Although the Smiths were a
beloved band in Italy, they had the misfortune to play live only once. A
single concert, the one at the Teatro Tendastrice in Rome on May 14, 1985,
during the Meat Is Murder tour. A spring Tuesday that would go down in
history. The Manchester band would later pass through Italy for two
appearances, but only on television. The first - at the Sanremo festival at
the PalaRock - and then, between 9 and 10 March, they took the stage at the
1987 Spring Festival. Shortly thereafter, in August 1987, Johnny Marr would
leave the group. To make a long story short, this performance is
quintessential and a must have for all of the die-hard supporters! |

Insolate
unveils the 'Full Disclosure' album, arriving 7th March 2025 on her Out Of
Place Records, released on digital and double record vinyl. It's the Croatian
artist's second full-length release, already supported by the likes of
Rodhad, Stephanie Sykes, and Nastia, following 2019's 'Order Is Chaos' on the
label and its subsequent remix album, which featured reworks by Ben Sims,
Pfirter, Sev Dah, Amotik, Under Black Helmet, Volster, ASEC, and Flamina.
"'Full Disclosure' is a reflection of who I am today. It represents the
music I love to play, featuring high-energy bangers alongside functional
tracks while experimenting with chords, vocals and melodies. As the title
suggests, Full Disclosure is about openness, transparency, and revealing the
full truth of who I am as an artist" - Insolate. 'On Your Knees' starts
Insolate's 'Full Disclosure' LP with rolling dub-infused rhythm drenched in a
subtle but potent 303, an otherwordly vocal providing a tripped-out vibe.
Closing out the A-side is 'Stand Strong', a pacey groove with an effective
vocal sample and well-swung drums shot through with razor-sharp stabs. On the
flip, Insolate teams up with Croatian guitarist PEP for 'The Proof', a real
banger that marks his debut in Techno production featuring mind-melting
arpeggio sequences and a shadowy atmosphere. This is before 'Survival
Symphony' strips things back via minimal drum work and electrifying
synthlines that build in intensity. The title track of Insolate's 'Full
Disclosure' album, perfect peak-time cut 'Full Disclosure', continues with
glitchy sequences, a bass bin-shaking groove, and another high-impact vocal
sample. The aptly named 'Playground' then picks up speed with racing drums
and rattling percussion while synths wriggle around playfully, followed by
'Big City', which features hauntingly enchanting melodies laid over bubbling
arps and a steady beat. Insolate's 'The Biggest Fan' is another rave-ready
trip with carefully crafted polyrhythms which won't fail to hypnotise the
dancefloor before 'Ocean of Tears' closes out Insolate's stellar long-player
via a captivating vocal harmony and acid-soaked 909s. Since 1997, Insolate
has become synonymous with the Croatian Techno scene via her HUSH! and TRAUM
event series and her Osijek-based Out Of Place record label that's
spotlighted artists like Anne, Francois X, and many more. She has built an

Coles once again turns the tide towards a new horizon and travels further
into the echo chamber. Leading on from the much-lauded ‘Secret Location’
mini-album with Seekersinternational, one-offs such as ‘Open Palms dub’ (Dub
Stuy) and other teasings, ‘Acid Dub Studies’ is the fully-fledged result of
the merging of the calligraphic expression of the 303 Acid bassline with the
stern sway of Dub Reggae and the hazier edges of Dub Techno and Ambient
music. For those who have been paying close attention, this project will come
as a welcome return to the vulnerability and playfulness of early Om Unit
records such as his sub-radar single from 2010 ‘Lightgrids/Lavender’ (All
City Records) or the unearthed chugging ambience of ‘Friend of Day’ (Idle
Hands) and indeed in some sense draws from similar wellsprings as moments on
2013’s Bass classic ‘Threads’. Whilst being perhaps an ‘interim project’ this
is still a vital and important expression of exploration and playfulness. A
study in the true sense and borne out of a subtle but pervasive frustration
with the rigidity found in musical words he has up to now been cohabiting,
Acid Dub Studies comes from the pressing need to break with perceived
expectation and to explore an honest and natural space away from the genre
labels and tags that had been often lazily applied to his sizeable catalogue
of music. With no desire to reinvent the wheel, rather to paint pictures in
an honest framework, the LP was crafted using a medley of classic analogue
mixing techniques inspired as much by the adventurous dubbing of Adrian
Sherwood as by the inward-delving haze of Scott Monteith’s Deadbeat project.
Created during a period of lonely introspective walks through his home town
of Bristol, the cover art is a photograph of some of the iron kerbstones that
are found almost exclusively in the characterful and hardy city which were
installed in the late 1800’s to protect pavements from cart wheels. Something
about the permanence of those iron slabs and cobblestones inspired a sense of
comfort and determination. Acid Dub Studies is due for release as yet another
self-released label-free project leading on from recent EP titles ‘Violet’
and ‘Submerged’ both of which hinted at some of the shapes found in this full
length album. Once again Jim has shown a rare convincing adaptability that
few electronic artists can embody. Another step on the journey of personal
and creative curiosity that fans are sure to appreciate |

Frique returns with a brand new release on his imprint Colorful World Records
in collaboration with Rush Hour. A compilation of 12 Cape Verdean gems
assembled with the help and knowledge of Americo Brito, there is a very
special story behind it. Americo Brito, who features on Arp Frique’s original
Nos Magia, is a proud and important member of the Cape Verdean community in
Rotterdam. His story reveals the historical connections between radio, vinyl,
Cabo Verde and Rotterdam’s international music scene in the 70s and 80s. Cape
Verdean insiders say “we export all they have to other countries, only to
import it back again”. Cape Verdeans have migrated all over the world, mainly
to cities with big harbours, like New York, Boston and Rotterdam (Holland).
Rotterdam became one of the main destinations (next to Portugal) on the
European mainland. When Americo, like many of his friends and relatives moved
to Rotterdam, he quickly became infected with the music virus. Surrounded on
a daily basis by Cape Verdean music in Portuguese pensions and small hotels,
this was where sailors ingested a dose of “sodade” through the
interpretations of their beloved music by the local Cape Verdean artists.
Americo took to the stage with his band Djarama in the 70s and 80s. The live
music scene was buzzing and the Cape Verdean community had their own
infrastructure for arranging shows, often in nightclubs where the band had to
bring their own soundsystem. Interestingly, Americo didn’t stick to
performing and recording music. He found another way to help spread the Cape
Verdean magical secret of music across Rotterdam, Holland and beyond: “There
was this spot in Rotterdam where all foreign radio stations were housed, all
these different nationalities together, Surinam, Cape Verdean, Hindustani…Guy
Ramos and some of my other friends made radio in the 80s there. I got
involved in their radio activities. Later on I started to work as a
technician and eventually as producer and radio DJ for “Radio Voz De Cabo
Verde”. Radio became bigger and there were around 4 different Cape Verdean
stations active at one point in Rotterdam. instrumental in the development of
this was the attic of a Dutch friend, where “Radio Babalu” came to life.
Radio has always held a special place in my heart.” Americo’s music
collection stems from this era, also aided by his many travels across Europe
to cities with Cape Verdean communities. Alongside Rotterdam local, Arp
Frique, Americo unveils some of these songs: dancefloor hits and beloved
radio gems known in the Cape Verdean scene by younger and older generations
alike, and so far undiscovered by a “bigger” audience. The compilation
showcases the worldly view of Cape Verdean music, incorporating knowledge
from their travels in their compositions. It ranges from the obvious funana
and coladeira, to the more unexpected influences of deep disco, new wave,
uptempo reggae, jazz-funk and Brazilian pop music; demonstrating just the tip
of the iceberg, but what an amazing t(r)ip it is! |

is back after his first release in 2023 with a very special 5 tracker EP. All
the tracks were produced between 1998 and 2009 and we were able to recover
them from old DATs. While the A side is written and produced entirely by
Livio, the B side was co-produced with Luigi Mussi showcasing the first 2
drum&bass tracks ever released on Undersound Recordings. The EP opens
with Sixth Event (2004), a slow, hypnotic track with a trance-infused,
syncopated disco vibe, making it perfect for 5am listening and setting a
reflective mood. Car Ride (2009) is an acid slow-burner, characterised by
classic Periferico chords and a mesmerising sequencer, offering a laid-back
yet evolving energy that pulls you in. Twelve Dances (2009) stands out with
its filtered chords, solid bass-line, and melancholic pad harmonies, creating
an emotional depth that resonates. The B-side includes Cuts and Seamed
(1998), a vintage drum & bass track with an experimental, dark vibe,

will recognise Bobby Sarkie from The Tartans and The Immortals (not to
mention his solo roots killer Better World). His singing here is expertly
reined in by desolation, numbness and regret, over a hollowed-out, mesmeric
rhythm, with some nasty synth-work and casually brilliant effects on the
drums. The vocal cut is more than a minute longer than the version which
opens the Jah Son Invasion album with such a flourish; and the mix is
different, with more prominent keys, and toned-down bass. It's previously
unreleased, like the dub.The B-side is booby-trapped with sensational
instrumental excursions on Junior Delahaye's Working Hard For The Rent Man
and Jackie Mittoo's almighty Drum Song, which conclude the same original
tape-reel as Over And Over. Rent Rebate features masterful, boppish soprano
saxophone-playing by Roland Alphonso, and restrained guitar interjections by
Barry Vincent, with a Spanish tang. The superb hand-drumming on Mount Zion is
by Ras Menelik; and it's Mittoo himself on organ (or just maybe Clive Hunt,
Wackies can't quite remember) |

and Detroit might be two very different cities on opposite sides of the
Atlantic but this album is proof that creative synergy knows no distance.
During the 35 years of making music, Dave Lee has constantly been searching
for new singers and writers to work with. A search that’s ended up with many
fantastic collaborations and releases with the likes of Thelma Houston, Taka
Boom, Dianne Charlemagne and Seal. More recently this quest led him to
Maurissa Rose and the creation of their album ‘London / Detroit’. After
hearing Maurissa's voice on a Theo Parrish record Dave reached out to her and
after a few long phone conversations and mp3 swaps they both agreed a visit
to London would be much more fun than trying to work together remotely.
Maurissa made the journey from her home in Detroit to write and record an
album with Dave at his studio in March 2022 - as they both feel that creating
music together in the same room is always better. The fruits of their labour
yielded 11 brand new songs (and 1 cover) tapping into their collective love
of Soul, Disco and R&B, with a sprinkle of Soulful House. This album is a
special one for Dave Lee as it’s the first time in his career he’s recorded
an entire album with same singer on every track. In the album’s liner notes
Dave talks of how Maurissa is a naturally creative person, full of ideas,
warm & unpretentious which is reflected in her vocal performances
throughout ‘London / Detroit’. Dave’s expertly crafted music is backed up
with a deeply passionate yet effortless delivery from the Detroiter, a marker
of someone who has honed and perfected their art. When it comes to the music
side of this LP, Dave Lee is once again proving he’s still at the top of his
game and shows no sign of relenting. Drawing from his encyclopaedic knowledge
of all things Soul/Funk/Disco, we are treated to a range of styles, BPMs and
influences from 95bpm street soul to more uptempo disco and boogie flavours.
Be it the rippling synth voyage opener of ‘You Decide’, taking the Johnnie
Taylor classic ‘What About My Love’ into a modern Boogie realm, upping the
tempo on the soulful houser ‘I Feel the Sun” or bringing the tempo back down
to the bassy acidic chug of ‘You’re Giving Me Life’. Mr Lee is truly adept at
creating a modern disco soul sound without the usage of samples |

- Meteora (FUSE06) by Noah Hocker. A leader of the Portuguese wave in techno
co-founding Hayes Collective while boasting acclaimed releases on Klockworks,
Blueprint, and Soma, Temudo grabs the reins to take club music back to its
days of audacity and risk taking. A more than promising up-and-comer turned
modern reference, Temudo defends his reputation with a release showcasing
depth in his various sonic universes and a deep understanding of his music's
history. For its seventh release, Temudo's 'Meteora' is a logical next step
for the club's direction - a sweet spot between dancefloor efficiency and
enduring aesthetic. Combining the intrigue of mental soundscapes with the
reliability of imposing rhythm, 'Meteora' finds itself collected, expressing
effect through restraint. The title track, claiming the EP's A1, is just that
- a force of interweaving sound design and powerful micro transitions. Some
believe the best techno records are able to express emotion and attitude
despite its dissonant and machinelike nature; if that's the case then Temudo
has mastered the craft. 'When I Grow Up', however, puts the focus back on the
body. What sounds like warbling tape modulation over a percussive lead makes
this record an addictively delirious ride from start to finish, fitting in
with the track before while shifting to different priorities. Proving his
versatility, 'Vrthng' at first seems reminiscent of the minimal Berlin style
with a higher pace, but quickly progresses into something intensely euphoric.
With experience and measure, an out of the box approach can really pay off,
and the added emotion in 'Vrthng' is certainly a turning point in the EP.
This mindset is clearly carried over in the project's conclusion : 'It's
Always Past'. A surprising use of harmony and storytelling, this final
chapter ends with Temudo sealing his style with confidence. The track is
mystified by its chords, ending 'Meteora' with a question mark that leaves us
in anticipation for what Temudo dares to do next |
