Vinyl LP + MP3.Mining the rich territories of The Velvet Underground and The
Beach Boys, their debut album proper "Wooden Head" features
fourteen thrillingly taut and melodic pop songs with a deep, dark
undercurrent. Comprised of Argentinian Max Claps and James Hoare (also of
Veronica Falls) - who both sing and write the songs - and joined by Daniel
Nellis (bass) and Robert Syme (drums), the band have already shared stages
with the likes of Real Estate, Woods, Crystal Stilts, Toy and Metronomy.
Claps and Hoare bonded over a mutual love of the Velvets, Love, Felt and West
Coast pop and began writing together, taking their name from a song by the
pioneering soft psych band The Free Design. In 2010 they released their first
single, "Recalling", following it up with a five-song EP for London
label No Pain in Pop. In 2013 Lo Recordings released all their output to date
on a collection titled "Waiting for the Summer", followed by the
single "First Step Out" in February 2014. The songs are breezy and
easy on the ear, with sublime harmonies and chiming Byrdsian guitar, but with
a darker twist and a pervasive air of melancholy. Stand-out tracks include
the beautiful but sad "Summers Gone" (about mental illness),
"Magazine" (an upbeat number written from the perspective of a
bullet in the barrel of a gun) and "Youll See" (about how when you
die youll see everyone you know, all there lined up in a row). With
"Wooden Head", The Proper Ornaments prove that it is still possible
to create an album of pure pop perfection |

'America' and 'Rondo A La Turk' were recorded in colour for Swiss TV in
September 1968. The 'Hits A Gogo' series also featured shows by David Bowie
and Humble Pie. 'Azrial (Angel Of Death)' was captured live at Piper Club,
Rome on 6th April the same year for Italian TV. Remarkably, the clips
survived and can be seen on popular video channels on the interweb |

maintains his seat at the drums. This line-up, recorded to mobile phone,

go back to 2021.BIG SCENIC NOWHERE played a show out in Joshua Tree and while
we were all in the same place (Tony the singer lives like 20 hours away) we
thought we should spend two days jamming in the studio. Our usual way of
recording is jam out freely and then edit those jams down into songs
afterwards. The song "The Way Down" was the last jam of that
session. We were about to pack up and Tony Reed started playing the main
riff. Sometimes that's all it takes to get immersed into a 25 min jam |

popular music, Tim Maia was a musical polymath and prolific recording artist
best known for introducing American soul to the Brazilian music scene,
pioneering the sambalanco style by blending elements of soul, funk, rock, and
samba. Maia recorded four self-titled albums for Polydor Brazil, this fourth
release from 1973 arguably the best, with its outstanding hits 'Réu Confesso'
and 'Gostava Tanto de Você', 'Do Your Thing, Behave Yourself' shows how the
soul form fitted him perfectly and 'O Balanco' full to bursting with

Starting
out as a recording project between Angus Lord, Claudia Serfaty and Stephanie
Hughes, the germ of what would eventually become the Stroppies was formed
around a kitchen table in Melbourne in early 2016. The initial idea was to
create open ended music, collaged quickly and haphazardly together on a
Tascam 4 track Portastudio that drew on stream of conscious/ness creativity
and a DIY attitude. The desire to move beyond the pre programmed drum
patterns available on their Casio Keyboard led to the addition of Rory Heane
on drums and a more conven/tional band dynamic. In Late 2016, Alex Macfarlane
recorded the band in their lounge room direct to 4 track, capturing 7 songs
that would become their 2017 self titled cassette tape debut. The songs were
bounced back and forth from tape machine to com/puter to tape machine to
computer again. In keeping with the bands initial aesthetic, dubs were laid
over a 4 month period incre/mentally on different devices. They make modest,
idiosyncratic pop songs that reward with repeated listening |

Reissue of Smoke Dawson's 1971
private press LP, 'Fiddle,' out on Tompkins Square, August 19th. George
"Smoke" Dawson played banjo in MacGrundy's Old-Timey Wool Thumpers
with Peter Stampfel (later of Holy Modal Rounders) in 1960, lived for years
at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, NY, and roamed around the US as an
itinerant bagpipe and fiddle player for decades. His life is laced with small
triumphs, and lots of tragedy. But he's still with us. Tompkins Square
reissues his only album, a remarkable 1971 private press LP, on August 19th,

splash with idnight Rock' in 1976. After a debut LP for Channel One, his
self-produced Dance On The Corner raised the bar several levels. Voiced at King
Tubby's studio, mixed by Tubby, Jammy and Scientist and edited by the King
himself, the album has Thomas chatting over hard Roots Radics rhythms earlier
used by Barrington Levy - the perfect platform for Thomas' relaxed chants,
vexed rants, and commentaries on Jamaican life. This is Jah Thomas at his

Taken
from the recent "New Patterns" compilation on NICE UP!, "Lazer
Quest" got such a reaction from DJs that we thought it only right to
give it a full release of its own. Known previously for their dancehall &
dub productions on labels such as Mungo's Hifi's Scotch Bonnet and Reggae
Roast, the Leeds powerhouse duo of Danny T & Tradesman can also turn
their hand to deep and devastating dubstep, harking back to their formative
years in front of the speakers at Sub Dub. "Lazer Quest" has
already blown dances apart with its cavernous dub stylings and vintage wobble
bass. On the flip we have 2 brand new tracks of equal weight and ferocity -
firstly the snarky "Nobody Cares" featuring a ranting voicenote
from their friend and collaborator Jakey Banton, again adding some vintage
era wonkiness and sounding like a long lost Coki tune. Taking things even
deeper, "Acid Wash" strips things back to an almost skeletal frame
with echoes Eski style synths - one for the late night /early morning crew.

printed sleeve - black 12” vinyl. Washington collective, The 3 Pieces,
privately-pressed Iwishcan William on their own DL Records in 1982. The 12
has Discogs, for one, confused. Is it soul, rap, jazz, go-go, funk, electro,
or educational? By nature of its birthplace and date of birth, it`s all of
those. Synths shimmer in harp-like glissando. The bass grumbles, rumbles,
machine-made. The beat pops and locks. The whole thing grooving and exuding
positivity. One part the cosmic funk of say Cloud One`s Patty Duke. Another,
the balearic chug of Will Powers` Adventures In Success. Like Brother D it
looks to “agitate, educate, and organize”, and stirs in the sentiments of
Razzy`s I Hate Hate. Imagine if the Last Poets jammed with sister Sarah
Webster Fabio. Keys parp like car horns, a real trumpet blows a Don Cherry
solo, but the track really revolves around its sweet Sesame Street
call-and-response chorus: “I wish love. I can love. I will love. I am love.”
Swiss gentleman DJ and Phantom Island resident, Lexx, produces a killer remix
- smoothing out the OG`s jerky edges, upping its sophistication. Making clear
the contributions of Lexx` new bubbling electronics. rescuing a clipped
guitar, previously lost deep in the mix, and moving the children’s voices to
the fore. Ensuring you’ll remember that ““I am” is the glory of a wish come
true.” Idjut Boy Dan Tyler then ties up the package, well he actually kinda
sends it out into space - expanding everything in echo. NYC Peech Boys-esque
delay. The result is a mind-blowing, psychedelic, almost ambient, Larry
Levan-like, Paradise Garage dub. Where fragments of song fly at you from four
corners. Trippily pan from left to right. The horn blasts now paying tribute
to King Tubby`s Hi-Fi. François Kevorkian going bang! All carefully mastered

This
ain't no normal nightmare, kid. This is Nightmares On Wax, aka DJ EASE, aka
George Evelyn. Born under a bad sign, with lino in hand, Mr. Evelyn went
forth into the world and breakdanced (brokedance?). It's what you did in the
80s when you were young, loved hip hop and couldn't rap for toffee. When
house arrived they turned their clever hands to it. Bleeps and beats is what
it was. That's what everyone said. But there was always a bit more than a
bunch of bleeps to what Nightmares On Wax did. The north never really took
the name very seriously (Sweet Exorcist even named their album Clonk as a
pisstake). Then George flipped the script and went and did Smokers Delight,
the beats not so much seminal as semolina: gloopy and slow and sweet and
lovely. And now we have this: a 2024 reissue of his seminal Late Night Tales
compilation. Tom Scott's 'Sneakin' In The Back' — one of the most sampled
beats in hip hop — makes an appearance in its full glory, while Quincy Jones,
the inspiration for NOW's 'Nights Interlude', backs up the classics with
‘Listen (What It Is)’. Evelyn's hip hop sensibility is to the fore throughout
and nowhere is this more evident than on ‘Intergalactic Throwdown' by former
Freestylers' DJ, Mad Doctor X. And can we forget the sublime version of the
Classic IV's 'Spooky' by darling Dusty? No, we can't. Finally — oh, finally!
— there is the now-traditional cover version, with George serving up a soupy
version of 'Brothers On The Slide' that gives a nod of respect to the
original British funk soul brothers, Cymande. This ain't no nightmare at all:
it's Nightmares On Wax Pressed on double 180 gram virgin vinyl. Includes 30cm

Outsider
ambient soundscape by two musicians from the Paris alternative : Désiré
Bonaventure & Zach. An enchanted yet psychedelic dream-like ballad
recorded in one take in an ephemeral delirium; borrowing from dub, drone, IDM
& techno, reflecting singular inter-worlds and inviting us to join them.
Rue des Garderies is a distillate produced by the spontaneous collaboration
of Désiré Bonaventure and Zach, two musicians evolving in the Parisian
alternative scenes and so named in homage to a former local hotspot of
other-music Rue des Gardes - now bygone - where this improvisation took
place. Accustomed to exorcising time and space with the multidisciplinary
collective †een?ge g?d, Zach has also been evolving in various frequencies -
beatmaking, mastering - for over 15 years. Désiré Bonaventure, on the other
hand, is a member of the duo Euphonic Alliances Ltd. and R.A.F. Soundsystem.
Rue des Garderies was recorded in one take, using samplers and effects,
amidst a tangle of cables, with eyes closed, as dawn approached, in
anticipation for another moment of the present. Here, Désiré and Zach delve
into the in-between worlds (musical, but not limited to), immersing
themselves in their cracks, folds and emanations, attempting to narrate them
to us. From this material they shape a new alchemy lasting over 1h30, akin to
a prolonged journey into psychedelia, drawing from various currents (such as
ambient, drone, IDM, dub techno, and the English electronic scene of the
1990s), rich in organic and analogue textures that overlap, stretch, fold and
expand. The result is a grand and ethereal fresco, with shifting colours and
textures, evoking astral projections and sporadic rhythms; a whole other
world, populated by shapes, hues and new lives, forming a complex but
enchanting sound essay. Born of a fragile chaos, Rue des Garderies is an
ephemeral harmony that accompanies moments of existence; a dance without
tangible movement |

'A
trip across the frequencies of Bristol's pirate radio stations via cut-ups of
broadcasts, taken from the late 1980s to the early 2000s ~ also a love-letter
to my childhood, an audio document of the years I spent growing up in the
city.'' Sounds like Funkadelic, Touch of Class, Latest Edition, JB Crew,
Manhattan, 5th Avenue (and the many more featured on this tape) originally
began to form in the mid-1980s. With lovers rock dwindling, and the reggae
scene becoming dominated by harder digital-style dancehall, these sounds
provided a tight but loyal crowd with a potent alternative - playing a
mixture of killer rare soul, funk and boogie records in an inimitably reggae
soundsystem style, complete with toasting, sirens and effects aplenty. This
is Death Is Not The End's contribution to the Blowing Up The Workshop mix
series, subsequently given a cassette release on the label in 2019, finally
receives a limited vinyl LP pressing |

Death
Is Not The End's 333 series is back with another dig into the catalogue of
the NYC-based Flames label on this reissue of a highly coveted
Revolutionaries LP, Meditation in Dub. One of reggae music's most famed
session bands, The Revolutionaries were an often revolving cast of some of
the finest session musicians on the island during the roots and early
dancehall periods of the mid/late 1970s and early 1980s. These would include
Earl 'Wire' Lindo, Radcliffe 'Dougie' Bryan, Ansell Collins, Bobby Kalphat,
Lloyd Parks, Uziah 'Sticky' Thompson, Bongo Herman, Stanley Bryan, Bo Peep,
Eric 'Bingy Bunny' Lamont, Errol 'Tarzan' Nelson, Skully Simms, Robbie Lyn,
Mikey 'Mao' Chung amongst many others. The enduring core of the group,
however, was undoubtedly in the coming together of the legendary rhythm
section of drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Robbie Shakespeare - with the
formation of The Revolutionaries marking the first time that this often
unparalleled duo worked together. The group laid down these rhythm tracks at
their base at the storied Channel One recording studio, Maxfield Avenue,
Kingston sometime in the mid 1970s - under the arrangement of one of reggae
music's great undersung figures, Ossie Hibbert. Early in 1975 Ossie was to
move to Maxfield Avenue just as Jo Jo & Ernest Hookim's studio was
starting up. A well-respected session musician himself through the late 1960s
and early 70s (he played keys for Bunny 'Striker' Lee and Keith Hudson and
would also form part of another foundational session band, The Soul
Syndicate) he was initially summoned by Jo Jo as a band member for The
Revolutationaries but quickly assumed the role of producer, engineer and
talent scout for the studio, responsible for selecting the artists to bring
into the studio. These tracks were recorded by Hibbert around this time for
Winston Jones, the original singer and composer of Stop That Train (later
made world-famous by Keith & Tex's version) with his Spanishtonians for
Prince Buster's label in the early 1960s. Jones had moved from JA to NYC in
the early 1970s where he established and ran the Flames label. The imprint
would go on to form a core part of Brooklyn's reggae scene from the mid-1970s
until the early 1990s, though Jones often employed the use of Channel One,
Hibbert and The Revolutionaries back home in the recording of rhythm tracks
for his productions. Thus the Meditation in Dub LP is essentially formed of
stellar dub versions to many of the early Flames labels 45s, produced and
released by Jones throughout the mid to late 1970s, including crucial takes
on a great many popular rhythms of that period. One of any self-respecting
dub LP collectors' holy grails, with originals going for up to £400, it is
issued here under license from the now Texas-based Jones with the kind
assistance of Rob at DKR in sourcing the audio for this new cut |

The
seductive sounds of Portugal swing to Dark Entries on Rock Rendez Vous:
Música Moderna Portuguesa 1985-1986, a compilation of vintage Iberian synth,
wave, and postpunk gems. The legendary club Rock Rendez Vous (RRV) opened its
doors in Lisbon in 1980, heralding a new era in the Portuguese underground.
Although touring acts like Killing Joke, Danse Society, or Echo & the
Bunnymen graced its stage, RRV more vitally served as ground zero for a new
generation of Portuguese bands, one simultaneously in touch with broader
international musical movements while being invested in establishing a
national sonic identity. Rock Rendez Vous culls 9 tracks of prime Portuguese
indie tunes from the Música Moderna Portuguesa compilations released in 1985
and 1986, documenting the heyday of this movement. Jangly and brooding
postpunk gems like “Levante” from Jovem Guarda, Projecto Azul’s “New Sides,”
and Essa Entente’s “Festa Final” are well-represented here. Meanwhile, quirky
Balearic-laced synthpop gems like D. W. Art’s “Mate” or Zona Proibida’s
“Musak” add a subtly regional flare. Rock Rendez Vous: Música Moderna

Two
years after her debut on SPFDJ's Intrepid Skin, Valerie Ace is already
counted as a quickly rising voice in techno, her work featuring on Anetha's
Mama Told Ya, Mala Adh, Haven, and more. In 2023 she founded her own Hardwon
imprint, now on its 8th release and featuring established and upcoming names
like Ryan James Ford, WTCHCRFT, and others. Now Rant & Rave offers her
third vinyl full EP, Givers & Takers, confirming her premier place in
contemporary techno. The title track starts ominous, pensively drawing
tension over a slow breakbeat as busy percussion patterns interlock, leading
into its intense second half, where heavy bass doubles down and pushes to a
bruising climax. 'Eat Dirt' takes after its title, grinding faces into grit
as it switches between breaks and straight sections while pounding the floor
into submission. 'A Moment Lost' loses no time charging out of the gates,
ratcheting tension with quickly evolving snares, the filtered bass punches
driving the track over steadier, atmospheric background sounds. The afternoon
or afterhours vibe of '3PM' is accentuated by seasick synth layers contrasted
against malignant drums, unsure if the drugs are wearing off or kicking back

Moonworks are reissuing a highly sought-after UK house 12” from The
Outsiders, originally from 1995. The Outsiders’ Beyond The Ego EP is a lost
London gem born from the UK capital’s rich musical heritage and the
transatlantic influence of deep house. Produced by two close friends Mark
Mellor and Paul Murphy within 48 hours in their Westbourne Grove home studio,
its fusion of US house production techniques with a myriad of UK influences
has cemented its status as a timeless and unique treasure. The record
received few plaudits on release but has since become a sought-after
underground rarity, with scarce original copies trading hands for hefty
prices. Whether you draw for the euphoric Warp Factor 9 Mix, the stripped
back Ego Dub or the sun-kissed grooves of Do Dat Scat and Shu Bop, the record

Inspired by his first bought
techno vinyls back in the late 90s, TWR72 crafted his new project for OOM
Records. Titled "iOi", it symbolizes a drum, with the 'i's as
arms/hands or sticks and the 'O' as the drum itself. Each of the ten tracks
boasts its own title, yet when the initial letters are combined, they spell
out 'percussion.' Drums and percussion have long been pivotal to the essence
of music, evolving from primitive beginnings to intricate forms. Their
significance spans cultures worldwide, each with its own rich narrative. In
techno, percussion is key, capable of moving listeners without other
instruments. The late 90s and early 20s witnessed a surge of
percussion-driven techno, enduring as timeless and functional pieces still
embraced today. Yet, this enchantment has only been fleetingly replicated in

gradually eases you into Shadowplay, before a retrospective melody echoes
around an uncertain soundscape. Light breaks and pads develop the vibe before
the track transforms as the unmistakable Demon's Theme break returns,
superbly crafted rolling amens taking you right back to 1992 in ASC's
expertly executed, inimitable Spatial style. A2 - Lacuna: Crisp, sharp breaks
open Lacuna in rampant stuttering style, a sci-fi aura riddling this detailed
piece with hi hats and machine gun kicks, quickly conjuring a suspenseful
intrigue alongside constant pads and epic effects. Driven by deep sub bass
and a haunting melody that captivates the listener, long cymbals and
synthwork continue before the second half of the track deepens further before
the breaks subside for a lush, calming outro. AA1 - Dimensions: ASC delivers
a stunning, deeply atmospheric track with Dimensions, introduced by swathes
of elegant synthwork before the Hot Pants breaks begin, chopped elegantly
while a heavy bassline drops and the coloured soundscape whooshes and swirls
as yearning vocals reverberate. After a sullen breakdown the breaks return
and switch up to a rolling 2-step pattern which will leave you and your dancefloor
drifting to another realm. AA2 - Southern Cross: Closing the EP we have
Southern Cross, a pensive number with a delicate, intricate selection of
breaks - refined with exquisite clarity - set to washes of pads and synths
across the mix. ASC utilises a simple high note melody to punctuate
proceedings over the swirling atmospherics and breaks, creating a subtle
ghostly feel to the track - perfect for a mid set direction shift or an

One continues to visit some classic Never On Sunday tracks with a second
installment of their Messages From The Mothership series. This latest
12" finds the pair release two different Mothership mixes of 'The
Bearer' and 'Contemplate'. The pioneering Detroit brothers have shown a
different side to their sound with the Never On Sunday project, both back
when it was devised in the early nineties, and more recently when they have
looked back over some of the project's key tracks and added a contemporary
spin to them. Already this year the Burden Brothers have offered up new takes
on 'Price We Pay' and 'A Better Tomorrow' as well as dropping brand new cut
'Mirror Image' and now their fine form continues on this latest release on
their own 430 West label. The A-side features a new Mothership Remix of
'Contemplate' from 2022 that unfolds over an epic 11 minutes of enthralling
deep techno. The synths bring classic Detroit soul and the impassioned vocals
layer in emotion to the sleek, compelling drums. The Instruments Version
strips out the vocals and places more focus on the sublime rhythm and drums.
On the B-side, ' The Bearer' from the 2023 album Never On Sunday gets a fresh
Mothership Dub. It is another masterful and almost 12-minute journey that
rides on compelling drums and is lit up with a majestic vocal that soars up
high while the warm, dubby undercurrents keep things moving in dynamic
fashion and smeared cosmic synths bring a great sense of scale. A Mothership
