mighty International Chrome returns in 2023 with a stacked 12" that sets
a blueprint for what to expect from the label over the coming months as it
continues to discover the possibilities of where Electro and other club
styles can go. German producer/rapper/DJ, Sombi, steps up with her first
vinyl release backed with remixes by legendary producers from three
generations of club music: Yazzus, Jensen Interceptor, and dBridge, all of
which view the original through different lenses. In a rap with lyrics in her
native tongue, the original mix sees Sombi extolling the virtues of
discovering and accepting yourself, and the inner peace that comes from it.
The first remix comes from International Chrome's own Jensen Interceptor who
hits us with an aquatic electro funk rewind echoing the Detroit bass pioneers
whilst still sounding from a future oasis UK legend, dBridge, follows this up
with his "Surging Mix", discovering the hidden link between Drum
& Bass and Detroit Electro and showing that even after 30 years he is
still determined to take music to uncharted territory, never resting on his

wildest and most primitive garage-combo LOS INFIERNO make some noise again;

by its name already that this production is one that renders garagepunk in
its untreated, natural form, as their songs disguise themselves as "lost
tapes". The crazy Mexicans deliver raw studio recordings as well as one
live recording and thereby prove the authenticity of their sound. The LP
includes coverversions of various classics such as ,Love Potion No 9"
(,Brebaje De Amor No 9"), ,Im Not Your Steppin Stone" (,Tu Tonto No
Soy") or a Mexican hit by LOS CHIJUAS (,Estan Cambiando Los Colores De
La Vida") - all of which provided with wild fuzzguitars, rough vocals
and a primitive energy, as we are used to by these lads. Also their own
compositions like "Soy El Rock And Roll" or "Vas A
Llorar" are catchy and instantly cause a manic partymood; musically very
close to garagepunk-colleagues like WAU Y LOS ARRRGHS!!! or WILD EVEL &
THE TRASHBONES and THE INCREDIBLE STAGGERS, these guys not only get the

marks Rhythm Buro's 13th release, arriving in the form of a Various Artists
compilation titled 'All Things Broken'. Much like its predecessor 'There Will
Be Light' - the label's ambient compilation - this project was built around a
single unifying idea: bringing together a diverse set of tracks centred on
deep breakbeat sounds, for lack of a better term. With that vision in mind,
curator Igor Glushko reached out to a dozen like-minded artists - Ukrainian
and international, long-time collaborators and fresh faces alike. A year and
a half later, 'All Things Broken' is finally here. Contributing artists (in
alphabetical order): Alex Albrecht, Forest On Stasys, Haze, Hidden Element,
HVL, Ina Kacz, Na Nich, Orion, Radiant Futur, SI Process, The Sailing
Oysterman (aka Shjva and Ilya Semashkevich), Volodymyr Gnatenko. The
compilation comes as a 2xLP and includes an insert poster featuring 'Flame

is an upcoming hardgroove album by Slovenian DJ and producer UMEK and his
hardgroove alter-ego Polyvinyl, released on his own imprint 1605
GROOVESECTOR. The album features a blend of groove-infused tracks, including
originals like Isometric, Unlockable Formations, Mechanically Intensive, and
Da Flute. UMEK, born Uros Umek in Ljubljana, Slovenia, is a techno pioneer
who kickstarted Slovenia's electronic music scene with illegal raves in the
early '90s. With over three decades of influence, he's released on labels
like Drumcode, Filth on Acid and Tronic. As the founder of 1605, UMEK has
shaped the genre with hits like "Lanicor" and "Gatex,"
consistently topping Beatport charts. His relentless production and 100+
annual gigs-from Berlin's underground clubs to festivals like EDC, Ultra and
Creamfields-cement his status as a global techno ambassador. Founded by UMEK
in 2007, 1605 Music Therapy boasts over 300 releases, featuring artists like
Sam Wolfe, Maddix, and Space 92. The hardgroove sublabel 1605 GROOVESECTOR
was founded in 2024 to give home to UMEK's groovier creations and his

Phara
returns with a second project under his In Glass alias. In 'Scratching the
Surface', we're light years away from the heavier, more instructive dance
records that have become synonymous with Phara's style. In this EP, the
Belgian artist reaffirms his celestial, delicate sound in four tracks that
delve further deeper into the emotional soundscape proposed in the first EP.
'Sally' begins the project with the most dance floor oriented of the four
tracks, proposing an intoxicating blend of styles that bloom throughout its
six minutes. Soft pads and bright keys twinkle along a cradling rhythm as In
Glass delivers a truly musical piece that sifts through memories. Percussion
is then taken out of the equation as 'All Things (424 Version)' comes and
lands softly on the center stage. Lush, ambient waves come lapping at the
shore of 'Scratching the Surface', describing nothing but space and serenity
- a breath from everything. The dreamy tone of 'All Things' oscillates along
reassuringly into the B side, keeping the tempo low and the sound design
organic. Here, we step into In Glass's world of dub techno and adjacent
sounds that defined his first record last year. 'Plateau' rises slowly from
the wax with a round low end and suspended chords that hover high above.
Opening stabs over a harmonic bassline make a head massage of a track that
sways along. The raw emotion behind In Glass's music is inviting, flashing by
as ethereal synths open and close to install a personal, meditative
experience of electronic music. The percussion remains discrete, allowing the
harmonic information to wash over the listener into the last track of the EP.
He concludes with 'My Idle Hands', pressing further into the dub techno sound
that echoes through a cathedral of memories. Blurry shapes pass by over a
more determined rhythm section, confirming the intimate nature of In Glass's
music. The music wanders along, its head in the clouds but with a full heart,
telling stories of being lost and finding home |

Border
One pushes his sound to new extremities with this latest EP on Token
'Spectral Tension'. Known for his driving, melodically abstract productions
under eye twitching pressure, the Belgian artist takes his celestial
signature and puts it to the test. These four tracks embody his sound:
dancefloor experiments from a modular laboratory. The titletrack matches its
name with an obscure soundscape; the steadily paced rhythm is veiled by
shimmering synth work from far out. Border One has always created depth in
his music, the sonic environment is consistently, precisely described and
'Spectral Tension' kicks off the EP as a clear example of this technique.
Explorative yet determined, Border One rolls through the track dramatically
with focused percussion switches. 'Lens Flare' follows in suit, taunting the
listener with a devious synth sequence. Claps thunder through the record like
a strobe, flattening the dimension before opening for the rise. The B side
presents 'Dilated Horizon', a slow burn with chemical sound design. Viscous
synth work bubbles through a drone to create a singularly hypnotic effect and
the tension remains brutally stagnant throughout the song's entirety. The EP
closes with 'Photon Decay', returning to dissonant keys and lurking pads far
out in the stereo field. Scientific as always, Border One points a laser
through this conclusion to add even more edge to an already anxious record.
Skipping keys come and scratch the high end of 'Photon Decay', providing
further mystery to the EP as a whole. Exceptional in his sound, Border One
adds 'Spectral Tension' as his seventh release to the Token catalog |

The
American cable-television industry exploded in the 1980s, pushing broadcasts
of diverse programming and emissions of low-laying cultures into homes.
Community stations piggybacked on the digital developments of the time,
extending their existence through telephony and broadcast affiliates. For
those growing up in this time, in locations such as New York City, the
localized communications beamed into their homes exposed them to an
impressionable array of disparate sounds and visions. Move into the 1990s and
New York was filled to the brim of emergent cultures drawing from this
ebullition of communication. From Rammellzee’s shapeshifting to the late Judy
Russell and Frank and Karen Mendez’s Nu Groove imprint fusing reggae, poetry
and house, nascent ideas emanated from the city walls, from within stores
such as Sonic Groove store and on VHS releases such as Stakker’s The Evil
Acid Baron Show, a legendary technicolor psychedelic trip along the wildest
frontiers of acid house. As scenes expanded and identities developed, such
individuals weather the events of the visceral now, expressing themselves
right into an unpredictable future. Function’s long career has seen him
uncover a vast range of sonic identities, a mainstay through house, techno
and industrial with collaborations with the likes of Regis, Damon Wild
alongside his highly influential Infrastructure imprint. With influences
deeply tied to pop art, rave and gay scenes, and early memories of
block-parties emitting Kraftwerk and Strafe, he found himself seeking out the
undercover illegal nights of the 90s on a quest of sexual unearthing, mixing
the ever-yearning escapology mission of disco with the influential DJ sets of
Jeff Mills. For his new album Existenz, he marks a clear step away from the
corporeal techno of his recent releases. Pivoting around themes of religion,
sexuality, trauma and healing, it is a work expansive and celebratory, a
clear liberation from a deeply internalized past. Formed from a collection of
recordings made in a period from late 2016 to mid 2019, Existenz takes the
form of a creative outburst in reaction to a number of traumas - recent,
childhood and throughout Function’s life. Life partner Stefanie Parnow
assisted the production process in its entirety, providing inspiration,
spiritual healing and featuring vocal contributions. Cosmic synths soar and
swoop in ‘Pleasure Discipline’ through towering stacks of rhythm that stutter
and creak to a halt before rebooting, a firm robotic response to human
intervention. ‘Zahlensender’ reflects a spatial tetris of urban life, as
digitalization set within an XYZ matrix confronts the sprawling city.
Constant arpeggiated meditations echo synaptic transmissions, effecting a
dissolution of boundaries. ’The Approach’ recalls the unification of the
self, a state of delirium non-subjective and smooth, as all connections and
functions give way to simple intensities of feeling, crossing the threshold
into spirituality. ’Golden Dawn’, featuring Stefanie Parnow, marks a further
elevation of dubbed-out euphoria, as once more positive rays emerge. His ode
to the effortless short-trip urban navigation 'Kurzstrecke' finds Function in
motion, upfront and bold, snapshots of conversation and flickers of light.
'Ertrinken' finds metallic bass jabs swamping snipped synthetic voices, with
hidden stores of emotion set as a nod to the history of vocoders as a tool
for encrypted military communication. House icon Robert Owens features on
'Growth Cycle' and 'Be', entrenching a celebratory atmosphere over Function's
clubwise leanings. Closing track 'Downtown 161' reflects the unmistakeable
filtered and squashed interjections of television, and sampled dance vocals -
a sound for the curious, dreamers and dancers |

Harry
Romero and Austin Ato return to Rekids alongside the debuting Brothers

This is the 12'' already
immortalized by Gilles Peterson! Dub Souljah, with its classic Roots
Reggae/Dub-styled horns and brilliant lead and backing vocals, comes in two
versions when Ekowmania meets DJ Sotofett. The first version, in 1970s
tradition, is a rocking dancefloor Disco Dub with extended and highlighted
percussion parts. Then there's the Ultra Dub ? a severely deep and reduced
dub where horns and vocals surface only intermittently through constant
echoed kicks, minimal hi-hats, and a two-tone bassline. The title track is
from Ekowmania's Dr. Afrodub album, produced by Jimi Tenor, but this 12''
also includes two non-album cuts: the psychedelic Afro twist of Afrolistic
Rock & Roll, and the cosmic Latin-styled Kuusikasi Funk, featuring beautiful

Who,
or, what, exactly is a Matured Sinner? In this case it's the result of a
meeting of both minds and bodies between Swedish producer Johan Blende,
freshly relocated to Athens, and fellow Eskimo artist and native Athenian
NTEIBINT. Between the decidedly weak minds of succumbing to night time
activities and day time regret an idea was born to create the best
Greco-Norse creation since ABBA stole a bouzouki and used it shamefully for
the best part of Mamma Mia (OST ?). "I took one of my half-baked beats
to George (aka NTEIBINT) to see what he could add to it and voilà - Mist 9000
was born!" explained Johan. Now complete with pulsating analogue
arpeggios, a throbbing bass line and increasinglydistressed synths all
writhing together in composed ecstasy that dance floors are made for, the
track that emerged from George's studio left them hungry for more. Returning
to the studio, it isn't long before the song that would give this new project
its name emerged. Created with the help of a friend Olga on backing vocals
and an unnamed, equally sinning, young lad, Matured Sinner paired hypnotic
disco beats, sinuous synths, squawking sine waves and almost queasily
blissful sighs with a cautionary tale of drugs, flying saucer cults and a
spiral deeper and deeper into sin and moral ruin. Was it enough? It was. But
then the third one came around, mainly by sheer want to continue, lingering
like the third child of a marriage running out of ideas. Shall we keep going?
"Of course we shall, this is our gift to the world!" Like a modern
day cult, Bright Bum was conceived in a non-sexual context from leftover
sounds after a nightof confusing creations and not necessarily tender
compliments in an equal manner, chugging synths squelching their way over a
mesmerising guitar loop as bright stabs cut through the humid funk of the
track's insistent rhythm which, like all good nights out, increasingly fray
at the edges as it rolls towards oblivion. Nobody requested it but like the
nature of humanity itself, it must keep going |

gr black Vinyl + insert) Gradual Isolation started in the early 90s as the
musical project of 2 friends, Luc Van Den Bosch and Filip Van Breda, both
living in Turnhout, Belgium. They were inspired by EBM and new wave from the
80s and 90s and saw bands such as the Canadian Psyche as their great
examples. With just a few synthesizers, a drum machine and a homemade
microphone, they made music that could be described as emotional, and
somewhat naive bedroom new wave. If the term emo-wave doesn't exist yet, it
should be invented to describe Gradual Isolation's music. Over the years,
many tapes have been filled with their improvisations and about 20 to 30
songs have been more or less completed. They never officially released their
music, only a handful of handmade cassette tapes were distributed to friends.
They did not go further than a single performance in the local new wave bar
‘The Cave’ in Turnhout in 1991, but the duo stayed together and continues to
make music to this day. ‘The Sky Converts’ and ‘Agony By Men’ appeared on
Underground Wave Volume 7, and now, for the first time, a full-length LP
‘Remaining Faces’ has been released on Walhalla Records! |
