for the first time outside of Brazil. Tom Zé is considered the most
"paulista" of all Tropicalistas. He came from Bahia, but his wry
urban poetry, infused with the uncomfortable sounds of the largest metropolis
of South America, is pure Sao Paulo. The variety of musical genres in the LP
- samba, sertanejo, bolero, xote, repente and forro - reflects the cultural
diversity of the Bra's neighbourhood, a meeting point of Italians,
nordestinos, Africans, and latinos. This reissue includes unseen photos, new
testimonials from Tom Ze himself and a lengthy article signed by Bento
Araujo, author of the book series Lindo Sonho Delirante. Away from radio, TV
and with live performances increasingly scarce at the end of the seventies,
Tom Ze was a risky investment for record labels, agents, and gig promoters.
Always eager to please his sense for innovation and his creativity Tom Ze
wanted to release an album again after the cult Estudando o Samba (1976). So
came this, a record where the tension was at the script, in the distressing
real life chronicles that the artist interpreted and reported also in an
autobiographic manner. At Correio da Estacao do Bras (1978 - 2022) Tom Ze had
done what seemed impossible: contemporary working-class music not for the
elite but for the people itself |

Broken Arm are a punk group from Leeds. The question is, what
kind of punk group? You might recognise their members from other groups
theyve appeared in which do not sound at all like Broken Arm: Guitarist Guy
is a member of snappy, funky post-punk group Woman. Vocalist Nick and bass
player Hugues were in the abrasive post-punk group Sailors. Drummer Tom was
in the deceptively successful "world metal" group Like a Kind of
Matador, although was always inclined towards playing more like Helmets John
Stanier. Negative is their debut 7" and consists of three short, sharp
stabs and one hot, slow rodding |

Saltpig's debut album, Mitch Davis takes a dark journey into occult themes
and horrific storylines dancing around melodic yet dissonant layers of noisy
guitars, overdriven bass and floating drums. The album forgoes the expected
fuzz sounds for a palette of tones that largely disregards genre in order for
Saltpig to build songs that are simply evil and completely human. It's fully
embracing a love of distortion and feedback in all forms while pushing tape
to its breaking point. The band plays with different tempos and tunings as a
way mostly to keep things interesting for themselves, creating what feels
akin to a greatest hits album where the songs take on different personalities
but feel completely like Saltpig songs at the same time. They find influences
from early Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate and Black Sabbath at a time when metal
was still finding its way. Rewind to an era before metal began its evolution
towards greater precision, bigger drums and more robust production, then

Away from the grandeur, and
although their line-up history is full of potholes - the key to unlock this
classic release by Extreme Noise Terrors, Holocaust in Your Head is the
double-edged vocal prongs from ENT founders Phil Vane and Dean Jones and the
black-avalanche guitars of Steve Hurley (not forgetting the drum stool
occupied by Mick Harris, soon to be of Scorn during the recording of this
album, and Doom's Tony 'Stick' Dickens). Statement is as good as any opening
gambit for a band - a trail of sludge setting fire to itself consuming the
raw, political ashtray mantras spewed into its thick, corrosive grip. Another
Nail in the Coffin suitably devastating the senses as a wrecking ball swings
from its chain into the side of a condemned building, brick by brick. Eaten.

Science,
Art And Ritual' is a story of 'process'. Growing up in Harrow (a then quiet
suburb of London) in the 70's and 80's from the age of about 10, Kingsuk
Biswas aka Bedouin Ascent's ears opened up to sound as he scanned the
airwaves. The undeniable righteousness of 80's dub via David Rodigan's Roots
Rockers shows was the first prominent influence he received, and with punk
roots --and his burgeoning record collection-- became exposed to the
breathless post punk experimentation that followed in the early 80's sweeping
up free jazz, noise, dub and much more. Throughout though, he maintained his
fascination with Indian Classical music which was a mainstay in his parent's
house and spoke with the same infinite space as Joy Division's 'Unknown
Pleasures', and King Tubby's Studio dispatches. Through those teens he
assembled and de-assembled, knocking about with fellow travellers --punk
bands, garage, space rock, noise. Something was happening. On-U Sound, ECM,
Factory Records kept him plugged in and sane. At that time Kingsuk's core
studio setup revolved around his vintage Gretsch, Fender Jazz, Moog, TR-606
and rudimentary FX. He added congas, folk instruments, pipes, hand
percussion, gongs, and jammed out shards of funk, noise, jazz fusion, electro
and ambience into his hungry Tascam Portastudio. By 1987 these had morphed
into what we'd now refer to broadly as techno, but the genre didn't exist
beyond the reverberating walls of his bedsit, and he hadn't yet plugged into
the global conversation. At that time Kingsuk's core studio setup revolved
around his vintage Gretsch, Fender Jazz, Moog, TR-606 and rudimentary FX. He
added congas, folk instruments, pipes, hand percussion, gongs, and jammed out
shards of funk, noise, jazz fusion, electro and ambience into his hungry
Tascam Portastudio. By 1987 these had morphed into what we'd now refer to
broadly as techno, but the genre didn't exist beyond the reverberating walls
of his bedsit, and he hadn't yet plugged into the global conversation.
'Science, Art And Ritual' was released in 1994 by Rising High Records and was
presented as Bedouin Ascent's debut album, although 'Music for Particles'
(released in 1995, again on Rising High) was recorded even before --'SAR'
sessions span from 1992-1993, whereas 'Music for Particles' were earlier from
1989-1992, with some older 4-track references from about 1986 too. Weaved in
throughout the album are subconscious references to music that Kingsuk heard
in the past that still remained within sight as companions. The opening track
"Ancient Ocean III", referencing the extinct ocean Tethis,
unapologetically channels Tackhead, Colourbox, Mantronix and Lee Perry. The
style was also deliberately juxtaposed to the prevailing sound in techno at
the time, which had locked onto a rigid form of symmetrical kicks and light
snare drums. Elsewhere 80's soul and funk are frozen and captured in fragile
glass lattices. Electric pianos resound throughout, such as in "He Is
She", probably a half-memory of 70's MOR radio from childhood sleepy
night drives. A duel between kick drums from three generations of Roland drum
machines --TR-808, TR-707 and R-8-- is a central theme in
"Transition-R", all in conversation, calling and responding. These
were not just machines to Bedouin Ascent, but part of an extended family,
with heart and soul. Three decades after seeing the light, Lapsus is proud to
present a special 30th anniversary reissue of this left-field techno gem in a
repackaged and redesigned edition. All pressed on a deluxe 3LP marbled vinyl
and including a limited lithographic insert print of the original album
cover. All tracks have been restored and remastered directly from the
original DAT tapes, and the album also features previously unreleased tracks
such as "In the Clouds" and "Thru Water" --regularly
performed live at that time and produced in the same period as the album
sessions in 1993. 'Science, Art And Ritual' may refer to esoteric traditions
in Indian philosophy, but equally embodies the collision of the science, the
art and the ritual that is at the core of being immersed in a deep musical
journey |

BETWEEN DIY-POP GRAFTER ROBERT SOTELO AND MARY CURRIE (HALF OF FLAMING TUNES

Robert Sotelo is a bedroom pop songsmith who lives in Glasgow. Sotelo has
released six albums since 2017, three of which came out on Upset The Rhythm.
He also performs in Order of the Toad, Dancer and Nightshift. Mary Currie is
best known as half of touchstone DIY experimentalists Flaming Tunes,
alongside Gareth Williams (of This Heat). Currie also performed in Officer!
with Mick Hobbs amongst others. Introduced via a mutual friend, Sotelo
approached Currie last year about collaborating on four songs he was
constructing with producer/electronic guru Joe Howe. This resulted in the
‘Dream Songs’ 7” EP (out October 4th on Upset The Rhythm). Not only does the
title capture the hazy, reflective nature of the music it also expounds on
the origin of tracks. Sotelo experienced several lucid dreams in the first
half of 2023 that left him in a state of confusion. He recalled visiting
parts of London vividly, including a disused theatre of great familiarity,
yet it slowly transpired that these places and circumstances were not real,
much to Sotelo's disbelief. These reveries informed the lyrical narrative of
the four songs from the forthcoming EP. Currie took a similar approach with
her lyrics, focusing on memory and time for her passages on the record.
Currie recorded her parts in London (assisted by her good friend Alison
Craig) and then sent them to Howe, alongside additional location recordings
to consolidate into the mixes. These four tracks flutter with a minimalist
bass, drum machine and keys dynamic, allowing Sotelo and Currie’s vocals to
speak deeply into the back of your mind. ‘Expectations’ is a pensive triumph
of whirled moments and momentum with Currie’s final words lending much
gravity “the outcome of my days is always the same, a void that must be
filled, a battle against time that drags us along; mutating, spinning,
ebbing, flowing. Begin again, we work to give value to time.” ‘Telegraph
Hill’ boasts a glossy fluidity, as it plays with images of motorways, ancient
citadels, crows, paralysis and emanations. ‘Lady Fortune’ meanwhile is a
tranquil treatise on fate, imbued with finessed electronic embellishments and
clarinet flourishes. You can't quite trust where these songs will take you,
they feel particularly mercurial. Dreams indeed. ‘Dream Songs’ by Robert
Sotelo & Mary Currie will be released on October 4th, followed by some
live performances from the band. These will include the aforementioned EP
tracks, as well as recreated cuts from the Flaming Tunes era, leaning into
happenstance rather aptly |

To say Jacuzzi is a multifaceted artist would be an understatement. She is
well known for her uncompromisingly obtuse synth-driven pop and one-of-a-kind
performance art that is comprised of one time only spectacles and
installations. Her works have been presented in famous art institutions such
as the Museum of Contemporary Art, MOCA and numerous other venues across the
globe. She has developed a very focused cult following in the art AND music
scenes. She was originally well known for her multitude of self-released home
recordings but also released a full length Lamaze in 2010 on the Vinyl
International to much acclaim. Not to mention her track The Sleep Room
featured on The Minimal Wave Tapes Vol 2. Technophelia is the culmination of
a hybrid of DIY and professional studio recordings (with the help of esteemed
producer Chris Coady) that resulted in this exquisite album. Features the

repress on gold coloured vinyl! Trixie Whitley's debut album originally
released in 2013. Fourth corner. Physically, it's where four states in the
U.S. come together at one singular point. Symbolically, it's where the four
great rivers in China come together as one. Or, it could be the cycle of life
during the four seasons of the year. For Trixie Whitley, it's a metaphor for
trying to find balance and belonging from the songs that make up her
scintillating debut album, Fourth Corner. Whitley burst into public
consciousness in 2011 as the lead singer of Black Dub, super-producer Daniel
Lanois' (U2, Bob Dylan) project, blowing people away with a voice and
presence beyond her now-25 years. And it's that voice: an emotional,
blues-drenched instrument that ranges from a lilting slap to a
knock-you-backwards uppercut. On Fourth Corner, Whitley explores the range of
human emotion in another set of four: utter love, total rage, unadulterated
happiness, and crippling loneliness. "It's those elements of life I keep
coming back to," she says. "Both as a person and musically as
well." Recorded in New York with producer/keyboardist Thomas Bartlett
(aka Doveman, who's also worked with Glen Hansard, Antony and the Johnsons,
Grizzly Bear and the National) engineer Pat Dillett (David Byrne, St.
Vincent, Mary J. Blige), and string arrangements by Rob Moose (Antony, Bon
Iver), aching songs like "Need Your Love" have Whitley working from
a spare beginning that explodes into a blossom dripping with pleading vocals
and delicate piano. On tracks like the sassy "Irene" and the
sinister "Hotel No Name," Whitley lays down a snarling guitar line
on top of scuzzy beats while her voice veers from defiant to remorseful. It's
a tantalizing mix of sounds that can come only from someone who says:
"I'm from everywhere but have never felt like I belong." Whitley
lived a nomadic life: born in Belgium, she split her time growing up there
and in New York but also frequently visiting family in France, Texas, and
Mexico. Her mother came from an artistic European gypsy family, filled with
musicians, painters, writers, and sculptures, while her father, renowned
singer-songwriter Chris Whitley, thrust her into the world of music as a
toddler when she joined him onstage in Germany at age three. After a few
years of touring and recording experience with some of the most inspiring
artists around, Trixie is ready to presenther anticipated first solo full
length. "I'm psyched and petrified," says Whitley in her archetypal
wide-eyed wonderment mixed with a fierce determination. "As a
songwriter, I want to go to places people don't expect and with that is
complete freedom of expression." Perhaps that place is another version

Tubby the Dub Master, who's output was as prolific as it is sought after, and
who's presence is surely missed. We would like to take you on another dub
excursion. This time through some essential cuts made for the Producer / DJ
Tappa Zukie. King Tubby always added something a little special to the tracks
he worked on. Producers would often bring their already recorded tracks to
his home studio at 18 Drummlie Avenue in the Kingston district of Waterhouse.
The backing tracks which were laid at various other studios around Kingston.
Like Channel 1and Randy's Studio 17, would then be voiced/Re-voiced at King
Tubby's. Tubby and his team which included Prince Jammy and Philip Smart
would be left to create the version cut. Having listened to the track it
would be striped back to the bone of bass and drums and rebuilt. Sprinkling
his magic over the track by dropping the bass in and out, adding echo and
emphasising various elements of the song.
In some cases, dubbing the cut into something unrecognisable from its
original sound. The tracks would be aired on Tubby's Hometown Hi-Fi Sound
System. Which acted much like a pre-release for the record to gauge the
crowd’s reaction, before the tracks would be unleased on the public. We think
we have sourced another fine collection of Tubby Cuts [see also King Tubby's
Lost Treasures JR001], comprising of work with Mr Tappa Zukie. Lost cuts to
some of his own tracks like 'First Street Rock', alongside productions he
undertook with the great Prince Allah, Junior Ross and the Spears. Also, the
much-overlooked vocal group Knowledge. Some great rhythms, some great tracks,
worked over by the greatest dub mixer of them all. Hope you enjoy the set as

Entries picks up Severed Heads yet again for Ear Bitten, a double LP reissue
of some of the band’s earliest material. As originary Aussie industrial
legends - although founder Tom Ellard would balk at being branded as such -
Severed Heads shaped the continental subcultural sound with their kitchen
electronics, chaotic tape loops, and quietly infectious nursery-rhyme-esque
melodies. In 1979 Ellard, Richard Fielding, and Andrew Wright abandoned the
moniker Mr. and Mrs. No Smoking Sign and adopted the edgier name Severed
Heads “to pretend to be an industrial band such as Surgical Penis Klinik
& Throbbing Gristle.” Noise-rockers Rhythmx Chymx had placed an
advertisement in a local shop looking for a band to share the costs of
pressing an LP. The Heads set about recording a Dadaist racket on a pair of
open reel dictaphones and a cassette deck using a TRS-80 computer, Kawai
Synthesizer 100F and Korg Mini Pops drum machine. Ear Bitten was released in
1980; original copies now fetch obscene sums, in part due to most of Severed
Heads’ copies perishing in a fire at Richard’s home. The band’s next endeavor
was a cassette titled Side 2, a collection of free-form experiments fashioned
as Ear Bitten’s second side. For this reissue, Dark Entries has collected
both Ear Bitten and Side 2 on the first disc, presenting the album in its
full form. Disc two includes the original first version of Ear Bitten, which
was only unreleased because it was recorded in a format not suitable for
pressing. The album comes in a gatefold sleeve designed by Eloise Leigh and
includes photos, liner notes, and reproductions of the original Xerox inserts
from the 1980 issue. Ear Bitten delivers 22 tracks of pain you can dance to! |

Lenske's
23rd release is a comeback by the undeniably talented Milo Spykers. With his
fifth release on the label, the Belgian producer and DJ solidifies his strong
presence within the Lenske family. This EP features his distinctive blend of
harder techno and psy-elements, delivering an electrifying package and his
most mature to date. This four-track EP is a testament to Spykers' unique
style and innovative approach, perfect for the sweaty dancefloor. It kicks
off with the title track 'Thunderworld', bringing a stomping kick and a hard,
rolling groove. The bouncing lead, reminiscent of a thunderstorm, paired with
cinematic alien sound design, creates an intense atmosphere. A breakbeat
section provides a contrasting element, heightening tension during the break.
Following, 'Ghostrider' features metallic percussion resonating throughout
the track, with a rolling bassline and a catchy groove that keeps listeners
anchored to the dancefloor. The rising dark bassline adds an intimate vibe,
building suspense and intensity. With a bouncy groove and a trancy bassline,
'Warp Drive' takes listeners on a mind-bending journey. The synth seems to
rise from the underworld, pushed by a distorted bass evoking the sensation of
racing through a neon-lit tunnel, akin to a Blade Runner-esque landscape.
Closing the EP, 'Croton' showcases Spykers' producer-skills once again,
delivering a rolling distorted bassline and saturated percussion that the
Belgian producer is best known for. Dark leads dominate the scene, merging seamlessly
with the fast-paced, aggressive cut, while delayed leads on the downbeat add
color and atmospheric pads unify the composition, introducing a touch of
darkness |

seventh Various Artists release on Mary Yuzovskaya's Monday Off imprint
arrives on vinyl in October 2024, with Viels, ORBE, D-Leria, and Yuzovskaya
contributing tracks. First up on the record, Italy's End Of Perception
founder Viels conjures up a storm with 'Nero', a cerebral cut with crushing,
low-end-heavy atmospheres and mysterious alien signals. It is followed by
Spanish techno lynchpin and Orbe Records boss ORBE, whose hypnotic 'Rigging'
explores the abyss with foreboding sonics and a continual beep sequence that
guides the track forward. On the B-side, Monday Off label head Mary
Yuzovskaya presents 'Trouble'. A masterful bassline and bodied kickdrum
starts the trip, providing an excellent foundation while alternating between
rattling percussion, deep dub hits, and strangely familiar but indecipherable
vocal snippets. Sound design wizard D-Leria then closes out the EP with the
spellbinding 'Battito', complete with mind-blowing melodies and swirling
effects, rounding off another top-draw psychedelic offering on Monday Off |

The process of production of the
album took time during some challenging years - when our ordinary world
started to shatter... Therefore the cover is divided in two parts - on the
right, we observe chaos and destruction; on the left, people are having a quiet
and happy life. Modern / hybrid club sounds in the album co-exist with
sensible, soulful vibes, sorrow and hope. On top, the finishing comes in a
close to perfection studio-engineered sound. HYPER HOUSE therefore is an
intimate record with a personal meaning for Biicla and for us, as a label.
Together as a team, we represent Biicla in all facets of his creative output,

Sleepers Poets Scientists is an
Umbrella for female composers and music producers. Vol. 2 compiles 8 Georgian
composers: Anushka Chkheidze, Natalie Beridze, sTia, Tamo Nasidze, Tamta
Gqarliani, ELY ANN, Nasi Chavchavadze and Nina Simonishvili, all of whom are
CES graduates of Music Production course led by Natalie Beridze, one of the
most successful Georgian producers on the scene of Georgian electronic music.
The retro cover is a nod to the famous group shot from the 1927 Solvay
conference, which brought together physicists like Albert Einstein, Erwin
Schrödinger, Marie Curie, and others. With this in mind, the name Sleepers,
Poets, Scientists rings like a call to action for today's brightest minds, to
wake up and save our chaotic, troubled world |

artwork by Al White & House Of Traps Les Graciés is a collaboration in
the truest sense between Paris-based sound artist Gaël Segalen and Deepblak
co-founder Afrikan Sciences. Segalen’s experiments in electroacoustic sound
met the wider world this year via a debut LP for Erratum, an arresting work
that showcases her ability to merge hypnotic murk ala Angus MacLise with the
hard concréte of Parmegiani & Reibel. Segalen’s IHearU imprint /
organisation is a platform for her various doings, including
psychogeographical audio works and multi-media collaborations, as well as
servicing as a reference point for other contemporary female artists working
across various mediums. Eric Douglas Porter aka African Sciences has been
deconstructing and re-building forms of contemporary Black music since the
mid-2000’s, through releases on Deepblak (the label he co-runs with Aybee)
and PAN. His musical universe is one of warping cadences and celestial
melody, referencing the bold work of percussionists like Milford Graves &
Art Jenkins, the dissonant chords of Motor City Techno and stripped back
essence of early Chicago House matched with broken Hard Bop sentiments: all
tied together with an aesthetic that sits somewhere between Sun Ra’s omniverse,
Jean Giraud Mœbius and Dogon cosmology. Together as Le Graciés, Segalen and
Porter make a wholly unclassifiable strain of music that, while containing
recognisable elements of each individual s work, also creates a third entity
in the process, which can be heard to stunning effect on their forthcoming
debut LP ‘Low Doses’ for Firecracker Recordings |
