JJ And the A's offer up their
second release with four new songs to work their way into your earholes. Not
lost on this recording is the band's hardcore delivery mixed with KBD
undercurrents from the first EP. They have added a hint of melody in these songs
which harkens back to early SoCal punk à la T.S.O.L., Adolescents, and Red
Cross. Through the wash of sound the organ soaked in fuzz makes me think they
could have been listening to Electric Prunes or Oblivions sloshing around in
some drunken party thinking up riffs. The soulful vocals are modern in the
delivery, but also reminiscent of garage favorites Detroit Cobras in depth
and character. The end result is a mashup of punk, garage, and underlying
hardcore that is electrifying, raucous, and instantly enjoyable |

Shaun Hencher who may well have appeared in your life before with Lovvers,
Kamikarzee, Tera Tora, The Murder of Rosa Luxembourg or a plethora of
influential bands prior to that. However both Magic Happens and Comes The Night
brim with a sense of effortless melody that kinda reminds us of The Nerves or
something, brash, infectious, FUN. all the everything that a fine pop song
should be. These songs will lodge themselves into your brain.in the best
possible way. Magic Happens and Come The Night were written and recorded
throughout the Summer 2011 in his hometown of Worcester with Shaun performing
everything on there (except drums). He also designed the artwork too, which

Reissued
for the first time outside of Brazil, Todos Os Olhos is one of the most
important Brazilian records of all time. Tom Zé is considered the most
"paulista" of all Tropicalistas. He came from Bahia, but his wry
urban poetry, infused with the uncomfortable sounds of the largest metropolis
of South America, is pure Sao Paulo. The tracks "Complexo de
Epico", "Cademar", "Um "OH" e um
"AH"", "Augusta, Angelica e Consolacao" and "O
Riso e a Faca were included in "Brazil Classics 4: The Best Of Tom
Zé", compiled by David Byrne and released by Luaka Bop in 1990. This
reissue includes unseen photos, new testimonials from Tom Ze' himself and a
lengthy article signed by Bento Araujo, author of the book series Lindo Sonho
Delirante. Todos os Olhos is one of the most emblematic and essential records
of the confrontational music of Brazil. By denouncing, criticizing, and
mocking the trend of "heroes" who made "protest music" at
the time, Tom Ze' signed his eremitic letter of exclusion but not without
"contest the contestation". Excommunicated from the MPB and even
from Tropicalia, in Todos os Olhos Tom Ze' presented, with a lot of courage,
an unusualway of fight Brazil's military dictatorship. All that would be
later triggered in Tom Ze's career is here, always ready for a new
rediscovery |

This
was the website description of this record: Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie
Nicks didn’t just emerge out of complete obscurity when they joined Fleetwood
Mac in 1975. The pair had previously released their only studio album
together in September 1973. As a complement to that record, a series of demos
recorded by the duo also exist, often titled the Coffee Plant Demos. The two
were writing songs together and recording at night in Daly City on a
half-inch four-track Ampex tape machine, which Buckingham kept at the coffee
roasting plant belonging to his father. There isn’t a single song on the tape
which features on the Buckingham Nicks album, so this set of very strong
material can be seen as the de-facto Buckingham Nicks debut. Also featured
here, are the Cathouse Blues Demos, recorded by Nicks in the early 70s
without Buckingham. Again this material is wonderfully well-crafted, with
certain songs later seeing the light of day as either Fleetwood Mac tracks,
or on Stevie’s solo albums as fully formed studio versions. These recordings
remain cherished among fans as a rare treasure, offering a glimpse into the
early days of two iconic musicians before they embarked on their legendary
careers with Fleetwood Mac. These demos serve as a testament to the artistic
chemistry of the duo |

Originally released in 1980, this
was Stiv Bators' first solo album. Now reissued with 2 bonus tracks, not
available on the original version, a slightly different picture on the cover
(the actual unfiltered photo as used on the 1980 issue) and a booklet with
extensive liner notes and photos. Bators was the man who destroyed Rocket
from the Tombs, from which he hijacked half the members to found one of the
most influential American punk bands to have existed, The Dead Boys. Stiv had
turned in his broken teeth for a more power pop oriented solo career. This is
not an album recorded by a has-been former punk idealist; instead it's a true
step forward into another unknown arena packing all the glare and attitude
that remained from the last. The music is more similar to 60's power pop than
the vicious punk rock that Bators became known for originally, while a member
of The Dead Boys. New generations continue to discover it. It still holds up
very well and sounds as fresh and vibrant as ever |

After
recent explorations into ambient and pop under his full name, Sacha Renkas
switches back to his Antenna moniker for ALT013. The Kiev-born, longtime
Rotterdam-based artist uses a rough-around-the-edges, hiss-laden palette to
construct his intricate, pensive club tracks. Often recording on the fly, he
embraces the limitations and quirks of the hardware he works with, curating
the happy accidents that come with them and that help make his music feel as
alive as it does. It is emotional and imaginative in spirit, yet raw, almost
instinctive in its rendering. Renkas cites the new wave and synth-pop from
his youth and the sounds coming from Chicago and Detroit, as well as the
Dutch West Coast he encountered later on, as inspirations. The sensitivity and
hands-on approach associated with these are also tenets throughout his work.
The "Another Wave EP," a selection of tracks created over nearly a
decade, further substantiates this approach. Made on multiple MPCs, Juno
synthesizers, and an Akai S900, and mixed on a Mackie 16-channel mixer, it
blends, among others, elements of first-wave techno and European
proto-trance. Opener "Alisa" stacks angular sine melodies and
formant basslines one upon another yet flows like silk, its balance
immaculately kept in check. On "Everyone M1," the bass organ patch
from which the track derives its title finds itself amidst a lo-fi flux of
capricious arpeggiators, ethereal pads, and decocted drums. "Another
Wave" is a carefully sculpted slow burner, collected in its unfolding.
Wisps of melody, gated pads, and whisper seem to wind between its drum
patterns; the tension looming beneath this patchwork never entirely reveals
itself. "Quasar" blends signature dramatic chords and off-rhythm
bells with a creeping acid bassline and more kaleidoscopic drum patterns. It
closes an EP distilled in its form, confident in its intent, and nowhere too
bothered by genre boundaries or other formal constraints |

Formed in 1988 in Santiago (after
a stint under the name Pestilence), DEATH YELL played thrashing death metal
with a manic intensity with clear influences from Brazilian maniacs such as
SARCOFAGO, SEXTRASH and MUTILATOR, with a punk energy that brings to mind
EXTREME NOISE TERROR and the UK grind scene. Instrumentally proficient and
sonically violent, DEATH YELL creates a controlled chaos that marries its
deathrash roots with a macabre, funerary atmosphere replete with sinister,
lurching organ work. "Vengeance From Darkness" was self-financed
and self-released as a cassette by the band, gaining a legendary status in
tape trading circles at the time. The prestige of this demo led to some of
its tracks being reused on a split 7" with BEHERIT via Turbo Music in
1991, and another 7" titled "Morbid Rites" on Seraphic Decay
Records in 1992. The band would remain dormant until their reactivation in
2012 |

Vanneste, succesvol muzikant én tv-maker, komt met zijn eerste eigen plaat
'Over De Helft'. Als deel van het iconische duo 'Van Echelpoel' werd het hoog
tijd voor Vanneste om zijn eigen muzikale pad te bewandelen. Tijs scoorde al
eerder met albums in functie van zijn televisiewerk: 'Hier Is Het Goed' en
'Wildgroei' maakten deel uit van zijn gelauwerde televisieprogramma 'De
Kempen' op VRT1. Dit nieuwe project wordt gedreven door zijn persoonlijke
passie en mag gelabeld worden zoals iedereen in deze woelige tijden dat zelf
wilt: een daad van egoïsme, nakend narcisme of gewoon een uiterst hoge nood
aan een eigen creatieve uitlaatklep. 'Over De Helft' is geen toevallige
schepping, integendeel, het is een belichaming van elementen die voor Tijs
van onschatbare waarde zijn: humor, diepgang en plezier doordrenkt met
wereldwijde muzikale invloeden zoals Reggae, Dub en Slavische klanken. Zoals
we van Vanneste gewoon zijn wordt dit alles op zijn eigen hardnekkige en
eigenwijze manier van uitdrukken gepresenteerd: het authentieke en
ondertussen tot wereldtaal verheven Kempense dialect. De titel van dit
zelfverklaard meesterwerk is treffend: 'Over De Helft'. Want laat dat nu de
plek zijn waar Tijs zich bevindt: bijna 45 jaar oud en vooral erg blij met
waar hij nu voor en in het leven staat: eerlijk en rechtdoorzee. Nummers als
'Talent' en 'De Kempen' vertellen over vroeger, nu en... later. In het
allerbeste geval is 'Over De Helft' een stimulans voor zowel lichaam als
geest of op zijn minst een plaat die je doet dansen, lachen en verlangen naar
een eeuwigdurende zomer |

the leaden years are over, the socialist left is in power in France and the
first wave of punk seems a long way off. However, the youth of the day had
not said its last word, and bands were springing up all over the place, free
radio stations were opening up, fanzines were being published, concerts were
being staged on the fly and little by little a scene was forming, a motley
crew of kids in revolt, radical activists and just plain old folk passing
through. After having cut their teeth in a variety of more or less
confidential bands, in which you'd come across a good number of players from
this up-and-coming alternative scene, the members of Guernica moved up a
gear, determined to blow on the still-glowing embers of rebel rock. With the
shortage of venues the rule at the time, they began by scouring the suburban
MJCs, putting on wild concerts and eventually meeting up with the squatters
of the Couronnes commune and the members of V.I.S.A., with whom they played
an active part in organising concerts in squatted buildings in these
relegated areas of the capital. In February 1983, the V.I.S.A. association
and the Abattoir art collective (which included some members of Guernica)
organised a concert at the Usine Pali-Kao. That evening, two groups took to
the stage in succession: Guernica and a fledgling duo, Bérurier Noir. The
evening will go down in the history of alternative rock as one of the key
turning points of the period. After the departure of Loran, who played guitar
with both bands, Fabrice Benoît joined Guernica on guitar, and the gang
continued for a few more months, ending on a high note with a chaotic concert
at the Eldorado in Paris. Until now, it's been impossible to get your hands
on any of the band's recordings unless you're lucky enough to own the Paris
Mix compilation, the Guernica/Bérurier Noir split or the V.I.S.A. Usine
Cascades 1982 cassette. This vinyl, a perfect record of the era, brings
together the six tracks recorded by the band at the time |

raves, eventually inspiring them to craft their own music based on their
adventures on the dancefloor. Their studio collaboration culminated in the
creation of the remarkable record you currently hold in your hands: 'Catch
Your Ear / Meringueatang'. This two-track release, recorded in 1992, offers
forward-thinking and fresh prog-house cuts, as rare as hen's teeth and as
exhilarating as they were upon their original release over three decades ago.
Catch Your Ear was expertly engineered by Evren Omer, boss of Essex-based
techno bunker Strategy Records, while Meringueatang was helmed by Matt
Clayden, one half of M&M and Acorn Arts and the proprietor of X-Gate
Records, another stalwart in Essex's underground dance scene. 'Catch Your Ear
/ Meringueatang' remains the only musical collaboration between the duo. When
Mint Condition approached them to reissue this highly sought-after EP, both
Simon and Tony were surprised and delighted in equal measure by the

Entries returns to Mexico with Back Up Dos: Mexican Tecno Pop 1982-1989.
Following 2021’s Back Up compilation, Back Up Dos delivers 10 more tracks of
synth-pop and New Beat, 7 of which have never before appeared on vinyl. From
mutant drum machine beats to irresistible synthesizer hooks, fans of the
fringes of the 80s will find songs to stir their cold, dark hearts. But Back
Up Dos does more than mine retro kitsch; it documents the development of a
rich DIY music scene that is still underexplored. As affordable samplers and
digital synths spread throughout the decade, post-punk and new wave gave way
to more aggressive EBM and cyberpunk sounds. The scene also developed in
opposition to the political climate of the times: the rise of the drug
cartels and a reactionary turn in national politics. Using home recording
techniques, these bands took cues from the electronic wizardry of the Human
League and Wax Trax Records while reflecting the vibrant and chaotic Mexican
cultural landscape of the era. On Back Up Dos, impeccable pop anthems from
Casino Shanghai and Los Agentes Secretos sit alongside gnarled obscurities
from Ford Proco and María Bonita, showcasing a decade of sly deviance and
enthusiastic experimentation. This album comes housed in an 80s-inflected
neon sleeve designed by Gwenael Rattke and includes a 12-page booklet with
photographs, lyrics, and notes. Back Up Dos compiles synthetic music produced
in Mexico at the crossroads from Tecno Pop to Post-Industrial, nourished by

proudly announces a new collaborative mini-album from label boss Rrose and
Polygonia. Containing six tracks and over 40 minutes of music housed in a
fully printed sleeve with artwork by Jon-Paul Villegas, the record focuses
squarely on the dancefloor while infusing it with the kinds of psychoactive
drones, intricate polyrhythms, and relentless modulations that have come to
identify both of their approaches to sound. Featured heavily are their shared
interests in sonic shapes that resemble natural forms and conjure tactile
feelings, in this case related to themes of skin-like surfaces and
circulatory systems experienced simultaneously on a micro and macro level.
While several of the tracks hover in a flexible tempo range between 125 and
130 bpm, "Stretcher" reaches up to 142, and the closing track
"Vena Cava" trades the kick drums for spectrally processed
percussion and endlessly diverging high-frequency pulses. The story behind
the release starts in 2022, when Rrose reached out to Polygonia after
noticing that her tracks were appearing in their sets more frequently than
any other artist. Never before had Rrose proposed a collaboration with
someone they hadn't met before, but there was such an obvious connection in
their approach to sound that it felt necessary. As it turns out, Polygonia
had only become interested in techno after hearing Rrose perform at a
festival in 2018. It all made sense, and they began sharing sketches and
unfinished ideas with each other, trading them back and forth until they
reached completion. Without any announcement of their collaboration, the two
artists have since been asked to share the stage together several times. It
seems there are other people out there sensing a connection... RROSE: Rrose
is an alias of the multi-disciplinary artist Seth Horvitz, born and raised in
California, and currently based in London. Active since 2011, the Rrose
project explores the intersection of hypnotic techno, experimental
composition and psychoacoustic phenomena with a meticulous touch. The first
major breakthrough was 2012's "Waterfall" for Sandwell District
which followed "Motormouth Variations," a collaborative project
with composer, improviser, and activist Bob Ostertag. After the shuttering of
Sandwell District, Rrose established Eaux, a home for further solo
productions and collaborations. Building on his studies in electronic
composition and history at Mills College, Rrose's electronic pieces blur the
lines between thrillingly claustrophobic club tracks and destabilizing sound
art explorations. In 2015, she released an extended version of James Tenney's
postcard composition "Having Never Written a Note For Percussion"
for solo gong, and in 2018 collaborated with Charlemagne Palestine on
"The Goldennn Meeenn + Sheeenn" for two grand pianos. These works
overlapped with the development of Rrose's singular techno: EPs like
"Vanishing Pools," "The Ends of Weather" and "Arc
Unknown" as well as 2019's debut LP "Hymn to Moisture" and
last year's follow up "Please Touch." Rrose is also active as a
touring DJ and live performer, equally comfortable commanding sweaty
warehouse dancefloors and seated audiences in historic concert halls.
Appearances include Unsound, Atonal, Semibreve, Dekmantel, Mutek, Sonic Acts,
Nuit Sonore, Mostra, Parallel, Theatre Graslin, Nextones, and Berghain.
POLYGONIA: Polygonia represents a multidisciplinary music and art project
conceived by Lindsey Wang from Munich, Germany. She draws inspiration from
her many years of practicing various acoustic instruments and her keen
interest for other cultural forms of expression, which she translates into
the digital language of electronic music and art. Her productions' soundscape
exudes a mystical, organic quality, featuring intricate and compelling
rhythms. Polygonia's sound palette ranges from energetic, groovy Deep Techno,
Downtempo, Grey Area to textural and/or harmonic Ambient. Besides, she is not
afraid to include influences from the genres House, Drum and Bass, Electro
etc.. In addition inspiration from nature play a major role in many of her
productions. Exemplary for her style are for instance her 'Otro Mundo' EP
(2023) on Bambounou's Bambel Imprint, her 'Bloom' EP (2022) on the American
record label Sure Thing, the release 'Deformed Human Nature' (2021) on her
own label IO, as well as the album 'Abbilder einer vergessenen Welt' (2021)
on the Korean label Huinali. Her DJ and live sets too reflect her passion for
different genres. Depending on the time of day and setting, Polygonia shows a
different musical side. What unites all her dance music sets is the
hypnotizing effect that invites to completely lose oneself in the world of
sounds for a longer period of time. Several voices from the audience also
confirm that the musician always tells a complex story within her mixes,
allowing for very clear highs and lows. In the same set there can be very
harmonic passages, which provide emotional moments and on the other hand
extremely texture-heavy dark tracks, which establish a connection with the
subconscious and put the listener in a kind of trance. Polygonia has already
visited numerous of prestigious venues. She is now a regular at Tresor or
Berghain in Berlin and additionally started her residency in 2023 at
Munich-based BLITZ club |

grooving elements. Both tracks culminate in highly energetic moments distinguished
by aggressive arpeggiators and synths. "Mad Kau" is a present-day
remake of their previous 2022 release "Mad Max." It's a true
representation of how the track is played by the trio on stage, with its
iconic melody as the heartbeat of the song. It evokes moments of madness both

global talent, Iceland's Exos was last on Mutual Rytm earlier this year with
his successful 'Infrared' EP in April. The debut release on the label's new
10" vinyl X-Series, the EP picked up a wealth of high-profile plays
while delivering an absorbing journey through techno soundscapes. The release
was followed up by his 'Evil Nation' LP, exploring a harder, more intense
approach to techno on his own Planet X imprint, ext to tunes on the likes of
Figure and X/OZ. However, he returns with more skilfully crafted ammunition
across five stand-out productions and two digital bonus gems on SHDW's
burgeoning imprint for a second outing packed with his trademark sound
spanning mystic yet driving and impactful spheres. The package opens up with
'Voices Of Volcano', a powerful track with a monstrous low end and quickened
drum kicks that compel you to march in time as the twisted synths peel away
up top. 'Enter The Danger' has a steamy feel, as if racing through a humid
jungle with the sounds of bird calls and haunting voices next to the loopy
percussion and driving rhythms. The brilliant 'Icebreaker' keeps up the

been central part of the scene through the 90s and the last decades. The UK
legend spread the proper techno and electronic vibe with his solo moniker and

enthusiastic. The EP starts with the ambient skit "Subteranium",
subtle synths and textures combined with a smooth-alternate basslines keep
the listener moody and tense for an unexpected start. In Temporal Mst open up
the dances. Slightly distorted 4/4 beat track, jam-packed in No Signal style,
plucked arps well arranged for an elegant swing. Lore & Order is the
match up to lead the dancefoors and listeners into more gloomy and wicked
mood. Different sequenced synths wrap the drum groove for an hypnotic, yet

water has passed under the Zero 7 bridge since we originally issued this
collection of music. In 2002, when this was first issued, they’d recently
been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize for their brilliant debut album,
Simple Things, as well as being a nominee for Best Newcomer at the 2002 Brit
Awards. Their third album, The Garden, was nominated for a Grammy in 2007.
Since then, Zero 7 have become an active touring live band, made some
incredible music and judiciously chosen remixes, like Terry Callier’s ‘Love
Theme From Spartacus’. Their old RAK studios colleague Nigel Godrich once
told them, “Your great records become the Sistine Chapels of music in a sea
of affordable accommodation”. It’s fair to say they’ve got a few Sistines
under their belt. The selection is compilation perfection – and you seem to
agree. Such is the desirability of the original vinyl edition, it’s now
selling for over a ton. You can expect to find the Stylistics’ soul classic,
‘People Make The World Go Round’ and the rare groove bomb produced by Roy
Ayers, ‘You Can’t Turn Me Away’ by Sylvia Striplin. Don Blackman’s ‘Holding
You, Loving You’ is included. This tune was sampled by Slum Village on ‘Go
Ladies’ who also make an appearance here with ‘Jealousy’, as does Herbert’s
boompty-boomp rub of M.Gainsbourg’s ‘Bonnie & Clyde’. All of this

supergroup Secret Echoes releases debut single ‘Bring My Beat Back’ on
Crosstown Rebels. The project combining a trio of revered talents from the
Mexican electronic landscape sees Estefani Brolo, Diego Cevallos, and Marco
Anaya unite to reveal a first glimpse into their forthcoming debut album,
with the single remixed by Zombies In Miami focus on the song's hypnotic
vocals and raw emotive energy. Secret Echoes is a dynamic collaboration of
three acclaimed artists from Mexico’s electronic music scene: Estefani Brolo
(of BROLORZIO & I.M YONI), Diego Cevallos (AKA Métrika), and Marco
Balcazar (AKA Balcazar of Balcazar & Sordo). With each member bringing a
distinct musical background to the group, creating a unique fusion of sound
set to resonate with electronic music enthusiasts worldwide, Secret Echoes
creates music that blends house foundations with melodic innovation. The
origins of the project trace back to the height of the pandemic, when
Cevallos and Balcazar began collaborating on an album they had always
envisioned. Renting a unique studio in Jiutepec, Mexico, equipped with
analogue tape machines and high-end studio gear, and inviting their talented
friends to contribute, Brolo soon joined the project - adding her melodic and
lyrical expertise. The result was the recording of 11 tracks that were put on
hold until the time was right. After revisiting the tracks and performing
them live, ‘Bring My Beat Back’ caught the attention of Crosstown Rebels
founder Damian Lazarus during 2024’s Day Zero performance. Inspired by its
energy and potential, Lazarus signed the entire album, and this first single
provides a first glimpse of what is to come from the enigmatic trio on an
imprint known for continually pushing boundaries within house music. ‘Bring
My Beat Back’ showcases the group’s distinctive blend of house music
foundations, guided by Brolo’s captivating vocals above shimmering synths and
refined percussion grooves to deliver a silky-smooth production balancing

On
August 16, Toronto-based musician and producer David Psutka aka ACT! (fka
Egyptrixx / Anamai / Ceramic TL) will release his latest project ‘Face to
Face, Day by Day’ for his own Halocline Trance imprint. This is is Psutka’s
third album proper as ACT! following the release of the “sonic mixtape”
‘Universalist’ in 2018 and the augmented reality soundtrack ‘Grey Matter AR’
in 2021; a series of Snapchat filters created by artist Karen Vanderborght
and soundtracked by ACT! which explored the poetic and existential potential
of AR and social media. “Aesthetic accidents in the periphery of the ‘work’
can be the message. In 2018, at an Egyptrixx concert at Bagni Misteriosi de
Teatro Franco Parenti - a gorgeous, sprawling outdoor pool theatre in Milan -
I had a clarifying moment. Gigs around then had mostly been in pummelling,
dark music venues, so I wasn't prepared for this expansive space (and the
thoughtful work of the organisers who had layered sheets of plastic film on
the pool to parallel eco-materialist themes from a previous album). It was
the midday soundcheck that struck me most - brittle digital sounds from the
set echoed off the colonial Milanese facades and ricocheted down the Via
Carlo Botta, pinging off buildings in the distance and clashing with the
noise of traffic, tourists and whatever else. It was a strange, collisionist
moment, and a reminder that my essential approach to music is, above all, a
preoccupation with the materiality of sound. Everything on Face to Face, Day
by Day began as an improvisation. Openness to accidents and the emotional
complexity that comes from centering them in composition has become important
to my work, and helps the music go beyond the possibility of what is
playable, imaginable. I also wanted to channel adventurous solo pop records
of the 1970’s and 80’s, like Yasuaki Shimizu, Jon + Vangelis and Stevie
Wonder. These came from an interesting era in commercial music as studio
production techniques became increasingly formalised as compositional
devices, like AMS RMX16 percussion sounds and early digital stereo effects.
Like many musicians, I’ve been travelling and performing less since the
pandemic and as a result, have wanted studio sessions to feel more
collaborative and improvisational. There were great writing and recording
sessions for this album. Vox, synth, sax and guitar jams - much of what ended
up on the record isn’t edited much, if at all. I jammed a sm57 into Colin
Fisher’s sax bell and created feedback loops using various preamps and distortion
units. The clunky sounds were sampled and used as percussion elements. I also
had a great synth jam session with Jeremy Greenspan at Barton Building Studio
in Hamilton, which was recorded by filmmaker Liz Adler. I’ve had a few months
to sit with this album and see clear throughlines connecting it to previous

Once
touched by magic it does not fade away, but resurfaces as it has with what we
believe to be some of the Congos most heartfelt and meaningful set of songs
...... Let the feast begin. The Congos were formed by Cedric Myton (born 1947
St Catherine, Jamaica) and Roydel ‘Roy’ Johnson (born 1943 Hanover, Jamaica),
around the mid-seventies, a time when the Rasta message coming out of
Kingston and other pockets of the Jamaican Island was at its most prominent.
Cedric Myton’s singing career began back in the rocksteady era in Reggae’s
musical story. He formed the ‘Tartans’ group taking lead vocal duties
alongside Devon Russell, Prince Lincoln Thompson and Lindbergh Lewis. They
cut ‘Dance All Night’ (1967) and ‘Coming On Strong’ (1968). The line-up
reduced to a two piece, Cedric and Devon Russell, when tracks like ‘What a
Sin Thing’ and ‘Short Up Dress’ were cut. This line-up became the Royal
Rasses, Cedric formed The Congos, on meeting Roydel Johnson. Roydel
previously sang as a member of Ras Michael and the Sons of Negas, cutting
such tracks as ’Go To Zion’ (1973). As we can see Cedric’s and Roydel’s Rasta
roots were firmly in place by the time they had formed The Congos sometimes
called ‘The Congoes’. The Congos possess what all bands look for,that unique
sound that draws the listener to them.Lead singer Cedric Myton’s style and
phasing, with his distinctive Falsetto voice makes this just the case.Built
on a foundation of classic rhythms and with the aid of then Producer, Lee
Perry, the groups statement of intent was laid down with one succinct
message. The Congos mighty 1977 ‘Heart of the Congos’ album, is quite simply
one of the best reggae albums ever recorded. Producer Lee Perry had wanted to
record a classic Jamaican vocal group in his newly built Black Ark Studio.
The voice of Watty Burnett was added at the time to cover baritone vocal
duties. The studio after various changes in equipment etc. was finally
finding its way. A sound built in Lee Perry’s back yard in Cardiff Crescent,
Washington Gardens, Kingston, but existing until then in Mr Lee Perry’s mind.
The album they cut would be the defining group release to come out of The
Black Ark studios, when the vital elements, vibes, musicians, songs and
singing would gel to form ‘Heart Of The Congos’. Come the time of it’s
release 1977, Lee Perry was in dispute with Island Records and opted to
release the record on his own ‘Black Art’ label. Without the high-profile
push of a major label, the record undersold and caused a split between
producer and band. Under different circumstances maybe this album would be
sitting in thousands of homes alongside the Bob Marley, Culture, Burning
Spear releases. Cedric Myton went on to release albums with the French arm of
the CBS label and Roy Johnson records and tours as Congo Ashanti Roy. Cedric
Myton the central force carries on the mantle of the Congos and we at
Kingston Sounds are proud to pick up the story with another set of vocal
statements, which sees Cedric cut some of his finest tunes. Helped along by
another reggae legend Brent Dowe, lead singer of the Melodians (Rivers of
Babylon), over some classic 1970’s rhythms. Yet again we find that magic
formula of strong statements working alongside classic rhythms making the
balance work. The Rasta message is still strong on modern classics like ‘King
Rastafari Is His Name’, ‘Rasta Congo Man’ and the injustices of the world
dissected in tunes ‘Some A Thief’, ‘Watch & Pray’ and the prophetical,
‘Citizen Of The World’ |

Del Tro will release the new album of the Brussels-based Naomie Klaus album
on the 20th of September. “When forty, I was still wearing miniskirts,
extravagant patterns, pink, ?uorescent colours, star shaped earrings. I
walked around with my leopardskin hat, my fluffy bag, my ?oral outfit, until
the gaze of others made me feel like it was not age appropriate anymore.
Although I am still the same person I was at 16. It's the others I see
changing." There's no better way to describe ageing than through the gap
that arises and continues to grow between physical reality and the specular
image of the self : one deteriorates over time, exposed to the cruel laws of
gravity and oxydation, while the other never ages, remaining intact and
unaltered… frozen in a moment of blissfulness. The more time goes by the more
the gap becomes a separate entity (ou “world” pour etre plus prosaïque). It
can become so painful that many try to escape it, using and abusing every
trickery. “Youth looks so good on you” is a sonic ballad which bizarrely
explores the world that lies between reality and self-fantasy, a world where
the aesthetic cult of youth becomes sovereign to the people. This piece was
produced in 2022 as part of the Festival « Les Heures Sauvages - Nef des
Marges dans l'ombre des certitudes », at the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles in
Paris. After "A Story of a Global Disease" in 2022, "Youth

Tiger Stripes debuts on Rekids

Mariano Melo, also known as
Marian Sarine, is a Brazilian multi-instrumentalist based in Sao Paulo,
specialising in percussion and drums. His latest album, Asas Terenas, is his
first under this name and started with organ recordings made with Felipe Pato
in late 2019 and was completed with additional instruments added in the years
that followed. Asas Terenas features a mix of rhythmic improvisations built
on modal scales, combining dynamic interplay between notes and percussion.
Drawing inspiration from artists like Charanjit Singh, who merged traditional
North-Indian ragas with electronic music, and African organists like Hailu
Mergia, it combines old and new sounds, merging spiritual elements with
energetic rhythms. As Sarine himself says, Asas Terenas is a sonic mixture
that moves the feet and lifts the soul, creating an experience that is both
pristine in sound and transcendental on the dancefloor |
