new Manchester imprint, 160 Street Recordings is excited to announce its
first vinyl release, Evolutions EP, by the dynamic production duo of Response
and Buda. With a reputation for carving out a distinctive uncompromising
sound, the pair return with a gritty, dark collection of tracks that channel
the deep, raw energy of early 90s Jungle and Jungle Techno. Drawing
influences from the breakbeat-driven sub-bass and atmospheric elements of
that era, the Evolutions EP fuses heavy basslines, classic breaks, and dark,
rave-inspired energy. A1. Evolutions: The EP opens with the title track,
‘Evolutions’—a driving, atmospheric tune full of breakbeat intensity and underpinned by
weighty sub bass. Kicking off with a memorable rave stab melody, the track
builds with powerful percussion and a haunting, evolving soundscape that
moves between light and dark. A2. Fintons Dub: “Break, show ‘em something,
but not too much….” ‘Fintons Dub’ brings a laid-back dubbed out groove, with
a selection of classic breaks and a deep sub-bass foundation. An atmospheric
pad and cinematic Kung Fu movie sample add depth to this cut, the breaks
building gradually with delays as the track rolls out.. B1. Fintons Dub (Double 0 Remix): No
introduction is needed for Double 0, co-founder of legendary London club
night Rupture and one of the pioneering figures of the original Hardcore
Jungle Techno sound. His remix of ‘Fintons Dub’ takes the track back to his
Doncaster warehouse roots, unleashing thunderous bass and breakbeat energy, a
twisted mentasm and techno infused stabs. A true dancefloor weapon that
embodies the true spirit of Jungle Techno. B2. Acid Vein: Rounding off the
e.p. is ‘Acid Vein’ a 303 led breakbeat bomb that infuses rolling breaks with
a pounding sub bass and haunting jazz samples. Slower in tempo than the
previous tracks and more reminiscent of the more formative years of rave,
Acid Vein will also appeal to the wider breakbeat community |

the situation, especially if the situation is a blacked out warehouse with a
strobe where only the pulse of the sound system matters. The A side:
"Tech 97" weaves undulating pads through sustained tension, shadowing
the acid riff until it breaks into a hypnotic workout where calculated
moments of release command the floor. The B1 "Manic Mix" pushes
boundaries with an urgent buildup of the 303
and metallic high hats, culminating in pure dancefloor abandon -
snares and claps cutting through the darkness. The B2 "Calm Mix"
explores deeper territory with dubbed-out vibes. The acid riff maintains its
spectral presence against the rhythm, while ethereal chords spiral outward
creating an almost nautical motion beneath the surface |

Bristolian roots: Emika delivers 4 tracks ‘Frames’ which documents her life

self-taught spirituality and meditation brought no light, and a return to
nature saved her. ‘Frames’ is about

Hot
Natured’s last single ‘Forward Motion’ was the seductive summer anthem of
2011. Since then the founding members of Hot Natured, Jamie Jones and Lee
Foss, have been joined by Ali Love and Luca C (from the duo Infinity Ink).
The quartet has been locked away in writing sessions in Los Angeles, London
and Ibiza, with an album planned for spring 2013. ‘Benediction’ is the first
track to emerge from this album but its seeds were first sewn almost 10 year
ago when Ali first thought of the main chords and concept. Today that idea
has germinated into Hot Natured’s lead single. It features vocalist Ali
Love’s trademark smooth and infectious tones, driven by melodic keys and that
trademark deep, haunting bounce. ‘Benediction’ showcases Hot Natured’s
collective song writing and top-of-their-game production skills to full,
potent effect. First heard on Jamie and Seth Troxler’s recent takeover for
Pete Tong on Radio 1 and played at Hot Creations’ night Paradise at DC10 in
Ibiza all summer, ‘Benediction’ is an irresistible and infectious crossover
hit. It demonstrates exactly why Hot Natured and their Hot Creations label
have become the go-to names for unrivalled disco-tinged, addictive house
music with ‘quality’ stamped all over it.

Kohei Matsunaga returns to Skam Records to deliver KASM04, on the 10” Vinyl

electronic music. Kohei Matsunaga, a musician and illustrator born in Osaka
in 1978, started drawing at an early age and went on to study architecture at
university. He has been actively making music since 1992, with notable

Skam Records. Kohei has collaborated with many artists, including Mika

with MTY-FEU, an incandescent new compilation. Titled «Ils s’embrasèrent,
réduits ensemble», the release stands for fusion and oneness. Bursting from
the depths of the earth, magma is devouring: melting hot techno, deep techno,
fast techno, firestorms of trance, eruptions of hard groove, break, mental,
smoldering experimental… MTY-FEU is a lava flow of boiling, vital energy,
unstoppable and full of blistering textures. During the Nuit Blanche (A1), we
surrender. We, the offer. Our fire is combusting. Our feet, stomping.
Berserk, in a fury, there’s No End (C1) to this party. In a trance, Eternal
Echoes (E2) beguiles us all, until we become one into the Molten Core (H2) of
Inferno. Ils s’embrasèrent, réduits ensemble. The incredibly talented visual
artist FEMUR crafted the artwork by creating an AI-generated meta-crackle of
fire. Diplomatie Studio handled the design while mastering was entrusted to
Sixbitdeep, except for Anetha’s edit, where mix and mastering credits go to
Le Dom. We’ve opted for bio-vinyls for this release, knowing that one day
these records will return to ashes, only to rise again, like the phoenix |

Celebrating
the 50th anniversary of the 1973 cult classic THEATRE OF BLOOD, Quartet
Records, in collaboration with MGM, presents the first-ever LP edition of the
ICONIC Michael J. Lewis' score! Directed by Douglas Hickox and starring
Vincent Price and Diana Rigg, with guest victims Ian Hendry, Harry Andrews,
Robert Morley, Michael Hordern and Jack Hawkins, among others, the film is a
macabre British black comedy about a Shakespearean actor who is
systematically humiliated by critics who consider him hammy and
old-fashioned. The actor becomes a serial killer and murders every critic by
emulating the sadistic crimes in Shakespeare's plays. Michael J. Lewis
(SPHINX, THE MADWOMAN OF CHAILLOT, THE NAKED FACE, THE MEDUSA TOUCH) composed
a delightful score, with a catchy, charming main theme that is opposed to the
brutality of the story. Contrasting strains of old-fashioned lyricism and
modern soundscapes frame a score of great stylistic diversity. Even though
THEATRE OF BLOOD was a success_and has become even more widely admired over
the last half-century_no commercial album of the full soundtrack existed
until 2010, when the score made its debut on CD by La-La Land Records. The
program has now been freshly mastered specially for vinyl and re-sequenced
for a better listening experience, as it would have been had it been released
in 1973. This limited edition of 500 units, pressed on audiophile 180 GM
blood-red-and-black splatter, has been produced, restored and mastered by
Chris Malone from the original stereo master tapes |

Swanson is a seasoned artist, renowned for her fearless creativity and

chapter for Myriam Swanson as she embarks on her journey as a solo artist

follow up to City of Evil, Avenged Sevenfold's fourth studio album, a self
titled album debuted No° 4 on the Billboard 200 Chart and No° 24 on UK OCC
chart. Featuring fan favorite songs "Afterlife", "A Little
Piece of Heaven" & "Dear God," the album would win
Kerrang! Awards Album of the Year. The albumis included on Kerrang's
"666 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" For Fans of Metallica,
Slipknot, & Bullet For My Valentine Avenged Sevenfold (abbreviated as
A7X) is an American heavy metal band from Huntington Beach, California,
formed in 1999. The band's current lineup consists of vocalist M. Shadows,
rhythm guitarist Zacky Vengeance, lead guitarist Synyster Gates, bassist
Johnny Christ, and drummer Brooks Wackerman. Avenged Sevenfold are known for
their diverse rock sound and dramatic imagery in album covers and
merchandise. The band emerged with a metalcore sound on their debut album
Sounding the Seventh Trumpet and largely continued this sound through their
second album Waking the Fallen. The band's style had evolved by their third
album and first major label release, City of Evil, into a more traditional
heavy metal style. The band continued to explore new sounds with its
self-titled release and enjoyed continued mainstream success before their
founding drummer, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, died in 2009. Despite
his death, Avenged Sevenfold continued on with the help of Dream Theater
member Mike Portnoy, and released and toured in support of their fifth album
Nightmare in 2010, which debuted atop the Billboard 200, their first number

On
his second EP for Altered Circuits, "Signal Drift", Jacopo Latini
further distills his sound. Taking a more minimalist approach, he
unreservedly treats the groove as the focal point. Still relying on his
staple talent for weaving melodies and hooks, he delivers four trippy club
tracks that show more can be done with less. Opener "Sharp"
delivers immediate proof. After starting with a sequence of eerie sci-fi
atmospherics and recondite vocoded vocals, the adding and subtracting happens
so ingeniously, the track switches to club velocity 303 squelches and
enhanced drum programming seamlessly. Similar techniques in building and
layering are deployed on "Impulse", but this time, the shifts seem
a tad more dramatic. The track revolves around an FM bass melody that's
equally effective as it is simple, and its return to this stripped theme,
surrounded by characteristic jittery hats, squashed claps, and a little more
frills, keeps the listener on his toes. A bass patch, its sustain knob turned
wide open, somewhat buried in the mix, drives "Bright Sound"
together with a heavily modulated formant mid lead. Deadpan vocals add icing,
and slightly euphoric, phased chords bring in a touch of subtle contrast.
Closer "Rave Harvey" is a rare diversion as it starts in medias res
with chords that reconfigure nineties trance and a distinct bassline
immediately going for the limelight. It also shows Latini switching up his
palette, trading restraint for vigor, with a slab of direct, unfiltered
hi-energy as a result |

ATLAS OF LOSS Do minerals dream of becoming semiconductors? Do they yearn to
carry charges, amplify, switch, and convert energy into emotions
comprehensible to humans? And what if, from the darkness of the underground,
they had been listening to us sing in caves before the emergence of the first
flute? Could they have guided us, through the course of history, to find
them, extract them, and create new sounds through sinusoidal waves, to form
valves and bend circuits? If so, minerals would transition from what
philosopher Eugene Thacker defines as the 'planet'--that virginal and
unreachable realm for humans that we study through geology, paleontology, and
environmental sciences--to the 'world,' the space we inhabit, interpret, and
synthesise in our daily lives. Sadly, we only remember the world when it
erupts violently, through climate catastrophes or when a new virus emerges.
Sometimes a tsunami collides with a nuclear plant, or viruses are cultivated
as biological weapons in high-security laboratories, provoking a deep
biological anxiety, hard to quell, which we all feel beneath our skin. There
exists a third realm, disconnected from both the world and the planet: the
'earth', an immense, dense rock floating in space alongside other planets,
situated in the cosmological dimension. Relating to the earth is so complex
that we only do so through theoretical speculations of a scientific nature or
through science fiction, interweaving until one becomes the prophecy of the
other, in an infinite, pendular dance. Beyond the darkness of space and
Lovecraft's cosmic horror, the fantasy of human extinction is the most
recurrent: to reach a collapse so devastating that we do not survive it, even
though the earth does, without us. In a world where we quantify everything
through body sensors, financial algorithms, nanometre-scale robots, and
surveillance drones--a world in which everything that can be domesticated and
controlled can also be commodified--a superior artificial intelligence would
survive the collapse of the species (some speculate it might even cause it)
and learn from our mistakes, thanks to our obsessive gathering of data. Long
after our voices fade, minerals will persist in the darkness of screens, in
the silicon of chips, and in their pure form, still unexploited underground.
Over the millennia, this intelligence might piece together fragments of our
reasoning, as if an alien civilization finally connected with one of our
spacecrafts loaded with messages cast into the void. It would sort through
endless streams of data, unable to grasp the depths of emotion behind what it
quantified, recreating simulations of our past, stripped of the nuance that
once defined us and conducting experiments in sandboxes. Some remnants of our
existence--faint echoes of forgotten beauty--would be pieced together in an
atlas of loss, buried beneath layers of numbers, decayed bots, and corroded
hard drives. What will follow? Perhaps bison will once again roam--trotting
to the strange pulse of techno, their ancient forms framed by the ruins of
our cities. Buildings will crumble, slowly dissolving under the soft touch of
ambient music, and a thousand flowers will bloom with that ancient music
created through electrical signals and computation. 7 songs for a future both

UK reggae band the Cimarons
backed many visiting Jamaican artists in the 1970s, including the Wailers and
Jimmy Cliff, and recorded as session players for British producers. A tour of
Japan with the Pioneers in 1975 led to this unprecedented collaboration with
guitarist/vocalist Toshikatsu Uchiumi of rock band the Carol for a curious
mix of reggae, rock and blues, with Uchiumi singing in Japanese on most
tracks and adding lead guitar licks in places. Produced by Sidney Crooks,
Cimarons fans need this one-off wonder to fully appreciate their innovation
and the album will also appeal to fans of mid-70s Japanese rock. A great

Grammy-nominated
artist, producer and label-head TOKiMONSTA has teamed up with long-time
collaborator Anderson .Paak and rising neo-soul singer and rapper Rae Khalil
to deliver her latest single, “On Sum” along with an accompanying music
video. The new song comes as the third release from TOKi’s upcoming studio

Azmari
is thrilled to announce the release of their fourth opus, 5-track EP 'In
Oculis'. The EP is a reflection of the band's collective desire to reinvent
themselves. With a more minimalistic approach, the four musicians have
created an eclectic, intense, and vibrant body of work, recorded during
various residencies in Belgium and abroad. The result is a fusion of genres
that range from powerful grooves to cinematic jazz, from floating melodies to
entrancing soundscapes. For this new project, Azmari teamed up with a
long-time collaborator, Guillaume Souffrice (alias Mosso Mosso), who had
already been Azmari's guitarist in the band's early days. Souffrice's
expertise as a music therapist and multi-instrumentalist, combined with his
passion for cross-cultural rhythms and melodies, adds a new depth and
dimension to the band's sound. Souffrice's extensive travels have taken him
from Iranian Kurdistan, where he studied the daf (a large frame drum used in
Sufi ceremonies), to northern India, where he immersed himself in the modal
subtleties of the shehnai (Indian oboe). His love for psychedelic guitar
tones and the classic wha-wha pedal remains at the heart of his musical
approach, creating a fusion of tradition and experimentation. The EP opens
with 'Night Plants Can Run,' a track that starts with a rhythmic loop on the
Berimbau, a Brazilian percussion instrument traditionally used in Capoeira.
The song offers a steady, groovy journey between Rio de Janeiro and Sarajevo,
with a guitar theme doubled by the saxophone, all underpinned by a deep 4/4
groove. The middle part of the track introduces a lot of percussion (an
Azmari signature move) that gives a sense of urgency and chase, inspired by
the band's experience playing the track in the studio, imagining a pursuit
through the depths of the Amazon. Next, 'Disassembling the Matrix' takes
listeners on a 9/4 march that feels both elusive and powerful. Born from a
jam session where an arpeggiator loop wouldn't stop, the band decided to
continue with it, highlighting the beauty of a spontaneous creation once
again. 'Lizzard's Dream' is a guitar-driven trip that gradually intensifies
in energy. The song surprises with a sudden groovy break - a moment that was
initially the core of the track - before returning to its soft and
introspective theme, closing out the A-side of the vinyl. The fourth track,
'Eyelights,' was born from the shores of Vevey Lake in Switzerland. It
reflects the result of a long period of mental observation and rhythmic
exploration. Three different time signatures were used to create the song's
intro, which comes together as they go along. The melody loops with a
peaceful and nostalgic vibe, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. Under the
direction of Frederik Segers, who produced the EP, 'Eyelights' takes on a
cinematic feel, with classical upright piano sounds that are a first for
Azmari. The EP closes with "17th Tiger Print," which takes us to
the banks of the Ganges. Souffrice's shehnai leads the track into a hypnotic,
hallucinatory dimension, where the interplay between his instrument and the
baritone saxophone creates a textured, mystical atmosphere. This track
encapsulates the essence of Azmari, a sound that bridges cultures and
emotions in a minimalist yet highly effective way. 'In Oculis' marks another
milestone in Azmari's musical evolution, blending the band's signature style
with new influences and experimentation. Whether you're a longtime fan or new

Claudio
PRC’s fifth album, Self Surrender, unfolds as a reflective journey of
self-acceptance, a story embracing reality in its purest and most unfiltered
form. Released via Delsin Records, this marks his first full-length album on
the label, following the EP’s Rites of Passage (2021), Challenger Deep (2022)
and Golden Scales (2024). The album explores different and more leftfield
sonic corners, while remaining true to Claudio’s cavernous, deep, and
spiritual essence. It’s a journey through different styles, with echoes of
the past and contemporary influences merging. Self Surrender begins with
ambient and dub echoes, moving through dark, minimal rhythms and deep techno.
It blends techno and house elements, exploring themes of sin and redemption
with cutting synths and tight grooves. This first half of the longplayer
closes introspectively with a reflective ambient piece. In the second part,
the sound shifts to more energetic techno. It’s driven by heavy kicks and
dreamy atmospheres, with acid-laden textures and haunting strings. To
conclude, Self Surrender closes with an ethereal track, fully embodying the
theme of surrender and acceptance. Born in Sardinia and now based in Berlin,
Claudio PRC has been a key figure in the deep techno scene since 2006. His
music is deeply rooted in a philosophical approach, drawing from Detroit
techno, electroacoustics, and his academic background in Music and New
Technologies. Over the years, he has released on labels such as Prologue
Music, Semantica Records, while also establishing his label 012 as a platform
for art and sound research |

has always been on top of the game. Since the late 60s he has been recording
music under his early Jojo L'Explosif moniker. His debut album "Jo
Tongo" was released 1976 on Fiesta/Decca and features classic tracks
like Jangolo and Piani. Now, after decades of underground influence and
global recognition, his second album Sa Discossa (1980) is re-released for
the first time. Being an electrifying fusion of African rhythms, disco,
makossa, reggae and funk it is reflecting his lifelong journey of musical
exploration and cultural storytelling and claims its place as an essential
recording in the Afro-disco movement. Jo Tongo's music is inseparable from
his life's story-a journey that spans continents, struggles, and victories.
From his early years as a leading African musician before the global rise of
Afrobeat, to his deep roots in classical training, and his time performing in
France and Germany, his sound is shaped by a rich blend of influences. Having
played in bands across Europe, from American military bases in Germany to the
jazz and soul circuits of Paris, he absorbed the pulse of multiple musical
worlds, creating a sound uniquely his own. "My music is my life. I never
saw it as a way to become a star-I am a simple man," Tongo explains.
"I came into music to say something, to tell about life, to share my
experiences with the world." His perspective on fame and artistry is
deeply rooted in his Cameroonian background. "I wasn't interested in
business. I wanted to build something with music, to create a sound that was
mine." But Jo Tongo's music has always carried a deeper message. His
work reflects his strong political stance against colonialism, social
injustice, and oppression. "I cannot stay silent while my people suffer,"
he says. "Music is a way to resist, to stand strong, and to remind
people of their dignity and their power." Throughout his career, Tongo
has used his platform to advocate for African identity and independence. His
songs, layered with messages of social consciousness, have continued to
resonate with younger generations who recognize the relevance of his words
even today. Sa Discossa is more than just a disco record. It embodies Jo
Tongo's philosophy of resistance, identity, and celebration. The title itself
is a blend of "disco" and "makossa," reflecting the
seamless fusion of African groove and the dancefloor energy that defined the
era. Tracks like Bunya, sung in his native language, carry messages of love,
gratitude, and resilience-sentiments that remain as relevant today as they
were nearly 50 years ago. As Tongo describes it, "Every day, give thanks
and praise to your Lord. Every day, show me your love. Every day, let me show
you my tender love." Tongo's musical journey also took him through the
world of reggae, inspired by his exposure to American and Caribbean artists.
"At first, I didn't like reggae-it was too slow for me," he admits.
"But then I heard Bob Marley, and I realized the power in its
simplicity. The rhythm, the message-it was all connected to something
bigger." He later found himself embracing reggae as an essential part of

a deeply personal and sonically assertive exploration of transformation and
healing. Rooted in the energies of 2025, the Year of the Snake, this
four-track EP channels the mystery and intuition of the serpent, weaving
together Virgo’s archetypal forces of the healer and the alchemist. Across
driven beats, hypnotic acid sequences, and vocal-infused textures, “Virgo
Space Acid” reflects a journey of renewal, self-ownership, and inner power.
From Berghain to The Bunker New York, GiGi FM has long been known for her
ability to channel movement into sound. With “Virgo Space Acid”, she refines
her craft even further, working with fewer elements yet pushing them to their
fullest expressive potential. She explores the full range of her voice,
shaping it into textures, atmospheric layers, and even percussion, while
separately reworking classic 909 drum machine sounds into something entirely
her own. This EP is a statement of both discipline and liberation, where
minimalism meets deep transformation. Opener “Calibration” sets the tone with
its mantra-like intention: an invitation to realign and tune into one’s own
energy. Built around a driving bassline, nostalgic yet forward-moving synths,
and GiGi’s own spoken word, “A breath holds time, calibrates space”, the
track creates a moment of clarity before the journey begins. “Mercury”
follows, embodying the trickster, the messenger, the shapeshifter. Playful
and urgent, its bouncing synth sequences move like conversations in motion,
with rising tones driving the track forward, pushing toward a restless
ascension that mirrors Mercury’s role as a bridge between realms, both
celestial and internal. The title track, “Virgo Space Acid”, is the wormhole:
the brain battle, the transformation. With a heavyweight 303 bassline,
spiraling bleeps reminiscent of birds, and powerful classic 909, it is pure
tension and release, an acid-drenched trip through motion and evolution.
Closing the record, “Floresta” is a sensual and grounding moment of
reflection. Named after the stage at Waking Life Festival where GiGi felt a
pivotal shift in her healing journey, the track mirrors the scene with dub
chord sequences, emotional rising pads, and percussive vocal elements. Like
the purple and pink drapes floating above the dance floor at sunset, Floresta
is both a farewell and a prelude, a misty horizon where one chapter closes
and another awaits. With “Virgo Space Acid”, GiGi FM continues to expand her
sonic language, deepening her connection between body, rhythm, and
transformation. More assertive, more urgent, yet deeply intuitive, this is a

Characterized by efficiently percussion tunnelling through juggled textures,
PTTRNRCRRNT's technical know-how and conceptual intentions can be masked by

constantly reinvent itself as a priority and researches between
experimentalism and futurism. He is one of the artists with the most

One

famous Australian Extreme label. Regular black vinyl edition with laminated

Extreme releases. For fans of early WARP, Muslimgauze, Future Sound Of
London, The Orb, Rapoon and alike. This 59 minute piece was conceived as part
of a total environment for the exhibition Deus Ex Machina. The project as a
whole seeks to define and articulate the emotional, cultural and aesthetic
manifestations of man’s uneasy relationship with technology. The music takes
the form of a film score complete with stylized dialogue and actions. During
the 59 minutes four basic layers repeat in various configurations.The effect
is to provide a template of narrative in which the pieces exhibited may
become protagonists, situated in hypothetical scenarios which illustrate the
contentions of Deus Ex Machina and the transmission of information.
Review:“Paul Schütze’s debut album from 1989 sets his stall out from the
start; with a cyber update on Jon Hassell’s notion of ‘Fourth World Music”.
Schütze’s music always sounds like it could be an alternative soundtrack to
‘Blade Runner’ (be aware fellow purists, I did state “alternative”), and this
album is probably the perfect candidate if in some other dimension the
Vangelis OST was no longer deemed satisfactory (such a dimension surely
cannot exist). The listener feels like they’re walking through the rain

2024] Over the past few years Eskimo Recordings have invited some of the best
crate diggers around to curate compilations that don't just reveal the hidden
contents of their record bags but something about themselves too. Now,
following in the footsteps of the likes of Bill Brewster and Psychemagik,
producer, musician, DJ, writer and more, Richard Norris, takes us on a
globetrotting psychedelic journey with the epic 42 track collection, Mr
Norris Changes Brains. For over forty years Richard has played a part in many
of the UK's most important music subcultures. Whether sharing stages with the
likes of Tracey Thorn as a pubescent punk in St. Albans, or running freakbeat
nights in Liverpool and working at the pioneering psychedelic label Bam
Caruso, co-producing the UK's first acid house inspired LP with Throbbing
Gristle's Genesis P. Orridge or riding the wave of creativity that the second
summer of love unleashed all the way to the Top of the Pop studios as The
Grid, Richard's career has continually seen him work to expand both his own
and the public's musical horizons. With Mr Norris Changes Brains it's the
most recent part of his mercurial career that he's focused on. Drawing
inspiration from his post 2006 adventures as one half of Beyond the Wizard's
Sleeve, alongside Trash's Erol Alkan, this compilation shows how a more
connected world has blown the dust off a paradoxically sometimes
straightjacketed scene. The result is a dizzyingly wide-ranging collection
that explores the further out there reaches of worldwide psychedelia and
dancefloor mayhem. "A lot of these tracks are fairly recent discoveries,
things that I've discovered from around the time I started working with Erol
and going right up to today," Richard explains. "Whether that's
from going out to play and finding new records in places like Istanbul or
just connecting with people online from all around the world. Psych can
sometimes be a sort of narrow-minded field, with everything having to sit in
its specific niche, but more and more people are open to new sounds and
that's allowed for a much broader selection." Despite their disparate
origins what does unite these tracks is that they aren't just there to zone out
to on a bean bag as projections of swirling coloured oils and psychedelic
patterns wash over you. Mr Norris may change brains but his DJ sets also move
feet, and whether it's their killer guitar riffs, oscillating synths floor
shaking drums or soulful Hammond organs these are all cuts that from festival
tents to underground clubs have proven time and time again to get people
dancing. "With a lot of these tracks there's a kind of fun element in
them," says Richard. "It's still psychedelia, but they've also got
these solid, funky grooves. They sound phenomenal on the dancefloor and as
much as these records might excite old psych heads, this compilation is also
for a new generation out there who might have never heard anything like this
before and, just like when I was 18 and heard The 13th Floor Elevators for
the first time, think 'Oh, my God, what on earth is this and more importantly
what else is out there?' |

Misty
Lane paves a path to Dark Entries to deliver some quirky Quebecois disco pop.
In 1983, producers Michel Bibeau, perhaps best known for his work on Pluton
& Humanoids’ “World Invasion,” and Fitz Roy aka Ralph Mashats teamed up
with singer Elaine Desjardins, the eponymous Misty Lane. Mashats reminisces
about bringing his Roland TR-808 and TB-303 to Michel’s Studio 21 in St.
Eustache, two units he regretted later selling for “a slice of bread.” Michel
added hooks with his Roland Jupiter 4 and various studio effects. Their
sessions produced “Energy” and “Contrôle,” two cuts of slinky synthpop with
French-Canadian flair. “Energy” pops off with proto-house vibes thanks to
snappy 808s and Desjardin’s naive-but-enthusiastic vocals, and would fit right
into a mid-80s WBMX Radio mix. “Contrôle” is a mid-tempo groover with
tropical atmospheres, sitting perfectly next to to Junior Byron’s “Dance to
the Music,” which was another Bibeau production. Energy comes in a sleeve
featuring Elaine at The Chivas Club in Montreal. Fans of Italo, Canadian
disco, and oddball wave will rejoice in these artfully produced gems |

Guillaume Labadie, better known as I Hate Models, started to play
"Toro" in his sets at the beginning of 2022, a track that was
originally released in 2011 and has been through a variety of different versions,
styles and audiences. The Mexican producer Andre VII created the original
remix and I Hate Models edited a speeded up version to fit into his playing
style that got a huge response from clubs around the globe. The track has
exploded on social networks, bringing a new buzz to this classic with its
unofficial version, going viral on Tik Tok, generating thousands and
thousands of videos and reaching Spotify's Top 50 Viral tunes organically, we
