true events", and
features the tracks: "Love No More", "Angel Blade",
"Void Song" (collaboration with Former), "Unravel",
"First Light", "Glass Hearts" (collaboration with IMANU),
and "Hindsight" The music explores different stages of loss, grief
and rebirth, and some of the tracks contain fragments of sounds and music
that were originally intended for Noisia productions over the past two
decades, but never used. "Sleepnet exists because I wanted to have an
outlet for my music after Noisia. I want to use that vocabulary to tell a
more personal story. I want the music, the whole project, to mean something
to me. So I tried to do as much as I could myself. Writing and producing,
mixing and mastering, logo design and artwork, even some singing here and
there. I am considering knitting the merchandise myself as well :D I worked
on this EP from December 2019 to December 2020. Writing it helped me identify
and process things I'd been going through: letting go of Noisia, grieving
over lost friends, and welcoming my daughter into the world. You can look at
it in that light: as a process of grief and rebirth. That's what I hear in
it. But the music should speak for itself and it has a magical ability to
mean different things to different people. So have a listen yourself, I
wonder what you might hear" |

formation, there have been several line up changes, currently the group
consists of: Leon Leiffer, Tony Mahoney, Jr. Bailey, and they have recently
been joined by A.J. Franklin (Chosen Few, Federals). On tours they have
supported Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, Rufus Thomas, Dennis Brown,
Owen Grey, John Holt, Alton Ellis and many more Soul / Reggae greats. Over
the years they have worked with many notable Jamaican producers, Count

Not
so long ago Marlena Shaw was a forgotten figure. The talented vocalist had
made several LPs for respected labels such as Cadet and Blue Note, and she'd
performed regularly throughout the '60s and '70s. But she hardly had what you
might call diva status. Falling into the unfortunate category that slips
uneasily between soul and jazz, she was accepted - but not especially admired
- by aficionados of either genre. Then came the '90s, and an open-minded
enthusiasm for soul and jazz - and more importantly - everything in between -
soon changed that. Marlena Shaw became an icon, and the diva status soon
blossomed amongst her new-found soul-jazz fans. Respect is a word that means
much to any singer. The artist who stands up in the bright lights before an audience
that has handed over their hard-earned cash has only their physical presence
and naked voice to rely on. There is no hiding when you're on stage, you're
the focus of attention and everybody is gawping at you. The singer yearns to
communicate and entertain, and in return not only asks for appreciation and
acceptance, but respect. To this end Marlena Shaw has endured decades of
singing in the shadows, and she has only recently finally found her niche. On
Disc One we have 'California Soul', probably the most enduring and well-known
of her many songs, but just a few seconds listening will tell you that it is
much more than that. It's already a classic amongst those who have already
seen the light and have danced and swayed to its timeless swing. Upon hearing
it all lovers of soul, jazz – or any other kind of good music - will feel an
aural glow as warm as the Californian sun. The song 'Liberation Conversation'
on the flip was only ever available on her highly revered 1969 LP 'The Spice
of Life'. This is where the 'Blues ain't nothing but a good woman gone bad'
launches into an irresistible, relentless uptempo funk groove. Disc Two
showcases 'Wade in the Water', an ancient song rumoured to have been
developed and popularised by slaves in the American south. The message is to
pass on the notion that by fleeing in a bid for freedom through streams and
rivers, the scent that bloodhounds use to follow their victims will be
obscured. Marlena's version has long been a favourite dancefloor filler since
its 45-only release back in 1966. 'Woman of the Ghetto' is one of her
best-known songs and ends the set on the other side. The opening number from
'The Spice of Life', it's since been recognised for the classic it is, and as
such has been afforded anthemic status. We release the original 45 version
here, as used to promote the LP back in the day |

Oliver Dollar joins forces with studio wizard ADMN, a musician, TV Lounge
resident, Infolines label owner, and affiliate of Carl Craig's Planet E,
among many more top labels. Their brilliant 'Before You' featuring Apropos is
a soul-drenched house cut with a classic vibe and an irresistible sense of

Pooling their musical prowess, Dan and Jim embarked on a journey of sonic
exploration, meticulously crafting their signature sound by dissecting
samples and breakbeats, infusing the musical landscape with a revitalizing
energy. As their reputation grew within the local scene, they found
themselves tasked with supplying a track for a promotional CD-ROM by a
burgeoning software company. Through marathon sessions of digging, slicing,
sequencing, and exchanging snippets over phone calls, Electroliners hit their
creative stride. It was only natural to unveil their creation in the raw
intensity of a live rave setting. Thanks to a connection with DJ DRC, they
seized the opportunity, and the rest is history. Copies of the record flew
off the shelves by the thousands locally, and its overseas acclaim,
spearheaded by licensing through XL Recordings in the UK, cemented its status
as a bona fide underground classic. But what exactly is an Electroliner you
might ask? Jim sheds light on the inspiration: “I delved into books on trains
at the public library,” he reveals. “Among them, 'Electroliner' caught my
eye, a train line in the Midwest. Given the track's pulsating train horn,
'Electroliner' and 'Loose Caboose' simply clicked.” 'Loose Caboose' is an
all-time classic, and still causes much damage on the dancefloor today. Yet

Minimum
Syndicat (also known as MS or M-Syndicat) are two musicians from Paris who
have been making electronic noise and live performances for decades. They are
known for their very unique mix of acid, rave and industrial on the one hand
and cinematic, psychedelic, sci-fi landscapes on the other. S.C.H.O.R.L. is
their first full length album. Like some kind of bleak space opera it tells
its story of lonely subaquatic outposts, Soviet droids and mantis-priests
gathering. The core is spaced out electro, but it also has elements of
techno, doomcore, breakbeat and industrial, one could say. ''At this point
subgenres are less important than in the past, it's more like the alternative
electronic scene against the industry turning techno into moronic money-driven
entertainment.'', they say, and right they are. The album features two
collaborations with French heavyweights Umwelt and Voiron, the artwork comes
from the legendary Belgian artist Elzo Durt, who made some of our strongest
artworks in the past and who is a fan of Minimum Syndicat himself. The 2x12''

repress- The ever-reliant Deepchord kicks off 2014 in his usual stylish way
with two deep cuts in the Luxury EP. After last years jaunt into the ambient
with 20 Electrostatic Soundfields, Rod Model return to the world of slick
beats and even dreamier synths and atmospheres. Luxury 1 ebbs in majestically
as beautifully crafted layers of synths glide across field recorded drops of
water that instantly play with your senses. Pumping sub bass fills the rest
of the spectrum as Rod does what he does best by creating an unending slick
groove, pieced together by crisp percussion. Yet more atmospherics come into
play in Luxury 2 as otherworldly field recordings are brought to life through
the use of Rod's unique processing and layers of dream state synths. A
perfectly worked groove seems to come out of nowhere and glides gently under
the atmosphere; again subtle percussion ties everything together seamlessly.
The master of Deep Techno strikes again with nothing short of 2 elegant works
that typify his skills as a producer |

Matching
his signature melodic futurism with enduring club music structures, Pev
brings the Pulse series to a natural conclusion with the Pulse Phase EP. On
this third release he underlines the broader approach to tempos and styles
he’s taken across this latest period of his output, soon to be coalesced into
a new live set. If there’s been a nostalgic streak detectable amongst the
crisp modernism of the Pulse series, it comes through clearer than ever in
the looped-up house jack and starry-eyed techno synth hooks of ‘Pulse IX’.
‘Pulse TEN’ pares back for a lean soundsystem workout driven by a strafing
arp and fractured drums while ‘Pulse XI’ revisits 90s bleep techno with a
deep, dubby intention. ‘Pulse XII’ completes the picture capturing the
skeletal pressure of 2-step at its most slender and deadly. There’s never a
sense of over-familiarity — the exacting angles of the drums and alien hue of
the synths maintain Pev’s distinctive sound first and foremost. But this
series has also been an opportunity to hear some of his musical DNA more
explicitly than before, cast in universal rave motifs propelled by the
unrelenting pursuit of new forms for the dance. Livity Sound is a label set
up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK
techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. It
has since become one of the UK's foremost protagonists for cutting edge
