well, at some point reminiscent of Earth Trax early deep house singles. Its
fascinating insight in world building extending the author's ideas from

releases) much further and treating them more as a starting point rather than

In June of 1988 the might BL'AST!
went into the studio with Black Flag's live sound GOAT: Dave Rat (Ratsound).
The result was the album 'Take The Manic Ride'. It was released by SST in
1989. After the dust had settled the band was somewhat dissatisfied with the
production of the album and regret it ended up eternally haunting the band.
The massive intensity of the songs completely outmatched what the recording
ultimately captured. The master tapes were destroyed and were never to be
recovered. Through some incredibly magical surgery a new heavy as fuck
version of the album has been produced. Under the strict guidance of
mastering engineer Brad Boatright (who also remastered the other BL'AST!
albums re-released by Southern Lord) they now are beyond stoked to bring you
'Manic Ride'. A balls to the wall, in-your-face, revisionist version for the
modern age |

In
2017, Bahraini-British trumpeter and flugelhorn player Yazz Ahmed
revolutionised jazz with her album "La Saboteuse," blending her
dual heritage with electronic effects to redefine the genre. The record
delves into her British and Bahraini roots, featuring musicians like Lewis
Wright and Shabaka Hutchings, and is characterised by its Middle Eastern
melodies and evocative rhythms, exploring themes of selfdoubt personified by
a female saboteur. Yazz’s early years in Bahrain and her grandfather's
trumpet playing in London inspired her musical journey, with the influence of
modern-day contemporary jazz artists - and Ahmed’s own contemporaries - like
Kamasi Washington and Sons of Kemet also seeping in. Her unique sound
incorporates Arabic melodies, reflecting her cultural heritage and British
jazz influences. Yazz also challenges the male-dominated jazz sphere,
empowered by a rising number of female musicians. Despite improvements, she
believes more progress is needed. Looking forward, Yazz Ahmed plans to create
a piece inspired by the universe's ever-changing structures, signalling her
continuous innovation in jazz. Her work positions her as a vital part of the
evolving jazz landscape, bridging cultural and musical divides |

Deep Wound were a Massachusetts
punk&noise band who existed between 1982 and 1983. Among their line up
included J Mascis on Drums, later of Dinosaur Jr, Lou Barlow on guitar, later
of Dinosaur Jr and Sebadoh and Scott Helland on bass, who went on to form
hardcore band Outpatients. They began playing a mix of UK and US punk before
evolving into an experimental noise band. This self-titled LP contains
twenty-four tracks, which is most of what they recorded |

California Jam (also known as Cal Jam), this live set is essential Black
Sabbath mid-period. The music festival - co-headlined by Deep Purple and
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - held at the Ontario Motor Speedway in
California, on April 6, 1974. The California Jam attracted 250,000 paying
music fans. The festival was well-known for the loudest amplification system
ever installed and the highest paid attendance in history. It was one of the
last of the original wave of rock festivals, as well as one of the most
well-executed and financially successful, and presaged the era of media
consolidation and the corporatization of the rock music industry |

A very welcomed reissue for this
rare Jackie Mittoo album, originally released in 1979 on unknown label, Rite
Sound inc. The original release was sold without a jacket (maybe a promo only
release ?), adding a mysterious vibe to the whole thing. The dubby
effect-intensive sound of the album extends from ussian Satelite' to the
whole side A, with 'arder Than The Rest', tepping Tiger' and orld Of Love'
being an excellent triptych of note. The thrill of Jackie's crazy keyboards
intertwining with the floating dub sound like a heavenly space is beyond

Still
as fun and inspiring to hear a new EP by Frak as the first time I found there
music on some YouTube playlist 13 years ago. This time it's a 4 song EP that
takes us on a small journey in time and space. It starts of with jacking
proto ACID house song called Delayed Attraction. A song that would have made
the kids crazy at the Music Box in the mid 80's. And are still as uplifting
for all us house heds. The second song Tear Gas takes us back to Europe, with
a slow Belgian beat that moves like a train and hits you straight in the
chest, and on top of this a monotom synth pad on top of that it gives the
song a some what a scary dream feeling. The third song Nasjiga is taking us
further in to the complex dream but packaged in a Detroit electro vibe with
sounds that makes me think of a hospital hart beat monitor but then mixed up
with bit-crushd lo-fi dragon covers in a dubby inferno that keeps on building
up without coming to a climax (in a good way). The forth song Verfolgung is a
8 minute stomping song that's starts of in a Burzum sounding flute but the
quickly goes over to a freaky baseline that's sounds like its made out of a
congas patch and a detuned bass on top of that. On top of that they put a
march bands drum pattern that gives this song a freaky tivoli vibe and would
be such a banger a the right time of a DJ set. /Jens W Limited numbered to

the drum machine, this is are both funky and hypnotic. * Tear-Gas - A mid-tempo

Borusiade
lands on Dark Entries with their triumphant third LP, THE FALL: A Series of
Documented Experiences. The Romanian producer and DJ Miruna Boruzescu aka
Borusiade has a track record of genre-bending releases on tastemaking outlets
like Cómeme, Pinkman, Cititrax, and of course Dark Entries, who unleashed
their stunning 2020 sophomore album Fortunate Isolation. THE FALL builds on
Borusiade’s mythos with its 9 brooding and sophisticated tracks investigating
the contours of memory and embodiment - the “fragile bridge between body and
mind” in Borusiade’s words. Moody basslines and melancholy synths wrestle
with muscular rhythms; this is electronic body music for the heart and head.
This is their most diaristic work to date, as well, chronicling love and loss
through the gauze of reflection. Tracks like “Save Me”, “Recovery and
Redemption”, and “The Fall” sprung from painful breakups, periods which
Borusiade identifies as some of their most creatively fruitful, finding
themselves “making the best music when I was brokenhearted.” There are odes
to musical titans we’ve lost: the minimal electro producer Porn Darsteller is
comemorated on “Darsteller”, while industrial legends Genesis P-Orrige and
Lady Jaye are honored on “Pandrogyne.” THE FALL comes housed in a sleeve
using Gautier D'Agoty’s “Essai d'Anatomie,” an anatomical work from 1745, and
also includes a lyric sheet. Trauma, from lost love to pandemic
isolation, informs THE FALL, situating
itself as a gap that can only be accessed through sound and the creation of

In
this next installment of Token, Brussels' own Border One steps in to showcase
'Echoes from the Abyss', another swinging, modular-driven project destined
for controlled sound systems. In these four tracks, the seasoned producer
does what he knows best: engaging the dancefloor through his signature sound
design and use of space. 'Echoes from the Abyss' the track, like the EP, is a
collection of sound associations that are synonymous with Border One's sound.
Resonant and cerebral yet bouncy and full of groove, the A1 presents a
shimmering veil of synthwork that gives off a truly hypnotic effect. The
follow up is much more sequence-based, focusing on the elements'
interactions. The producer plays along freely with his drum machine,
responding to a classically loopy and dissonant main synth that insists its
way from beginning to end. Tension is everything, especially when met with a
sustained chord in the second half, turning the record into a weapon of
suspense. 'Celestial Observer' comes back straight and center with a focused
tone and a progressive arrangement. With a thick low end and shrill highs,
Border One flicks through percussion patterns and filter sweeps to make an
intense, at times close eyed dancefloor experience. Ducking back into obscurity
for the last track, 'Escaping the Void' takes on a more minimally produced
style that breathes a bit after its previous, denser productions. Concluding
with a question mark is always very appropriate, and here we're faced with a
record caught between ethereal soundscapes and tense implications. With
'Escaping the Void', Border One closes with his latest contribution to Token
with class as always, appealing to genre veterans and newcomers alike |

Vinyl welcomes on board Turkish born and Amsterdam based Beste Hira,
delivering an EP that brings together funky rhythms and soulful vocals. Known

Hurdslenk
is back on KEY with a proper 2x12 heavy hitter. The classic KEY sound,
oscillating between relentless peak time energy and funky, textural grooves.
Opening with Horizon on the A1, Hurdslenk wastes no time in setting the tone
for this release. This high energy stomper is packed with sinister vibes and
metallic highs, driving an intense, full power track thats tailor made for
peak time moments. Its merciless, unyielding, and primed to dominate the
dancefloor. A2 Dust keeps the energy high while introducing a pneumatic,
distorted feel. Hurdslenk leans into abrasive, visceral realms over here,
delivering somewhat of a raw, industrial edge. Its dryly funked techno pulse
is unforgiving, making it an ace for those seeking hard hitting pressure with
a tactile quality. On the flip, Hurdslenk shifts gears. B1 adopts a
stealthier approach with a rolling bassline and dusky, atmospheric strings,
allowing for a mesmerizing throb to invite listeners into a deeper, cerebral
space. Its hypnotic and expansive, ideal for building tension while keeping
the floor engaged. B2 brings a playful touch with its tunnel groove, adding
an element of fun to the darker journey. The C side strips things back,
displaying Hurdslenks ability to craft raw power with fewer elements.
Finally, the D side closes the release with a slightly more hypnotic descent.
The intensity lowers, guiding you into darker, more texturized waters, where
rhythmic intricacies and detailed layers come together for an immersive,

Ontmoeting (Encounter) from 1982
marks the beginning of the published audio works of Enno Velthuys. When Rob
Smit of Kubus Kassettes first visited Enno to discuss the possibilities of
releasing a cassette, he was open to the idea and gave Smit access to his
tape archive of recorded tracks to cherry pick his favorite pieces. Initially
Enno felt the selection didn’t do justice to his broader musical spectrum,
that also included more rhythm orientated guitar pieces, but in hindsight it
probably gave him a new sense of direction. On this album, a mixture of
spacious ambient and synth-leaden music, we hear Enno in transition.
Experimenting, searching for his own voice. Some pieces are reminiscent of a
classic dungeon explorer game while others have a more surreal, cinematic
feel. Although 40 years old, Ontmoeting still sounds incredibly fresh today
and stands as a pivotal ambient release from the early 80’s. 400 copies on
