grails' of 1960s Cuban music was not recorded, produced or released in Havana

Motorists' second album had a
lengthy gestation period, written in the year following their 2021
self-produced debut, Surrounded, which Allmusic described as "an
abundance of thoughtfully arranged hooks." In the six months leading to
their recording sessions for Touched By The Stuff, the band picked up the
pace, with both Learoyd and Fahner barely sneaking songs under the wire.
Instrumentals were recorded live off the floor, before the trio ran wild with
overdubs, weaving organs, vibraphones, and handclaps into their mellifluous
harmonies. Inspired by the big shiny tunes flooding FM radio airwaves in the
1990s, Toronto trio Motorists go full throttle on their sophomore album. Now
propelled by powerhouse drummer Nick Mckinlay, guitarist Craig Fahner and

collection of 18 rare disco tracks from Yugoslavia. Compiled by Leri Ahel
& Zeljko Luketic from original master tapes. Fox & His Friends label
owners Ahel & Luketic selected obscure 7'' singles, b-sides, out-of-print
releases and digged deep into the vaults of Jugoton to tell the story of how
disco infiltrated clubs and pop music. This compilation is vinyl counterpart
to their pioneering research and work in two major exhibitions tracing roots,
influences and social significance of disco in music, fashion and design held
in 2015 in Klovicevi Dvori Museum and HDD Gallery in Zagreb. "Socialist
Disco - Dancing Behind Yugoslavia's Velvet Curtain 1977-1987" double
gatefold LP with extensive liner notes contains tunes from KIM Band, Gabi
Novak, Arian, Ljupka Dimitrovska, Ana Sasso, Moni Kovacic, Milka Lenac, Rok
Hotel, Ivica Surjak, Grupa ST, Nano Prsa and many more in various sub-genres
including classical orchestrated disco, dance reworkings of international
chart hits and synth-filled italo-disco stompers performed by Yugoslavian
music stars, fashion models and even sports and football heroes. Disco, a
vital Trojan horse (in local notion: a pop music you can dance to), stayed
quite a long time In Yugoslavia, refusing to be silenced and refusing to jump
into the bandwagon of expected. It was influenced by American and European
disco sound, for example, by the Boney M, Amanda Lear or Love Machine, who
all visited Yugoslavia and had live concerts. The producers and the big
record companies like Jugoton, PGP RTB, Diskoton or ZKP RTVL, noted the hype
in music and they constantly probed the market with limited run of seven
inchers or special performances. Some artists were quite successful, but the
rest were in the 7'' single empire which was free enough to experiment with
all things disco had to offer - genre hybrids, use of electronics, sexual
innuendo, bizarre lyrics and most importantly, great musicians and major
composers having fun. The no-restrictions policy of disco was there to evade
the rules and surely it did |

The
Belgian pianist and producer maya dhondt releases a new album titled 'wow,
x', marking her debut solo album under her own name. Navigating between
bedroom glitch-pop and contemporary piano, she presents sounds of alienating
beauty. “I find beauty in the uncomfortable and disorienting" - maya
dhont. The first single, 'desire,' is a mutated synth-pop track that gets
under the skin. The song centralizes longing for something you don't know
(yet). Perhaps it's the smell of damp earth, which can be both pleasant and
unsettling? The single is now available on all streaming platforms and comes
with a schizophrenic video by Sakis Brönnimann. The first release show is
scheduled for Saturday, October 5, at De Koer, Ghent. More shows will be
announced soon. A postmodern cramp, that's how one could describe the music
of pianist and producer maya dhondt. Her music is an intuitive and a never
ending exploration that has the potential to be and become a multitude of
things at once. On her first solo album under her own name, 'wow, x,' she
presents 10 varied tracks in which she creates equally idiosyncratic sound
worlds. She takes the liberty to endlessly experiment with vocals, piano, and
a mix of distorted lo-fi electronic sounds with an open mind. The result is
sometimes synthetic and weird, sometimes compellingly beautiful, and always
captivating, drawing you into its underlying melody. These intelligently
crafted productions are connected by a penchant for alienating beauty: like a
warm, but damp cave where it’s pleasant to linger just a little longer. Her
original sound moves within a sonic spectrum reminiscent of contemporary

"What I create never stands alone, it can be many things at once"
If the world were a sculpture garden, maya dhondt eagerly picks from it to
draw inspiration from both visual and literary passages as well as personal
experiences. Her highly personal bedroom productions are grounded firmly in
the world due to philosophical references and politically charged messages.
And the world she lives in is being questioned on 'wow, x', as the title
refers to "What Or Why?". This is evident in the single 'desire':
"What is the thing that matters / to exist / or to know you’re
existing?" What does one choose in life: to live in the moment or to
live to remember that moment? In the lyrics on 'wow, x', maya dhondt plays -
at times childishly - with language and its boundaries. On 'tip toe tip,'
banal wordplay leads to an unexpected confession, and the seemingly simple
phrases in 'untitled' conceal hidden life lessons. dhondt's world of words is
multilayered and multilingual: Dutch ('kleine cijfers, groot verlies'),
English ('desire'), and French ('untitled') are at her disposal. And on the
fierce track that is 'minimalinvasiv,' not only she turns to hardstyle, but
also to German - a language dear to her due to her Swiss heritage |

This
album takes you back to Colombia of the 50s and 60s. In those days, the
tropical music of the Caribbean and Pacific coasts took over the country's
mainland music scene by storm. One of the key figures during this period was
Edmundo Arias. Together with Lucho Bermúdez and Pacho Galán, Arias is seen as
one of the ‘big three’ composers of Colombian tropical music. He was a rather
introverted person who avoided being in the spotlight at all cost, leading to
his work being less known than his contemporaries. With this album we hope to
highlight the amazing legacy Edmundo Arias has left us. Think of big bands
with sharp dressed musicians playing the finest cumbias, porros and other
tropical sounds in fancy ballrooms on a hot evening in Medellin or Bogota.
Liner notes: Edmundo Dante Arias Valencia was born in Tuluá, Valle del Cauca,
on the 5th of November 1925. He came from a family of musicians. His father,
Joaquín Arias Cardoza was a band leader and composer who taught his children
to play music. Arias learned to play many instruments such as the guitar,
bass, bandola (pear shaped string instrument related to the mandolin), tiple
(12 string guitar), clarinet and saxophone. He proved to be a very talented
musician and together with his father and his older brother Ricaurte he
formed the ‘Trio Arias’. The family lived in different cities across Colombia
depending on where they found work. When his father died unexpectedly in
1948, Edmundo and Ricaurte had to support their family working as musicians. In
1951, Arias decided to move to Medellín, in those days the heart of the
Colombian music industry and the city where the most important record
companies and the best musicians were based. It didn’t take long before Arias
made a name for himself as a musician, composer, arranger and band leader for
Colombia’s leading labels at the time; Zeida, Ondina, Silver and Sonolux. For
the latter, he would eventually become the artistic director. Over the years,
he wrote hundreds of songs, recorded many albums with his own orchestras or
with the Orquesta Sonolux and collaborated with a countless number of
musicians, often uncredited. Together with Lucho Bermúdez and Pacho Galán,
Edmundo Arias is seen as one of the ‘big three’ composers of the tropical
music of Colombia. But despite the fact that Arias was renowned, very little
is known about his personal life. He was a humble man who preferred to work
in the background and avoided being in the spotlight at all cost. He declined
interviews and kept away from public life. On some live performances of the
orchestra that carried his name, Arias asked one of his musicians to pretend
to be him, so that he wouldn’t have to come on stage. You might think that
Arias was shy or anti-social, but this was not the case. Most people he
worked with described him as a very jovial, good humoured person and enjoyed
working with him. His invisibility in public life belied how present he was
behind the scenes. If he wasn’t working on his own productions, he was
regularly collaborating with other musicians. Arias had his hand in the work
of many of his colleagues and was a mentor for young artists. Some even say
that in those days all the musicians in Medellín had worked with Arias in one
way or the other. He had a strict working regime: composing, arranging and
recording at night while sleeping during the day. He was also very
productive. The story goes that on one occasion, he wrote arrangements for a
16 piece band in just a few minutes while the band was recording another song.
His hard work and productiveness resulted in hundreds of compositions and
many records that carry his name. Edmundo Arias’ career ran over 6 decades
until his death on the 29th of January 1993. Over the years, he left us a
huge legacy. The songs on this record are a selection of his work during the
50s and 60s. Many see this period as the absolute highlight of his career. We
picked out the songs we consider to be the most outstanding recordings from
this period. The title of this compilation Guepa Je! is Colombian slang often
used in cumbia to express joy or to celebrate. A free translation would
result into something like ‘yeah’, ’let’s go’ or ‘groovy’. I guess this title says enough. Enjoy the

Kool Menthol. That's the name
redolent of night and nicotine from Il Est Vilaine's new EP, featuring 4
tracks that send shivers down the spine and warm the body. The eponymous
single unfolds like an infectious groove worthy of an 80s Tokyo nightclub.
Moreover, it's still the illustrator Apollo Thomas who signs the group's
artworks, tinting their universe with an irresistible Japanese touch.
Orientalism? Not entirely, as evidenced by "Revenge," which sounds
more like the soundtrack of an electric western, and "Quetzacoatl,"
falsely tropical, incantatory, and metallic, rising like a Raëlian mantra in
the after-hours. "Ramassama," on the other hand, feels like a chase
scene from an Italian horror film with a slightly dazed Dario Argento. In
short, the two rascals from Il Est Vilaine reaffirm their stamp of cowboy
clubbers with this disco-like EP where there always remains a strong rock
undertone |

"Dekmantel Ten is a mirror of Dekmantel Festival. The 7x12" boxset
includes seven records that mirror the seven stages to be found at the 2024
event, their 10th edition since 2013. The tracklisting isn't rigid — some of
the musicians gathered here have in fact played at most of the available
stages — but like a Möbius strip looping round, or a cat-and-mouse game, it's
not hard to discern a symbiotic relationship. Split seven ways, DKMNTL100 is
a testament to the art of curation and the importance of quality control. At
artist level, Dekmantel Ten finds room for several artists — including
Karenn, Jeff Mills and Marcel Dettmann — who played at the very first Dekmantel
Festival in 2013, and are by now impossible to detach. The Loop's disc
contains names whose stories have dovetailed alongside the festival,
concluding in memorable headline moments: Young Marco, Palms Trax and
Alchemical Sisters, aka Eris Drew and Octo Octa. Widen the lens and you'll
find history from across the landscape: the laboratories of professorial
techno (Dasha Rush, Steve Rachmad, DJ Nobu) and gilded halls of house
(Steffi, Luca Lozano, Bufiman); varied soundsystem icons (Kode9, Adrian Sherwood,

began our journey in 2021 with the release of Luke Sanger's Languid Gongue.
Now, three years later, weturn an important corner as the Norfolk musician
rejoins us with Dew Point Harmonics, the first repeatappearance on the label.
Sanger's new album feels like a natural extension of his inaugural record for
Balmat: It's a bewitching collection of esoteric synth sketches that slips
unpredictably between consonant repetition, poignant melodies, and gnarled
bursts of noise that catch in the ear like burrs in hiking socks. That
natural metaphor is perhaps not accidental. Despite having been composed on
Sanger's diverse array of hardware and self-written software, many of the
tracks were first conceived while Sanger was hiking in a particularly wild and
isolated section of the Norfolk coast. The field recording that opens the
album, on "6am Beach Walk," was taken on one of his many
early-morning walks there, in which he and his dog might go for miles without
seeing another soul. The album's title was inspired by the overnight
condensation covering the long marram grass in the dunes, glistening in the
early light (and drenching everything coming in contact with it) before
evaporating in the morning sun. Indeed, the concept of dew point--the temperature
at which water vapor condenses into a liquid--feels like the perfect metaphor
for Sanger's music, in which foggy ambience is distilled into glistening
quicksilver orbs, transient spheres of perfection eventually absorbed back
into the atmosphere. A shapeshifting collection of richly detailed and deeply
expressive electronic miniatures, Dew Point Harmonics is both a testament to
the mysteries of transformation and an invitation to get lost in the
wilderness of your own imagination |

this brand new chapter in the highly acclaimed Wamono series, DJ Chintam goes
digging into the vaults of one of the most revered Japanese labels, Trio
Records, and unearths some killer drum breaks, dope bass lines and funky
horns, for an essential selection of jazz funk fusion and rare groove vibes
produced on Trio between 1973 and 1981! 180g heavy vinyl pressing, reverse

by Jukka Sarapää at Timmion Cutting Lab, Helsinki, Finland. Signature artwork
by Yoxxx. After many years working as a buyer for several record stores, DJ
Chintam opened his own Blow Up shop in 2018 in Tokyo's Shibuya district. A
member of the Dayjam Crew and a specialist of soul, funk, rare groove and disco
music, Chintam is also an expert of the home-brewed Wamono grooves. He
supervised and wrote the legendary Wamono A to Z records guide book together
with DJ Yoshizawa Dynamite. For this brand new chapter in the highly
acclaimed Wamono series, our man Chintam goes digging into the vaults of one
of the most revered Japanese labels: Trio Records. Established in 1969 by
audio manufacturer Trio Electronics, now known as Kenwood, the label - and
its subsidiaries such as Showboat and Trash - released high quality music
spanning a large variety of genres including rock, jazz, fusion, soundtracks
and popular songs, until its end in 1984. Through the eight tracks selected
here, Chintam unearths some dope drum breaks, heavy bass lines and funky
horns, for an essential selection of jazz funk fusion and rare groove vibes
produced on Trio between 1973 and 1981. Put the needle on the record, turn up

Through
X Scroll Era, Gabo Barranco, aka AAAA, conducts a rigorous overhaul of the
aesthetics and statements of low-profile IDM, trance, and progressive-acid
music typical of the early 2000?s. In addition to this inherent and
undeniable veneration for the era, the pieces on this album ? which
originated from recordings and experimental exercises with gear and
accidentally became an album ? serve also as a kind of retrospective
inspection of Mexico City's suburbs (Lomas de Sotelo), with landscapes full of
indiscriminate concrete, highways of two and three levels, factories, and
parking lots that have supplanted nature with their own detached beauty. It
is a sound memory, a specific melancholy that praises skate squads of the
area, friends from the past, parties, and substances. It reviews the decline
of rave culture but also its resilience and capacity for transformation. What
AAAA offers us with X Scroll Era is an almost multigenerational soundtrack, a
memory that feels collective and recollects euphoria, ecstasy, and nostalgia.

With
eight fresh tracks for the modern dance floor, Token writes another chapter
of the Fuga series. Challenging new faces to complete the label's sound, Fuga
V is another focused compilation that balances spatial detail and rhythmic
bite. Bubbly yet cosmic synth work opens the VA convincingly, a record for
true Token fans. Dissonance, delay, slithering pads, and the occasional
thundering 909 clap make 'Partenope' by Singular Anomalies an obvious choice
as an opening, retaining the label's original sound with a nice twist. With
Singular Anomalies staying light on rhythm, Ketchquickly turns up the
intensity with his contribution 'Whispers'. Plowing through the ambiance with
a heavy kick, the producer lines up a track of percussive melodic harmony
with a moody groove. The followup by Justyn Nell, 'Amaranth' employs a
classic, distorted bassline that runs persistently throughout the track with
playful 909 work for the drums. A full force club controller now passed, the
followup by DHÆÜR delves back into vast open spaces for a close-eyed, mental
experience. 'Sculpting the Mind', appropriately named, breathes through with
opening and closing background textures along a loopy lead. The introspective
quality of this track is continued by Maasym, who takes things in an almost
tribal direction with hypnotic wooden textures. 'Intermediate Direction' is a
progressive addition to this edition of Fuga that serves as a dancefloor
brain-soother. Taking things back to the roots with some old school machine
work, we have 'Black Hole'by Ray Kaijoka. A nice psychotic arp leads the
listener along into a surprisingly melodic arrangement supported by
infectious drums, all of which is expertly crafted for club movement. Taking
a dive, Kameliia gives us 'Point of View' which boasts a powerfully round
low-end and an intense progression with far off strings that add a warm
cinematic feel. Serious and effective, 'Point of View' is a track
communicating tone and mediation. To close Fuga V, the dup Kashpitzky &
Casual Treatment take matters into their own hands with a very high intensity
record 'Diffusion'. Huge cut transitions, saturated drums pushing the limit
with a loud clap, and laser-like lead make for an impressive last chapter of
Fuga V |

Pianist and composer Bas Bulteel
turns his gaze inward after a successful track record as leader of the
adventurous energy bomb Wasdaman and as inspirer of his own trio, with which
he won the 2014 Klara Music Prize for best CD in the jazz category for the
album Coming Home, his debut as a bandleader. Bas went into residency with
visual artist Jan Frederik De Cock which resulted in a unique collaboration
where image and sound dialogue with each other, feeding off each other,
cursing against each other, loving each other... The result has become a
profound and layered solo piano record that showcases Bas' versatility as a

label Artreform Records is ready to treat you to a tasty new EP by the
long-established chef Roy Brizman. His new release, Tomorrow Is A New Day,
looks well-prepped for repeating the success of Midnight Tales, the previous
Artreform offering by Brizman from 2021. Brizman is a star of the Israeli
electronic scene. Roy is also known as Gel Abril in Tel Aviv and far beyond.
He has been in great creative form lately, releasing many new tracks and
remixes his latest twist on Depeche Modes Policy of Truth" is just one
example. Roy offers three new tracks in one sitting this time-a triad united
by an overarching mood and atmosphere. It's the perfect soundtrack for diving

release from Vibes Addikt, the two versions of N.O.B.A, which were initially
available digitally on Dolma Records, make their debut on vinyl, accompanied
by two new remixes from the Dutch duo Rakkatack, known for their dynamic
style and their work with labels like DSR Digital, Elektrax, and Eclipse
Recordings. Joining them are the legendary Filterheadz, celebrated for their
iconic track "Sunshine" on Carl Cox's renowned label Intec, along
with collaborations like "Tribalicious" on N.E.W.S and
"Ymanya" on ID&T. Sometimes, all it takes to create a hit that
leaves a lasting impact for a decade is a remix. This latest offering from
Vibes Addikt reimagines a classic that was played at Tomorrowland by
Charlotte De Witte when the first remix of N.O.B.A was released in the summer
of 2019. The track has also been remixed by Dyen, Sandro Silva, and Sara
Krin. Two years later, in 2021, he introduced the second remix of
"Attention," infusing it with added dynamism, which garnered even
greater support from artists like Klaudia Gawlas, Thomas Schumacher, Yves
Deruyter, David Forbes, Sebastian Mora, Dok & Martin, and Joyhauser. The
original producers of the track "Attention" are SHADYM & DOLBY
D, released under Dolby D's label, Dolma Records. In this fourth release from
