- Permeate: JLM returns to Spatial with another superb selection of old
school inspired tracks. Kicking us off is Permeate, with anxious melodies
evocative of 90's sci-fi introducing proceedings before filtered old school
breaks slowly rise into the mix. An early breakdown with the playful bassline
flying solo for a spell precedes superbly executed amens adding a thick layer
of detail to an eclectic beat pattern. A2 - Orogeny: Orogeny opens with a
lush old school riff, classically off-key melodies and echoing pads as the
varied beats takes shape - effortlessly navigating a range of breaks to
create a unique, bouncy pattern evoking a dynamic mid 90's energy with a
captivating rhythm. Tuneful synth work and jazzy drum samples deliver an
entertaining breakdown before the breaks resume for the latter half, airy
pads adding further texture to the track. AA1 - Subsidence: A contemplative,
introspective tone is set by a delicate melody in the introduction to
Subsidence, a track which showcases the variety of atmospheres JLM Production
scan glean from his unique brand of drum & bass on Spatial set to the
usual high standard of classic breaks and bass. Majestic pads and synths
envelop the listener in a solemn haze, while a more intense, darkly melody counters,
creating a divergent synergy to the vibe. AA2 - Laminar Flow: Closing the EP
in style, we are treated to a jazzy, melodic introduction to Laminar Flow
with rising strings and vocal samples, before inspired 80's style synth
sounds zip around the mix to a subtle, clean 2-step breakbeat. JLM ups the
ante with a crisp Hot Pants break layered over the top while the
jazz-inspired Rhodes key shifts craft a tuneful aura as cow bells ring
throughout, rounding off another sublime and varied experience for the ears.

Pheromoans
mark their ninth year of existence with the release of fourth album, 'Im On
Nights'. A largely electronic affair, this new ten-track LP refracts vocalist
Russell Walkers stony poeticisms through a lens of analogue synths, while
etching drum machine clicks and spaced out keyboard ditties into the bigger
picture. Guitars and bass still make an appearance - helmed by Christian
Butler, Alex Garran and James Tranmer - but theyve mostly been eclipsed by
the scrappy, artificial beats which now underline Walker's diary-like,
ennui-soaked rhymes. Album opener 'Wizard - with its blocky, Bizarre Love
Triangle-esque intro and unnerving pins and needles crackle - jolts you awake
with charges of experimental noise. Then there's the plaintive synth pads on
the LPs eponymous, stripped back tear-jerker and the acid squelch of
Depressed Wobble. Because, with 'I'm On Nights', musical touchstones take on
a myriad cult guises, from the downbeat minimal wave of Solid Space or
Absolute Body Control, to a hypothetical vision of Dan Treacy crooning
caustically over Mari by Martin Rev.. And, as always, theres the requisite
nod to all things DIY and Messethetics. Walker says he hope this new
direction will create some distance away from a certain demographic |

GUNQUIT are a London-based rumble-bop trash freak-a-billy five-piece that
formed in 2011 after neighbours Tina Swasey and Simon Wild met each other
while frequenting a North London vinyl-only sweaty cellar club DJ night.
After an energetic pogo competition they decided to create a group blending
their love of wild garage punk, exotica, raw rhythmnblues and surf-trash.
They have played shows, festivals and events in the UK and around Europe
alongside acts such as Black Lips producer King Khan with his Shrines, Fat
White Family, Public Service Broadcasting and Andrew Weatherall.. The group
have also done two live sessions for Londons only independent art radio
station, Resonance FM, and the singles have had frequent airings on BBC Radio
6 .They are a sight to behold with bags of personality and an endearing
amount of humour. Their music and performances appear effortless, with lyrics
that are macabre and kitsch and a live performance that is better than any
art-punks out there at the moment. This is retro pop at its killer best. You
know that this is a band that, in years to come, people will be arguing over
which cramped Camden basement they saw them in first. Live on stage, the

In
November 2014, Lost Dawn went from being one of Falmouths best kept secrets
to a UK-wide one-to-watch. That month saw the release of their debut single
Manchild - "a great example of indie-rock which combines great guitar
hooks, Bolan-like vocals and excites throughout" - Subba Cultcha. The
tracks video premiered on NME.com, followed shortly after by heavy coverage
of Lost Dawn in the magazines two-page Kernow Wave feature and play on
Radcliffe and Maconies BBC 6 Music show. In the same month, Lost Dawn toured
the UK with The Red Cords and The Black Tambourines, to celebrate the release
of all three bands visceral live compilation album The Falmouth Sound. Now
Lost Dawn are set to release their self-titled debut album, which encompasses
some of the garage-rock of aforementioned local bands, but with a more
experimental edge and swagger, mixed with hearty portions of 60s-70s rock,
psychedelia, blues and touches of glam-rock to create what has been referred
to as "desert-basked-psych" - NME. Lost Dawn started out as the
killer combination that is frontman Stanley Duke, a one time electronic music
artist, but now full time artisan, with a style, demeanor and vocal delivery
that could have him mistaken for a love child of Jim Morrison, Marc Bolan
and/or Devendra Banhart. Alongside Benjamin Wood, the master of garage
production - having produced the records of all three Falmouth Sound bands -
as well as already being an accomplished musician with his side-project The
Golden Dregs - a track of which can be found on Rough Trade New Yorks 80N7
compilation. Now Lost Dawn have become a trio, after promoting touring
bassist, Joel McConkey, to a bonafide full-time member. Lost Dawns

was an incredible year for Londons experimental music scene with many
different strands. Recommended Records were rereleasing the first two Faust
LPs, L. Voag had found the way out, Swell Maps were in occupied Europe.
Throbbing Gristle and other industrialists were giving plenty of live
actions. Nurse With Wound had just released their first LP, as had This Heat.
The other great LP on Piano Records by Steve Beresford was also on the
shelves. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the capitol Adam Bohman was making his first
recordings working with two budget cassette recorders. Bunhill Row was the
first complete album of material, but whilst the aforementioned artists were
pressing up their recordings and making them easily available via Rough Trade
or the Recommended Records shop, Adams releases remained in tiny cassette
editions made for friends or exchanged on the mail artnetwork. So here for
the first time is Bunhill Row, released as it should have appeared at the
time - on vinyl. It must be said that this is quite unlike any of Adams other
releases, and quite unlike his work with Morphogenesis, or his work as one
half of The Bohman Brothers. This is songs - 30 in all, and the main
instrument used is a trumpet (an ordinary trumpet), along with other acoustic
instruments and a vast variety of objects and junk, much of which is still
part of the Bohman armoury. The overall feel sits somewhere between R.
Steevie Moore and Caroliner, but this is British of course. Somehow it all
works, and all in all, opens another window on to the incredibly fruitful
astral alignment that occured over London at this time |

Over
the past decade, Kasra V has blossomed as a prominent figure in the music
industry, particularly through his renowned residency on NTS Radio which has
expanded his profound knowledge and expertise in music. Since landing his
radio residency in January 2014 he has successfully broadcast over 200 radio
shows, making use of the format to explore a wide array of sonic attitudes,
styles and systems. To celebrate his achievement Kasra V launches his own
imprint V-Sion which he will not only use for his own release output but also
to propel his vision of contemporary dance music. To kick things off he
presents a stunning 9-track compilation '10:10 Kasra V presents 10 years on
NTS Radio' featuring unreleased tracks from some of his most revered guests
who have graced his show throughout the years. Each contribution is wholly in
line with Kasra V's genre-spanning approach. Over the years some periods have
seen him playing straightforward club music, others featuring an extended
notion of listening music. One hears a whole breadth of influences in his
releases on acclaimed labels such as Radiant Records and Shaytoon Records:
collected strands of rave, acid house, San Francisco breakbeat, new beat,
ambient, oddball pop from 90s and 80s, UK bleep and so on. The regularity of
a broadcasting residency pushed him to carry out a constant study of the
history of dance music, and he envisions V-Sion as an output to curate
musical output, contributing to the ongoing dialogue between past, future and
the ever-changing fulcrum of the sonic present. The tracks presented on 10:10
are also emblematic of this historically-informed approach to dance music.
They are all tuned for the floor, but present a range of possible floors to
conjure: Fantastic Man's progressive opener, "Neural Filter", is
airy and laced with delicate breakbeats, while "Archangel Waltz" by
Sepehr presents a shadowy drama of string samples and throbbing bass
swells."Qadak" by 500SEC lays an anthemic Arabic melody over
bubbling electro; 2 tracks prior, Angel D'Lite circulates a whisper and moan
through the mix of a euphoric, rave-stabbed anthem. The latter encouraged
Kasra to put out this very compilation, which is just a testament to the
value of the company we keep |

Mystica: Absorbed from my room onto a triangle ship, by an alien wearing blue
scaled bio-armour, to travel instantaneously across vast folds of time &
space. The alien occupied the pinnacle of the triangle, the other two points
by myself and an unknown human female, respectively. The ship, at least for
this type of journey, was powered by harnessing the coalescent, universal
force of LOVE. This truly hierogamic union acted as a sort of
inter-dimensional transcendence driver, which allowed us the defeat of all
material boundary and therefore, time itself. It was a keen insight into the
ultimate conciliation: that love permeates and binds together an otherwise
cold and hostile universe. And perhaps it was not an "alien" but an

is Nicolas Rombouts (Dez Mona) on double bass, Simon Segers (Black Flower,
Absynthe Minded) on drums and Filip Wauters (Het Zesde Metaal) on pedal steel
and electric guitar. Since 2020, they have been exploring collective
improvisations laced with small pieces of composition. From intimate and
minimal droning to explosive grooves, SPOOK focuses mainly on the intense
interplay between the three members who always dive "into the
moment" in search of new sounds and "instant composing." The
defining sounds of the pedal steel and the very own use of effects pedals in
this as well as the sound of the double bass make SPOOK a unique band that
not only subsumes jazz, but alsoKrautrock, minimal, noise and free improv.
The trance and melodic drum parts create an energetic tapestry that even
invites dancing! In 2022, W.E.R.F. records released their self-titled debut
album, which was met with positive reviews and well-received concerts of
which Gent Jazz in 2023 was a provisional highlight. Then Nicolas described
their music as "free country" or "post western" because
of the distinctive sound of the pedal steel. On their new album "The
Brood", which will be released May 31 on W.E.R.F. records, they create a
more contemporary sound away from "country." You could almost
detect Eastern influences with more meditative improvisations and more
abstract repetitive compositions. The cover is a work by Japanese artist Kumi
Sugaï that he created when he stayed in Paris in the late 1960s and
discovered abstract art. The work almost symbolizes a kind of cloud of sound
that SPOOK dwelled in during the creation of this album. The sound is less
"dense" than the first album, but rather open and lighter in color.

Dirty Nice is Don’t Hug Me I’m
Scared composer Charlie Pelling’s musical project, with Lisbon based musician
Mark Thompson. Pelling is fast becoming the go to composer in the UK comedy
scene working with the likes of 2022 Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Sam
Campbell and BAFTA winner Jamie Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats, Fleabag). New
album Surrenderland (Chiverin Records) is both a physical place in time and
also a state of mind. It acted as a guiding principle for the making of the
record, leaning into their instincts and interests, with both the cartoon
visuals and the music influencing each other’s processes. Charlie & Mark
wanted to follow the fun with this album, not overthinking and naturally

Kowalski presents two wonderful track-highlights, produced in collaboration
with Funk D'Void and Joris Voorn. This 12" wants to give you a taste for
his upcoming album which was released for the first time in 2005. The Funk
D.Void remix of Alexander's "You Think You Know?" was the beginning
of a really efficient team play between two exceptionally gifted musicians.
Alexander Kowalski made a remix for Funk D'Void in return and after having a
good collaboration both decided to compose a track. So we listen tot
Alexander Kowalski's and Funk D'Void's first track in cooperation "Can't
Hold Me Back", accompanied by the well-defined deep vocals by Fritz
Kalkbrenner. Alexander Kowalski and Joris Voorn have been knowing each other
for a long time. They also did remixes for each other like Joris'
Tribaliscious Mix of "Days Of The Liar" and by this way they found
their musical solidarity. It was obvious that they had to do a track
together: "She's Worth It" is their output of the team play in the
studio. "Alexander Kowalski with Funk D'Void and Joris Voorn"
proves us that these three global-techno-players complement one another

Music
From Memory is pleased to announce the upcoming release of ‘Salt And Sugar
Look The Same’, a collaborative album from Tim Koh and Sun An. Tim Koh is an
American multi-instrumentalist and visual artist born and raised in Los
Angeles. He has been touring, releasing music and showing art works
internationally for nearly two decades. Sun An is a Southern California-based
graphic designer, art director, and sound designer who has self-released
music since 2012. ‘Salt And Sugar Look The Same’ plays somewhat like a
dreamlike collage; across 18 short compositions, finger-picked guitars melt
with electronics and warped samples to create a form of American Primitivism
bent and refracted through Tim and Sun’s unique lens. Their collaborative
journey unfolded gradually, exchanging snippets via email over the span of a
year or so, Sun in LA and Tim in Berlin. Amidst personal struggles and
uncertainties, the act of recording and composing became a refuge, a safe
space where they could navigate life's complexities together. Though they
didn't converse much, mostly just sending music, their musical dialogue spoke
volumes, shaping a narrative that evolved naturally over time. As they shared
their musical ideas, they discovered a profound sense of connection and
understanding with one another. The music became a conduit for healing,
bridging the gaps between them and offering comfort in times of need. Their
musical influences and backgrounds anchored them. From reminiscing about past
scenes to exploring cultural intricacies of being Korean American in Los
Angeles, infused with a natural sense of shared identity, their collaboration
reflected a mergence of old and new memories into a hallucinatory, dream-like
experience. Across the 18 compositions that make up the album, incense
emerges as a poignant motif, symbolizing the passage of time. Each incense
stick becomes a vessel carrying the essence of moments gone by, while the
holder becomes the custodian of these ephemeral memories. ‘Salt And Sugar
Look The Same’ invites the listener on a boundary-transcending journey of
introspection, joy, and pain, creating an experience that lingers long after
