to date, which sees the band veer in an ever more adventurous direction>
more aggressive, extroverted and raw. Recorded with producer Rory Attwell,
who worked on both of their previous albums. Dan Moss ex/plains> "We
deliberately booked very little time in the studio, and we pretty much did
everything live - there was no trying to fix any mistakes. What you hear is
very close to what we did in that moment" There's the psychedelic snarl
of "Haunted Wheelchair" built around dissonant, jazz/like chords,
the no/wave party vibe of "Suitcase Jimmy", "Hey! Buddy"
/ an "unintentionally mean/spirited" askew pop tune from the point
of view of an over/zealous fan of the band. "Cable St. Blues" is an
odd duet between two parts of the psyche ending " like a New Orleans
jazz funeral". "Hot Sauce" is led by a groovy, capacious
bassline, while "Armchair Theatre"starts out like a soft rock
classic and turns in to a gorgeously mournful song with the lyric "I
took you to the park & kickin' through used Johnnies and dry
leaves". And "Welcome to Usk" draws on Ennio Morricone's
spaghetti western soundtracks A dark, howling, ragged storm of an album,
impossible to cate/gorise, Vanilla is anything but - a far cry from the
bland, unimaginative music that pervades the airwaves. It is a brittle,
brilliant new chapter in the story of a band who never fail to surprise |

Infamous
Nymphs front woman Inger Lorre celebrates how vital her songs still sound
today, with a live recording of a sold/out show at the legendary Viper Room.
The set includes classic Nymphs tracks, ad ^ Damned', ode to a serial killer
¶he Highway' and the mourning swirl of mitating Angels' and of a cover The
Banshees onitor'. This live album is raw and primal< tribal, glamorous,
witch/y, grunge/y, punk. Inger states, "These songs are the sound of me
walking through fire." Lorre's cult following has grown in strength of
late, with the seminal self/titled debut album re issued by Rock Candy
Records and 2 new songs released for Record Store Day. Encouraged by the
interest she is recording a new album, tentatively planned for an autumn
release. Often seen as musician's musician and having worked with the likes
of Iggy Pop and Henry Rollins, sadly Inger's notoriety often eclipsed her
darkly beautiful music. Haunted by the infamy of a band that burned brightly
all too briefly, before imploding in a devastation of bereavement, addiction,

Suburbia sought to capture the teenage angst, alienation and soul-searching
of the Los Angeles punk scene, the long-sought soundtrack a big part of its

new material in 2 years. "A zone of silence and of pure possibilities
for a new beginning." Burn the past. Reset the clocks. A symphony in
three parts. "The initial idea for 'Zero Triptych' goes back almost
three years, when we first became aware of the Group Zero art movement. Not
only did I think it was the best name for a group of artists I'd ever heard,
but their ideas, outlook and, most importantly, work struck a chord with me,
which I then shared with the band. We've been inspired ever since. Not quite
a conventional 'song', nor EP, we knew about a year and a half ago that this
piece of music was evolving into something not conventionally defined in the
classic rock/pop vernacular. It's essentially three different sections intertwined,
hence the 'triptych'., I don't think this is something we'd have ordinarily
tried were it not for the confidence we gained from touring a new line-up
around Europe, when we learned to be a new band - that was probably our
'zero' moment. While 'Zero Triptych' is our ode to the masters of light and
shade - Mack, Piene and Uecker aka the Group Zero - it also had a very
functional role for us: it effectively cleared our path, 'zeroed out' what
had come before and reset the dials. And that's why it's the first song from
the new line-up we wanted to share with the world. There's a lot more to come

Stickered with "1972 private
press LP Produced For Reissue By Ryley Walker". The reissue of Opus III
includes illuminating liner notes from sister, Cynthia Fritz< The Knaves-
Gene Lubin< and Ryley Walker, as well as vintage photographs. Guitarist
and singer/songwriter Ryley Walker discovered the 1972 private press LP in a
Chicago record store, loved what he heard, and teamed with Tompkins Square to
produce the reissue. John Hulburt *1947/2012( was a member of legendary
mid/60-s Chi/cago garage rock band The Knaves, whose records were recently
reissued by Sundazed. Opus III showcases his exceptional talent on the
acoustic guitar. Walker writes in his liner notes, @Solo acoustic guitar
music was adopted by several in the Berkeley school and the ever expansive
roots fanatics in the South, but here in the middle of the country with harsh
winters and the land/locked prison of corn fields, it was almost destiny that
the amplifier assault of electric blues and controlled chaos of dance music came
from the South Side |

When Nina Simone signed to Colpix
in 1959 she was granted complete creative control over her music. This new
freedom gave her the ability to explore new subject areas, particularly
themes dealing with Civil Rights. Songs like "Work Song" on 1961's
Forbidden Fruit gave an inkling of the maelstrom that was to come, when she
would become a veritable force to be reckoned with, making white audiences
squirm in their seats with her harsh condemnation of American apartheid.

A
new album is finally on Drivecom. A 2xLp full of new tracks recovered and
rearrenged around 2022-23. No doubt the legacy of the past works are
represented. Some arpeggios and melody lines will remember us to sonic
landscapes from the “La Hora de las Máquinas” or “The Source” albums by Boris
Divider but with a new and refreshed production sound, for sure this will be
a must item for all the electro community and fans of the label. The album
opens with the intro track “The Way You Feel Me” a mix between electro and
synthwave with a moog bass and arpegio reminiscent of some Arpanet’s
“Wireless Internet” tracks. Then followed for the “Letters From A Sleeper”
theme. As the track’s name reflects, it's a clear tribute to the synth era of
David Harrow/Anne Clarke’s “Sleeper in Metropolis” just like a reply from a
postnuclear future, with a big role carried out by the initial synthline.
Then the first slow bpm track is for “Distante” where synthlines a la
Tangerine Dream are crossed and mixed with vintage digital rhythm machine
sounds and the pattern seems to be taken from those Dire Straits’ “Money for
nothing” intro drum arrange in an infinite and repetitive way. In the B Side
“You Know What I Know” track is again showing an Arpanet-ish intro synthline
followed by a sequential prophet's arpeggio which bring us back to the old
“La hora de las máquinas” sound. Closing the first 12 inch is “Sin Mirar
Atrás”. One of the most important tracks of the album for the author. A big
dimensional and introspective track full of vintage synthlines and reverb.
Time for “Your Light” track is again here. This song was already presented
with its own reference on Drivecom. A future pure Electro classic which was
announcing the album months before.In the same side, we find another slow
tempo theme called “Recursos Infinitos” an instrumental track which
implements several synthlines that interlink themselves into an infnite
Tangerine Dream’s soundtrack that serves as a little break to the power and
darkness of “Cenital”. Electro rhythm patterns and dark arpeggio synthlines
in the vibe of Vangelis’ Blade Runner are mixed in this cold dystopian
agressive dancefloor track. Later we find the theme that gives name to the
album: “ Memories From The Dust” a slower track which mixes sounds and
melodies between “La Hora de las Máquinas“ and other 80's digital keyboard
sounds. The last track is just an outro theme called “Out of Sync”. Its name
is a clear statement of its own musical arrangement, synthlines are full out
of timing and synchro, it was recorded in realtime from a modular synth to a
digital device in one take |

Rytm II' release alongside some of the industry's most iconic artists, Steve
Redhead is back on Mutual Rytm, taking over the label from SHDW & Obscure
Shape with a 6-track solo EP delivering driving, furious and old-school
influenced techno. The eleventh installment of Mutual Rytm opens with the
rolling grooves and choppy vocals of 'Blokhut', which flows smoothly into the
highly effective drums and strings of 'Sea Choy', while 'Bruusk' closes the
first side of the vinyl with a hypnotic, well-crafted 90s influenced techno
anthem. On the flip side, the title track 'Eastbook Isle' is all about its
rolling bassline, retro/electro influences and a mesmerizing melody, while on
the B2 'Planet Phatt' closes the record perfectly with a classic old-school
sounding cut, made to be the last track of the set or those early morning
moments. Last but not least is the digital bonus track 'Monster Madness' and
as the name implies it is the hardest of the bunch, with aggressive late
night grooves wrapped in deep, repetitive and
evocative chords. Undoubtedly one of his best works to date, the Belgian
producer keeps up the good work with his second appearance on the label in the

Redhead returns to Mutual Rytm with second searing EP, 'Cosmic Alchemy'.
Belgium pioneer Steve Redhead is the founder of Reda Recordings and has spent
his life immersed in techno. His potent take on the genre has appeared on
labels like MB Elektronics, Zync, and Primate and has helped define the sound
of the underground within his home country over the last 25 years. Returning
to SHDW's Mutual Rytm imprint following his well-received 'Eastbook Isle' EP
last year, he's back to impress again as he uncovers six new productions with
his latest EP, 'Cosmic Alchemy'. He shows his class from the off here with
opener 'Sincfala', bringing the heat with banging drums and rusty percussive
loops. Yelping vocals add raved-up intensity, while 'Rapidshare' is energetic
and loopy with funky drum patterns and loose-limbed percussive madness. The
fantastic 'Ad Valvas' is another straight-up linear banger with tightly woven
drums, percussion and lithe synth lines that take you to the heart of the
dance floor and 'Nusakan' is a muscular wall of drums and toms with urgent
synth stabs powering it forwards with great intensity. 'Asmodeus' brings a
more zoned-out feel with soulful pads and subtle vocals layered over the
elastic drums and bass, before digital bonus 'Voice Incident' delivers
another perfectly textural techno workout with melancholic motifs and surging

For
our release number 073 we go hard and strong with the mysterious combo El
Joven Prisionero. They come back home, ten releases after their Sesiones
Mercurio EP. The formula is again direct to the floor with no roundabouts,
strong percussive elements and direct sonic aggresion provided at a high
tempo rate. Tactel opens fire with an enourmous bass drum spiced with stereo
panned high frequencies, shuffled hats add tenstion to the equation while
micro drones and processed textures do the rest. A perfect shot to demolish
some club roofs around the globe. Second bullet is Kinki, hypnosis is the key
here, starting with the whole groove from bar one, then growing in intensity
with different sound layers all served in a continuous and progressive
arrangement. This one is for the mind and the body. Anti Tu combines scifi
vibes with heavy duty drums in an elastic tool for skilled mixers out therem
setting the pace to the next exercise, La Raya where asymmetric Fm sequences
bring the funk, again over a superb drum programming workout. Digital bonus
is Sin el Groove, drastically reducing the BPM rate, using Fm synths again
for the sequences, closing this aerobic session in an exhausted mood |
