Flaty refines his underground dance music influences across three diverse

the deepest tracks out there, it's combination of Owen's vocals paired with
the stellar production techniques of Def Mix's David Morales (and THOSE

scenes and to this day remains an evergreen staple in DJ's of all persuasions
bags. Featured here we have all the original mixes (with the exception of the
shorter radio edit) in their original forms. The record sounds as fresh as it

Honey Bane's legendary debut
single Violence Grows was originally released in 1979 under the name Fatal
Microbes on Small Wonder. Written when she was only 14, the track stands as a
raw statement of punk urgency and teenage rebellion. This reissue brings the
single back with digitally remastered audio, new artwork, a bonus track, and
its first ever coloured pressing _ a "bruised" black-and-blue
12-inch. Bane went on to record the You Can Be You 12" for Crass Records
and collaborate with the likes of Killing Joke and Jimmy Pursey of Sham 69,
before walking away from the scene in 1983 after a run of acclaimed punk and
new wave singles. This reissue marks her first vinyl release in four decades,
restoring the fire of one of music's true outsiders |

Quartet
Records, in collaboration with the Riz Ortolani estate, presents the expanded
vinyl edition of one of the titles most requested by maestro Ortolani's fans:
the bizarre 1978 mondo movie BRUTES AND SAVAGES (aka SAVANA SELVAGGIA)
Written by Jenny Craven and directed by Arthur Davis, this belongs to the
select group of mondos that became notorious not for their shocking content,
but for their lack of understanding of the genre. Surviving in two different
cuts (92 mins and 107 mins), BRUTES AND SAVAGES focuses on mostly Latin
American customs from local natives who do unspeakable things to animals. The
single most entertaining feature of BRUTES AND SAVAGES is its music by Riz
Ortolani, the "de facto" mondo master who was the key musical figure
of the genre since its conception in MONDO CANE and its Grammy-winning,
Oscar-nominated song, "More." Ortolani scored countless mondos from
AFRICA ADDIO (1966) through ADDIO ZIO TOM (1971) to, obviously, CANNIBAL
HOLOCAUST (1980), netting a few great titles along the way. The composer
always found a way to create cool tunes that managed to tie together the
insanely wide-ranging episodes that featured inconsistent quality and
tone_and when all else failed, he created singular, individually successful
cues for self-contained segments that saved as much of the film as possible.
A 1978 LP release of the music from BRUTES AND SAVAGES is quite hard to come
by. Export LPs originating from Australia and Hong Kong routinely fetch
outrageously high prices on the secondary market. This new vinyl edition
includes a crucial suspense cue that was cut for not meshing with the style
of the record. The audio was mastered by Chris Malone from the original
master tapes provided by the Ortolani estate, and the discs are pressed in
transparent green-jungle, audiophile vinyl |

release outside of Indonesia) Igor Tamerlan is a stranger in his own land.
Born in 1954 the Hague and spent most formative years in Paris, Igor suddenly
had the urge to relocate to Bali in 1986. “I want to settle in Indonesia and
marry a local girl,” he told his sister shortly before flying out. His next
journey would be as audacious as his time in the Fifth Republic. Born from a
prominent Indonesian expatriate family in Paris with ties to Indonesia’s
first prime minister Sutan Sjahrir, Igor earned a degree in architecture at
Ecole nationale supe´rieure d’architecture de Paris-La Villette. He could
have been a brilliant architect or a political scientist (he was accepted to
Sciences Po), but his passion for music distracted him from his academic
works. He was after all named after Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. During
his brief stint at Sciences Po, Igor spent most of times hanging out at
recording studios and rub shoulders with the likes of singer-songwriter
Jean-Jacques Goldman and Michel Polnaref. He had a brief encounter with The
Rolling Stones at the Cha^teau de Thoiry studio in the early 1970s. But
Igor’s musical education and his occidental eyes appeared to be ill-suited
for Indonesia. His first record, titled Langkah Pertama (First Step) on the
mainstream label Musica was met with a shrug and was a commercial dud. An
experimental record blending the influence of Spanish motifs, Francophile
production and a whiff of hip hop and ska was seen by critics as being too
alien. His sarcasm-laden lyrics and his biting critique of excessive
materialism among the upper tier of Indonesia’s nouveau riche in the album
was met with confusion from the audience. He was just too far ahead of his
time. He left the label Musica – or may had been dropped – soon after Langkah
Pertama and decided to go independent. He then relocated to Bali and set up a
state-of-the-art recording studio in Sanur, across the street from Southeast
Asia’s first boutique hotel where luminaries like Mick Jagger, David Bowie,
Sting, Yoko Ono and Ringo Starr stayed for their holiday. From the studio,
Igor recording everything from the sounds waterfalls, geckos, minibuses to
motorized rickshaw and mix them with hip hop, jazz, electronica, dub and
Balinese gamelan. A visionary, Igor was the first musician to use MIDI, which
started to be available globally in the early 1980s. On paper, songs like
“Bali Vanilli” should not work, a mish mash of disparate elements mentioned
above, sung in three languages, Balinese, English and Bahasa Indonesia while
tackling the subject of overtourism. The song was also the first to introduce
rap to an unsuspecting audience. But for some strange reason “Bali Vanilli”
became a sensation and overnight Igor became household name. And in 1987,
long before overtourism was an issue, Igor broached the subject to a national
audience in Indonesia on the possible destruction of nature and culture from
tourism. Ever an iconoclast, Igor decided to step out of the limelight
following the success of “Bali Vanilli” and in early 1990s he relocated to
Indonesia’s cultural capital, Yogyakarta. Here, he worked on some more
experimental music while juggling as music video director. He passed away in
2018 at the age of 64. The 10 songs in this compilation, Bali Vanilli:
Experimental Pop from Paradise Island (1987-1991), are some of Igor’s best
works, music that would have gone into obscurity had it not been for the
diligent work of film director Alfred Pasifico Ginting, who managed to track
down some of the master tapes while researching on a documentary on the
musician. These recordings have never before been released outside of
Indonesia. Igor would have been proud with this reissue project |

artist Youniss announces the release of his ambitious new album, 'Good
Effort!'. Inspired by the concept of the city as a living, complex entity - a
feeling Youniss describes as the difference between "living in a city
[and] just being in that city" - Good Effort! is an open-ended narrative
drawn from the artist's own experiences, including growing up on the
outskirts of Antwerp. Like a vibrant city itself, the album is a culmination
of organic interactions, layered with diverse perspectives from a collective
of artists. Good Effort! features a dynamic cast of collaborators, including
international heavyweights like Pink Siifu, Petite Noir, and Quelle Chris,
alongside celebrated names from the Belgian underground such as Dienne and Porcelain
id. While retaining his critical edge - especially on themes like
gentrification, an acute problem in his home city - Youniss explores the full
range of his voice across the album's tracks, resulting in a warmer, more
texturally diverse sound. Tracks like “Notice,” “Glass Ceilings,” and “The
Sun Is Falling” expand his textural use of distortion, while others, such as
“At the Still Point of the World” and “Why Don’t You?”, float at a more
tranquil register. The record's energy peaks on “TakeThat” where Pink Siifu
and Youniss trade frenetic bars atop jazzy drum freakouts. Despite the
cynicism forged by witnessing his environment change - like the flattening of
the beloved venue Onder Stroom for a parking space - Youniss offers a crucial
message of perseverance. The album's title, Good Effort!, is a defiant

is pleased to announce an extensive compilation series combing through the
catalogue of landmark Dutch techno label Djax-Up-Beats. The series, curated
by Rush Hour co-founder Christiaan Macdonald, launches with a look at the
label's legacy in the development of acid music through the 90s. In total,
this first entry in the Djax-Up-Beats 1990-2005 series comprises 20 tracks,
presented as a main triple-vinyl album plus two additional 12" EPs. The
compilation also features all-new illustrations from Alan Oldham, the
Detroit-rooted visual artist who gave Djax-Up-Beats a distinctive visual
identity from very early on, and design by Lost Communication. Each volume of
the series also features liner notes from music journalist Oli Warwick.
Crucially, every track featured on the series has been carefully mastered by
Johanz Westerman, bringing the best out of tracks that often had very little
post-production treatment before they were originally pressed to wax. Volume
1 - The Acid Trip focuses on an area the label is best known for - acid house
and techno. After the pioneering breakthroughs Chicago-based producers made
with the Roland TB-303 in the late 1980s, acid music creation was starting to
become more widespread when Djax-Up started in late 1990. The rebellious,
rave-ready sound was an instant draw for label founder Miss Djax, and so her
label ended up reflecting the development of acid as it spread from the
Chicago roots across the world. Volume 1 - The Acid Trip looks at the diverse
approaches to acid taken by artists on Djax-Up. Tracks on the compilation
include an early outing from Ludovic 'St Germain' Navarre and Bjorn Torske's
Ismistik alias, as well as Dutch pioneers such as Edge Of Motion, Spasms,
Random XS and Acid Junkies, and Chicago heavyweights Mike Dearborn and Gene
Hunt. With five more, equally extensive, volumes to come in this series,
Djax-Up-Beats 1990-2005 is a thorough exploration of a true totem of techno
culture - a renegade label that operated on its own terms and carried
surprises and slammers in equal measure |

legend K. Alexi returns to Dark Entries with K.A. Posse’s Strikes Again, an
EP of previously unreleased acid and house mayhem. K’Alexi Shelby’s
illustrious career has included releases on legendary labels such as Trax, DJ
International, and Transmat, as well as collaborations with high-profile
artists like Marshall Jefferson and Pet Shop Boys. But his musical journey
began at the young age of 12, when he befriended Ron Hardy and Frankie
Knuckles while frequenting the Music Box and Warehouse. In high school, he
began to write songs and hone his poetic craft. “I recognized I had a gift to
say what I was thinking. I would study Prince and Marvin Gaye, figure out
what they meant and put my spin on it. The power of the word. I was writing
love notes for all my boys in high school and making a killing. I would know
what to say and what they should do.” Dark Entries previously reissued
Shelby’s debut record, Essence of a Dream, which was recorded under the name
Risque III in 1987. Strikes Again brings us six tracks recorded in Chicago
between 1988 and 1990, which come courtesy of Mike Dunn’s personal archive.
This record showcases the rawer, more immediate side of Shelby’s sound, with
tracks full of overdriven 808’s, careening sirens, and dangerously funky
breakbeats. “Imported Taste” brings Shelby’s signature deep pads to the front
of wild congo-laced percussion. “Suckas Be Ready” is a slamming hip-house cut
featuring vocals from MCD-TA, while disco-samples duel with crunchy 909s on
the jacking “Muzic Box.” Strikes Back showcases the real underground sound of
Chicago, where sonic abstraction meets full-body kinetics. The record comes

Icelandic label Kitchen Motors, this striking collaboration between Barry
Adamson, Pan Sonic, and the Hljomeyki choir was produced by Adamson, Jóhann
Jóhannsson, and Pan Sonic. The original piece layers an Icelandic choir's
performance of Adamson's treated, microtonal score with gradually
intensifying electronics - from subtle breaths to resonant bass surges -
before collapsing back into a tense, ominous hum. On the second side, The
Hafler Trio delivers an extended reworking, weaving vast drones into a
shifting soundscape that recalls the eerie grandeur of Kubrick's `2001: A
Space Odyssey', while modern processing and digital textures anchor it firmly

Chicago House legend Gene Hunt
with a solid 4 tracker on Hotmix! Gene Hunts first release was on the
infamous TRAX imprint and he swiftly followed it up with a string of tracks
that were personified by a strong influence from Detroit. Deep strings mixed with
intricate drum patterns were his trademark and his Melodies EP for Nepenta
was one of the labels first hits. A Chicago house music pioneer, and World
Class deejay, Gene has collaborated with a range of critically-acclaimed
artists and producers, including Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch, Carl Cox, Paul

Following
a triumphant first release, Archivio Records returns with another slab of
golden era UK Techno House from a true master of the sound: Mark Ambrose.
This versatile three track EP made up of 2 previously unheard and unreleased
lost DAT productions, paired with a monstrous modern creation, from a man
known for his uniquely trippy and boundary pushing take on the genre,
presents the listener with a smorgasbord of peak time Tech House, hypnotic
Techno and emotive Acid House. The A side Mountain Storm is nothing short of
an epic, instantly recognizable future classic! Punchy, percussion laden
drums set the tone upfront, before a titanic, rumbling bassline blows the
doors clean off! Disorienting vocals drift in and out before an eerily
familiar string arrives by special delivery directly from the State of 808,
building the tension required to set the stage for the main event: a
haunting, poignant and highly relevant monologue for the times we find
ourselves in today, delivered by a renowned, yet uncredited Jamaican poet. B1
Get On Down takes the listener to the middle of the dancefloor, mid-set at a
Techno-leaning after hours. Think Christian AB in a mischievous mood…
Obscure, industrial, fizzing drums start the show, followed by a stomping yet
playful bass line, hip hop vocals urging you to get busy on the floor swirl
around you, before a piercing arpeggio sends the listener to the cosmos, as
the track peaks. B2 Deep Sea couldn’t have a more appropriate name if it
tried. A chugging, melancholy, submarine journey to the bottom of the
Atlantic, presented at a lower BPM, making it equally perfect for the very
beginning or very end of a set. The Brooklyn-based record store proves their
record label is no one hit wonder with this outstanding release from the
Crayon Records head honcho. Unmissable |

Mastery,
London’s pioneering sound studio, has spent its first two years creating live
experiences and installations exploring sound as a gateway to altered states.
Now, with co-founders LWE, Mastery enters recorded music with Quantum Sound,
a first-of-its-kind project combining sound meditation, breathwork,
neuroscience and ambient electronic composition. Announced in December in
collaboration with Houndstooth, the album builds on Mastery’s ongoing
exploration of sound as both meditation and live electronic music, first
introduced through immersive performances by Cherub Sanson, Tim Wheater and
Daniel Avery. Released on 12th February, Quantum Sound positions sound as a
psychedelic catalyst, designed for eyes-closed listening. The multi-artist
album spans ambient and transcendental spaces, featuring Jon Hopkins, Hannah
Holland, Wata Igarashi, Manami, Jennifer Loveless, Silent Shadow and
Alessandro Cortini. It also includes a continuous 60-minute mix by Hannah
Holland, alongside a 15-minute sound meditation by Cherub Sanson and Tim
Wheater with electronic composer Rommek. Following Djrum’s Come Find Me,
Ruthlss'’ Dark Angel is out today. Ruthlss is a live electronic artist,
composer and producer building a singular musical universe where club
culture, classical virtuosity and emotional storytelling collide. At the
centre of the project is a fully authored live show - written, produced and
performed entirely by Ruth - that treats electronic music with the emotional
and structural depth of film scores and symphonic works, while retaining the
physical impact and communal release of the dancefloor |

Debuting
on Token with his 'Blind Witness' EP, Pierce serves high-intensity cuts
produced with finesse and flare. An architect of wide dimension, the producer
works meticulously not only on the bite of his elements but the textures that
glue everything together. Diving into immersion, Pierce executes four
surgically precise tracks that burst at the seams and onto the dancefloor.
Beginning with ambient work, a haunting kick/bass combination follows shortly
with metallic motion in the stereo field. Patient in its structure, the title
track 'Blind Witness' takes its time to develop into a full capacity thriller
by its midpoint. It's a dense product, but nothing oversteps its boundaries -
a tip of the hat to question/answer techno that characterizes the most
efficient records in the genre. Continuing in the spirit of demonic low-end,
'There is No Self' takes its turn. With a hand on the resonance, the bassline
cuts through an eye twitchingly saturated rumble to later add a layer of
bright plucks, filling up the spectrum to insure a firm grip on the
dancefloor. Classic in construction yet cutting edge in technique, Pierce
imposes the weight of the A side through the constant evolution of stark
elements. 'Vulnus' follows to appropriately push depth into the EP,
subtracting channels for a more intimate experience that remains anything but
light. Shaking the lead throughout the track, the roundness of his bass meets
perfectly with the punch of his percussion, swaying the hats in pitch to add
a touch of psychosis. 'Secret Patterns' ends the EP on a slightly more
vintage note. Increasingly playful on the drum machine, the lead and pad take
a good amount of space occupying the mid range. Bubbly textures rise from the
depths to pop at the surface in the second half and although Pierce's sound
design on the project is usually very sharp, his dosage of rounder sounds
like these make his tracks sound very complete and complimentary. This
balance of design to compliment each element is a tough feat, but Pierce funnels
his expertise into very precise intention, making 'Blind Witness' a force to
be reckoned with already so early in the year |

As the label turns 35 years,
Tresor Records’ ongoing reissue series comes round to Scan 7’s 1999 album,
Resurfaced. A true exemplar in the canon of Detroit techno, the LP is a
further reminder of Scan 7’s confidence to patiently let the music unfold,
never needing to overplay their hand. This is demonstrated from the first
second as Random Soul opens with a slow downbeat and soft, almost
imperceptible synths before quickly settling into a perfect groove whose
power is present without the need for a hard edge. This strategy is utilised
throughout the album in tracks like Black Wall and Unit , while Invisible
Invasion and Twisted Groov add in some intensity for deeper moments in the
club. Remastered by Mike Grinser from the original DATs, the double vinyl
features the original eight tracks from the album |
